  1. I am interested in this as well. I started having these reflux bouts this past year. I did go to my doc and get some reflux meds that have helped. I was waking up at least once a week "yaking" on myself and choking (ouch & yuck just aren’t strong enough words to describe this event for me!). I had no idea it was reflux I thought something serious was really wrong until I went to the doctor. Then for whatever reason I decided that I didn’t need my pills anymore and quit taking them. Of course the yaking started again and like you depending on what kind of day I’ve had would determine my course of action, possibly no dinner and for sure no eating after 7pm. I have an appt with my doc to get back on my meds and this time I will stay on them! I think it is interesting that we are experiencing the same thing as a result of our bands and neither of us initially had this “side effect”. Lol. I wasn’t totally sure that it was my band that was causing this because several people at work had said they have had reflux problems.

HeatherO - you mentioned reflux. I'm curious what you're experiencing, if you wouldn't mind sharing. Here's why I ask.

In the last year or two, I've noticed (yet again, for the third time) a complete change in my band behavior. Reflux is one of them. I used to have 2 gears with my band:

    1. "Good"

    2. "Gonna yak"

(and then there was about a 30 minute buffer between the two, during which I might go from "good" to "gonna yak" or vice versa)

There really wasn't anything in between. Then I slowly noticed that I developed a 3rd gear, which was:

    3. "Definitely not clear, but not hurting & not gonna yak either, just feeling kinda oogie."

#3 used to not bother me, and normally when I woke up the next morning I would feel fine. Then slowly this changed, and if I was in 3rd gear I had a few options:

    A. Don't eat for a day, maybe two, and eventually everything straightens itself out.

    B. Try to drink something, and if I could get a few swallows down it would clear up. Especially if I could drink something cold (cold drinks with an uncleared pouch used to be guaranteed yaksville for me).

If I need to sleep before A or B can happen, it's pretty much guaranteed reflux. Multiple times, all night long, and 2 or 3 times I've woken up having aspirated it - ouch & yuck. I can't really explain the sensation of #3 very well. it's subtle, but there. It's not uncomfortable, it's just noticeable. Perhaps a tiny pressure. But it's definitely not the feeling of a cleared pouch, and if I'm not feeling 100% clear/nothing's there, I KNOW I will reflux. And I haven't been wrong yet. But I wouldn't say it happens often. A night - maybe two in a row - every few months. But it gets to where during tight periods, I'll just not eat because I don't want to be refluxing all night. Tests show everything is fine, and I'm sitting at 0.25 cc. Just another chapter in "life with the band" maybe.

  2. Congrats! Glad to hear that your doing so well. I have never heard of the "sleeve"? I guess I will have to Google it. =)

It's been awhile for me also. I'm no longer a bandit, but am now a sleever since July. Long story.... but the reason was with regard to a very large hiatal hernia that would not hold if the band were in place. I'm nearly at goal and very pleased with this procedure. I didn't realize how much trouble my band was... or maybe just accepted the trouble as part of the process. But for my situation this has been the best solution. I almost forgot about PBing... things getting "stuck" that horrible feeling when something isn't chewed quite well enough and knowing it's coming up... not to mention no more acid reflux at nights; no more being too tight one day (or part of a day) and able to eat a barn the next. My sleeved stomach works just like a "regular" stomach... it just fills up with less...consistently. The weight loss is consistent and doesn't require much effort... eat balanced diet... eat when hungry, stop when full. I'm down 105 lbs from start weight, and still losing. Could go faster if I were to diet and exercise consistently... but this is okay.

  3. I wish you much luck on your journey!

    Hi!

I'm still here too. I was banded Sept. 2007 and lost about 85 pounds. Then I got pregnant and had to unfill completely at five months. I saw onderland for one day (the day before they had to unfill me completely because I couldn't even keep Water down). I gained 50 pounds after that. Due to some medical issues, O have had to eat" around" the band to get enough carbs down. Unfortunately that means I have settled at about 220. I have been trying to get pregnant again for a year, so my band is not as tight as it needs to be for me to continue losing weight. But, since it is taking me so long to get pregnant, O have decided to just go ahead and get the fill and have an appointment in a week and a half. My goal is still 180. Hopefully soon!

Good to be back! I need this motivation!

  4. Hi Old-Timers! I haven't posted in several years. I really have missed this site and am glad to have gotten the email to come back. Little by little my band-mates disappeared and so did I. It is funny at first I just couldn't get enough of this site all the support was so great for me from before getting my band through the first year. Even if I did not post I came on everyday to read about everyone's journey. It is so comforting to know you're not alone. April will be my four year bandiversary and I am VERY proud to say that I have kept my weight off! I have had two hiccups and am not sure why. I gained about 20lbs and started to freak out and went to see my doctor for a fill. He assured me that everything was fine and said that after time some of our fill does disappear. Not quite the technical terms that he used, but you get the point. So I got a fill and still no luck, then went back a month later got another fill and the weight has slowly started going down. I am not sure if this is my body settling or what, but I am glad to be back on track. My goal weight started out as 115 but when I made it my DH did a bunch of moaning and groaning that I was too thin (can you be too thin coming from our journey? I think NOT!!) and so I had a little unfill and gained to 120. Now I fluctuate between 120-126. When I go above that I watch and pay attention to what I'm doing. It is always me because I still love my chips and Cookies so I have to make sure I'm eating the right stuff. I will be back to check on everyones progress and see how everyone else is doing. It is great to hear from everyone thanks for starting this thread. :D

  5. Fatwidow--

No self-doubt, STOP IT! I believe we all doubt ourselves and the closer it gets to our surgery date the harder we are on ourselves. In our over active minds we truly believe we are just going to fail again. We start questioning ourselves and wonder if we will make it – will we be successful?....BUT!!! <-- yep there is a BUT! We DO make it! I started off doubting everything, I was worrying over spending the money and all the ‘what if's’. Then after the surgery I was slow to lose. It seemed as if everyone else was losing but me...... then I was just confirming all my doubts that I was the one who wasn't going to lose and that the lapband would not work for me. :) Well here I am now 55 lbs down and only :) 17 lbs until goal! I was a slow loser and remained a slow loser even working out since about my 3rd month, three times a week, but all the sudden one day I looked in the mirror and realized that I was half my original size and all the -1 and -1.5 lbs did add up! :tt1:I am 9 months and 4 fills since surgery. I love my band and it keeps me in-line. I still want to eat (head-hunger) but my band just won’t let it happen. I am slowly working on my mental self which is how I got to be large to begin with. Dr K is great and will give you a fill whenever you think you need it. He worked with me each time to make sure I felt good. So no doubting yourself……. Once it is all over you will have no regrets! :frown:

  9. Hi Kity! How are you?

I just heard on the radio that for all us poor slugs that could not go see Garth we can go to the movie theater here and watch it live. I guess they are high tech and can satellite it in. That is an option but I’ll pass. It is just not the same as being there~

Tracy I am so sorry for you! I think I would have had to sale my tickets!! That would be me standing on the corner I would have made some serious $$.
