Lose And Loose Are Two Completely Different Words

Another one I've run across on here and another site I visit is people saying they are "6 (or whatever) days post off." What they obviously mean is post op. I'm in the medical field and this drives me nuts! lol

Lose And Loose Are Two Completely Different Words

    Chocalate

I eat special K protein bars or south beach protein bars. They taste just like a candy bar to me and still give about 12 grams of protein.

    Could Someone Explain?

I actually do eat whatever my family is eating just way, way less and I have lost weight nicely. I am 15 lbs away from my goal and the loss has slowed down so I am adding in exercise to speed the process up. My surgeon told me that the sleeve does not stretch because the stretchy part is gone now. I have a friend that had her surgery 4 yrs ago that eats just like I do who still has the same restriction that she had at about 6 mo and has kept her weight off no problems. Every person is very different, I do get hungry and eat every 2-3 hours.
  5. I've always been very open about my surgery. I have a friend who had it done almost 4 yrs ago and thats how i found out about it and I am so thankful that she shared. I have one cousin who had the surgery in jan and a best friend that is having it done in april and both said it was because they saw my results. I love the new life so much and am so thankful for it that I just want to tell everyone.
  6. I agree ereneeh, everyone is different. I am at 165 and wear a size 9/10. I don't even know what a 2 looks like and in my younger days at 135 I only wore a 6/8. I'm 5'7" so i guess body type and height makes a big difference. I think different brands are sized different too. I would like to drop another 15 or 20 lbs but don't really care if I do or not, I feel great and am told every day that I look good. I am just so much happier than where I started.

    Diet Coke

I don't really understand why people say diet coke contributes to cravings and hunger but don't say that about crystal light and other artificially sweetened drinks. They all have pretty much the same sweeteners in them. I drink sugarfree Hawaiian punch like its going out of style because I hate plain water, always have and I drank diet coke before surgery like crazy and I never noticed either one making me want to eat more sweets. I don't do carbonated drinks now because I don't like how they feel in my tummy but I wouldn't be afraid of them if I wanted one.

    Chinese Take-Out...oh, Yeah!

My personal opinion is that the amount we can eat is so small I never worry about how much sugar is cooked in something, but that's just me. I don't count carbs at all.

    Salad

I was cleared for anything at 6 weeks, but some things I tried didn't set well at first. Salad was one of those things. I'm 8 months now and find I can eat it ok esp. spring mix or baby spinach, iceburg lettuce still doesn't feel good but doesn't make me ill or anything.

    Understanding The Procedure

The staple line in my stomach is stapled and then oversewn. The staples are, I think titanian, at any rate you can have an MRI with them. My outside incisions were taped with sugical tape, no staples or stiches there. Hope this helps
  11. I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday and she had the sleeve done 4 years ago and she was saying that her restriction was the same as it had been at about 8 months to a year, but she can eat lots more slider foods if she wants to.
  12. My doctor said he took all of the stretchy part out and that it will not stretch. After about 3 months all of the swelling has gone down so maybe thats why it seem larger.

    Hair Dye And Hair Loss

I agree that hormones can contribute to it too, but my anesthestiology and hairdresser both told me the anesthesia will do it by itself. Whichever I'm just glad mine has stopped. lol

    Hair Dye And Hair Loss

I colored my hair twice during the falling out time and it didnt hurt anything. Between the 3 and 6 month period I lost a lot of hair but at about 6 1/2 to 7 months the loss stopped. I've had surgeries before and knew to expect this, the anesthesia is what causes it. Hope this helps. Good luck
  15. I haven't had anyone say this to my face, but if they did I think I would just say "So what, I also drive my car instead of walk everywhere." This has been easier for me than dieting and knowing that I would fail in the end ever was.

    I Was Sooo Bad Yesterday!

It looks llike your not even a month out yet and I would be really worried about injuring your fresh staple line with all of that type of food. Your stomach hasn't had time to heal yet and you could cause a leak eating the wrong foods. Be careful that is the last thing you want to happen.
  17. I tried these right after surgery and I couldn't tolerate them because I had to just sip and they tasted disgusting to me then. I might have to try them again now that I can drink normally.
  18. LOL. I was just thinking last night that watching my husband and boys eat is disgusting sometimes now, and they are not even close to being overweight, but the volume of food that they can eat! What is really gross is that I use to match them bite for bite. Sorry I didn't mean to hijack your post it just made me think of that.

    Considering A Real Diet

I have to say I agree with crosswind on this one. I started many years ago with only about 10 lbs that I wanted to lose and thus began the yo-yo diet mentality that finally got me up to 239 lbs. I chose to have this surgery so I could live like a normal person, NOT be on a diet for the rest of my life. I have lost 74 lbs so far doing absolutely nothing but eating when I'm hungry and stopping when I'm full, just like everyone of a normal weight does. If I begin saying to myself that I can't have this or that then all I want is what I can't have (I hope that made sense, it did in my head. lol). Anyway I do try to eat protein first but that doesn't always happen and I don't feel that desperate feeling of wanting to eat a whole bag of chips or candy but then shame when I do cause now I just eat a piece of candy or a serving of chips and I'm done. Yes I want to lose another 15 or so pounds but if it comes off slow thats ok too.
  20. I have done the same thing. It took forever to get out of the 200's, then the same thing with the 190's, and then with the 180's, etc and now I'm the same way with the 160's bouncing from 165 to 167 for the last 2 months. I don't know what it is but it certainly is frustrating. I guess I'm gonna have to break down and do some exercise. lol

    I Miss Gum!

Thats the only thing my dr said to never do again. He said if you swallow it that it could cause a blockage.
  22. I too have told everyone that I know and now anyone that asks how I lost the weight. My reason for doing this is because I am so thankful that someone shared their story with me and I hope to do the same. And so far after seeing my results my first cousin has had the surgery and one of my best friends is in the process. I'm not a person that really needs to be approved of by others so whatever people think of my decision is their business, it doesn't bother me at all if they disapprove. Even the ones that think it is the easy way out, well yay me, I found the easy way. LOL

    No Excuses

That is so true! I was at zumba with a friend that I went to high school with and we were both skinny then and she asked me what weight I wanted to get to and I said 150, so she says to me " I will never weight 150 again because I have too much muscle." what!?!? does she really believe that she has 150 lbs of muscle and only 35 lbs of everything else. I just said i guess that would make it tough, LOL what can you do?
  24. I'm 7 mo out and I can drink almost exactly like before surgery.

    Exercise Poll

Until last week I haven't done any exercise. I started zumba twice a week last week.
