    Nexium Mups?

I also was putting them in a shot glass or small medicine cup with water. They dissolve in a minute or 2. Now I am almost 3 months out so I started swallowing them whole and have not had any trouble with them.

    2 weeks post op questions

I am out 10 weeks now. I too have not had any complications and I can tolerate pretty much anything. For me because I was a band to sleeve revision I had to stay on Clear liquids 15 days, full liquids 15 days, then pureeds for 15 days. I followed those instructions to the T. That is important to follow especially while your stomach is healing and to protect your staple line. As times passes you can tolerate more food than in the beginning but you will get to a point where you feel very uncomfortable if you eat too much. You won't want to feel like this every time you eat which should teach you to learn when to stop. Now, even though you are eating less, you also should make smart choices. My doctor told me that 50% of this is the surgery working for me but the other 50% I have to do on my own. I can fill up my small stomach with a milkshake that has 1200 calories or I can stick with my Protein like a small piece of chicken and some steamed veggies. I will definitely have a higer success rate if I make better choices with food. If you are still on the liquid/mushy phases you may get down quite a bit without that super full feeling because the liquids go down very easy. When you get to the solid foods, you will notice the restriction much quicker. Important thing is to make sure you are taking your Nexium or Priolsec to avoid the acids from making you feel hungry. Try to stay away from the carbs, they make you feel sluggish and tired and make you hungry faster. High protein keeps you fuller longer and keeps you up and you feel better all around. I really thought this was a crock of crap but now that I haven't had coffee or a soda in 3 months I see the difference it has made. I used to depend on the caffeine to make it through the day and now I feel even more alert, awake, and energetic than ever because I am having hardly no carbs and I am getting about 80-90 grams of protein a day. I would say that if you think that you might "push the envelope" or if you find yourself to be a snacker just make sure it is healthy foods you are having. Also, don't get discouraged if you hit stalls along the way. I have hit so many in just 10 weeks that I thought I would not lose any more weight, lol. Sometimes I go 2-3 weeks and don't lose a single pound. Then next thing you know, I lose 3 lbs in 1 day. It is very strange but all of our bodies are different. Keep up the good work and you guys will do fine. Take care and feel free to message with any questions. I am happy to help! Take Care!
  3. I had the band for 4 years and lost only 60 lbs when my goal was to lose at least 100 lbs. I managed to keep it off for 4 years only because I threw up every single meal. They lie by saying you are full after a couple bites, chew, chew chew. I did that and still threw up. I lived on milkshakes and soup for 4 years since that was the only thing that stayed down. We tried to deflate it then I would gain. Then the reflux, port pain, then found out it slipped. My revision could not come quick enough. Most people in the first couple years do not experience a ton of issues but they are not looking at long term. Most people deal with throwing up because to an overweight person it's better to throw up than to be fat. That's what I thought anyway. Until I had the revision and I realize now how unhealthy I was when I had the band and how tired and sluggish I was. Now with the sleeve I feel alive, energetic, I can make healthy choices, I am finally full after a few bites, I can go to dinner with the family and not have to run to the bathroom to throw up after every bite. I have never thrown up with the sleeve and I feel 100,000 times better than I did with the band. I waisted $17,000 on the band and I so wish at the time I got the band that the sleeve was an option. At least it is in my past and I can finally live a healthy life.
  4. I would also let them read up on Dr. Aceves on the forums, so many people have such wonderful things to say about him. I could not find one bad thing about him when I was doing my research. You may also want to let your parents speak with someone who has been through it and how it has changed their life. I had surgery with Dr. Aceves June 23rd and I feel amazing and am down 35 lbs, I had the lap band and had to have it removed due to complications so I did a revision to the sleeve. Dr. Aceves and his team were awesome and I received better care than I have ever received in the U.S. I would be more than happy to answer any questions your mom may have to make her feel better about it. My mom felt the same way, especially when I said I was going to Mexico. Once I showed her all of Dr. A's credentials and all the reviews about him she felt so much better. Good luck to you and I am sure your mom will come around
  5. Geez thanks for this post I was starting to think that I was the only one. I lose 10 lbs and then gain 5 the next day. I could not understand why I would gain after having WLS. I thought if I lost it that it would be gone forever, LOL

    How did you do it?

Because I was a band to sleeve revision I had to go 15 days on each phase. Talk about I was about to puke at the thought of broth at day 14, lol. It was so so hard but I stuck to it. I did not want to risk messing up anything and having to take another trip back to Mexico. I hate flying so just flying there to have the surgery was enough for me. It gets better, stay strong
  7. I waisted 5 years of my life and $17,000 on the band. So glad that I finally took it out and have the VSG now. I feel alive again.
  8. Tomorrow makes 2 months since my band to sleeve revision and I am down 35 lbs. I have also been going to the gym 5 days a week and I am eating very healthy. I do think that I still would lose if I were not doing the working out and eating healthy, maybe I would not have lost quite as much. The sleeve won't allow you to eat a ton of food but if you drink a milkshake then that might keep you from losing. I find the sleeve is 1,000 better than the band. I have never thrown up my food with the sleeve where as I threw up every meal with the band. It has been soooooo much easier to make the lifestyle change with the sleeve versus the band. You can also go read up on LilMissDiva on this site. She has lost 100 lbs since her band to sleeve revision which I believe was almost a year ago, and I think she is in a size 4. I also think that she works out quite a bit and eats very healthy. I suppose you can fail with the sleeve but I would think that would be very hard to do and that person might just not be ready to make the changes necessary. My doctor told me that the surgery is only 50% and that I have to put in the other 50%, and I believe that statement to be very true. Good luck to you, you are going to love your sleeve way better than the band

This morning I've lost 150 LBS!!!

Wow, that is amazing. You were one of the first people I came across on this site when I was exploring my desire for the band to sleeve revision and Dr. Aceves. It is so great to continue to hear about your journey and how successful you have been. I am hoping that I can look back a year down the road and have 100 lbs gone. Please continue to keep us posted because you are a motivation to all the youngsters like myself

    Eroded Lap Band anyone???

I had my revision in June and I can tell you the sleeve is everything the band was promised to be. I did not have erosion but I had numerous other problems with the band. I could not wait to get that band out of me. I too was cash pay and paid $17,000 for my band, then turned around and spent another $12,000 for my revision. I could have saved myself a ton of $$$ but I am just grateful to be where I am today, without the band! I hope all this works out for you. Keep us posted. Donnie: Hope you are well

    slow weight loss

This is totally normal. I am 7 weeks out and have had 2 stalls so far. One lasted a week and the other over 2 weeks. I even gained 5 lbs during that time. I was very worried just like you but now in the past 5 days I lost 10 lbs. Don't worry, it will come off
  14. kekerene

    Got sleeved today too

Congrats. You will be up and at em in no time. Dr. Aceves and staff are going to take great care of you

Looking for some words of wisdom

I love the Premier Nutrition Protein shakes at Sam's Club or costco. They have 30 grams of protein in 1 shake, low carb and 1 gram of sugar. They taste a lot like the atkins shakes but have much more protein. To me, they taste like chocolate milk. I usually have 2 a day and that alone gives me 60 grams of protein. Sounds like you are doing great though, keep up the good work.

    Tylenol after surgery

I found the Gas X strips at Wal-Mart but like everyone says I don't think that will help much for the gas they pump into you. The only thing to really relieve that is walking. To me that was the worst part of recovery. It lasted about 2-3 days and to me it felt like having contractions when in labor, LOL. I also saw Dr. Aceves 2 months ago and the pain meds they gave me were called Supradol. You can put them under your tongue. They are not narcotic. They have a small pharmacy right in front the hospital where you can buy more Nexium Mumps and you can also buy as much Supradol as you think you will need to take home with you. I actually gave my husband the last pack of Supradol I had a week ago because he had a horrible toothache. Good Luck!

That is awesome to hear and you look fabulous might I add. Keep it up. I had surgery 7 weeks ago and I am hoping I can look as good as you in a year from now

    How did I get here?

I was also a band to sleeve revision and my surgeon was Dr. Aceves. I had all the same issues you had with the band. I also could have had a surgeon do my revision here close to my hometown for about the same cost but I chose Dr. Aceves because I felt like he was way more experienced at these revisions than the surgeons here. I had very similar band issues as you. I am so glad that it is gone and I am feeling great. Best of luck to you!

    Tomorrow Is The Day!!!

I was sleeved 6 weeks ago by Dr. Aceves and I do not recall a pain killer in the spine but after I was knocked out I don't know what went on, LOL. All I can say is that I had a great experience. Dr. Aceves and his team are awesome and you have nothing to be worried about. Best of luck to you, please keep us posted

What to take to the hospital

The lap top was a life saver for me. I was walking the halls after surgery and feeling fine. I checked emails, instant messeged with my family back home, even brought movies to play on the lap top. Really passed my time.
  22. Awesome. I am 5 weeks out now and down 27 lbs, so you are doing fantastic. I was like you, I lost 23 lbs in the first 2 weeks then hit a 2 week stall. Then I lost 4 lbs in a weekend and now I haven't lost anything in a few days, it's really weird. I am thinking this is all normal because I keep in touch with the other gals that were in the hospital having surgery too and all 4 of us have lost about the same since our surgery date. Everyone loses differently though. About the pain you are experiencing. I would say if it is bad pain to maybe go back a bit and give yourself a few more days on liquids or if one food item makes you uncomfortable, try something else and hold off on that one for a while. It takes a while for your stomach to heal in there and some heal quicker than others. You just don't want to upset your stomach, try to be as gentle on it as possible while in the healing stages. If the pain is really bad or you start vommiting I would definitely contact your doctor. Good luck to you!

    Kelly, Aceves or Alvarez

WOW. I can tell you this, I went to Dr. Aceves and not for 1 minute did I feel as though I was being sold something, nor do I see a ton of advertising from him. Why? Because he does not have to. His reputation and the hundreds of positive patient reviews speak for themself. Us patients of Dr. Aceves are not paid to speak highly of him nor do I think he would be the President of the Mexican Society for Bariatric Surgery if he was an idiot. One thing you are right about is that you do have your right to your opinions like everyone else on here. Just don't get mad when someone calls you an idiot back. Idiot!
