  1. Great job deedee72... I am happy for you and hope for a continued success in your wls journey. Wow!!! 65lbs lost is great... I can't wait til it's my turn. I just started my journey August 18th when I attended my first ever LapBAnd seminar. I haven't been banded yet but the nurse submitted all my paperwork to my insurance company (Anthem BCBS) on Tuesday Sept 13th... and there it was 2 days later n I got my approval for my surgery. 28 days was all it took and now all I have to do is pick a date. I'm hoping for Oct 14th or Oct 21st. Just waiting on my supervisor to call me back and let me know what would be a better day so I wont inconvenience the work schedule too bad. So happy!!! This is the best news I've gotten in a long time!!! Any tips on what I need to get before surgery and what to bring with me to the hospital on surgery day? I'm definitely looking for a support group. Thanks

Wow! I wish you much success. Everything is moving along for you so smoothly! Keep me posted!

  2. That is a great story. Yes, Lane Bryant used to be my best friend. Although I am not even at my halfway point, I refuse to shop at Lane Byrant again. My biggest goal was to get out of the plus size stores. Now I can get into a size 16 or 18 so I don't need to shop there anymore. It is a struggle everyday, but when the scale moves, it makes me remember my reason for doing this. What a wonderful journey! Good luck to you!

  3. I am at 7cc and I couldn't imagine having anymore in my fill- but you have to remember everyone is different. Comorbidities, like Diabetes, do cause complications- but there is absolutely no reason I could think of that would have caused your 10 lbs weight gain without "cheating". It isn't worth the chance of band slippage, paying to have it repaired and going through it all again. I feel for you- that is no way to be treated, but consider that they are not angry at you but angry that you are failing your band.

What types of foods are you eating? Are you hungry or bored? Do you push past FULL?

Hope all gets better- stay on top of your sugars and your choices!!!

I have reached a huge goal- down 40 lbs today. YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Just curious, when did you get banded? I just reached 40 lbs and had surgery 6/17. Good job! Keep me posted.

  4. I would kiss the ground someone walked on for the rest of my long, healthy days, if I could get this surgery...My Dr's told me I'm the perfect candidate...My co-borbidities and health issues related to my weight are kicking in at 23. I am desperate for help.

My insurance, BCBS has an exclusion for Bariatrics on the policy my employer selected, so that is never an option for me with this company. I have researched everything...Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi. I just read your post. Did you ever get your surgery? How are you coming along? Keep in touch.

  5. It is so nice to open a thread and see everyone posting success! Great job everyone :)

For me ........ I lost 100 pounds in 1 year. I had 2 fills at that point, no exercise, no counting, tracking, measuring.....

I just folowed some very basic guidelines.

    You can do it !

So tell me about that please. I got banded on 6/17/11 and have lost 30lbs so far. I would like to lose 100lbs in a year and I have not exercised really. Can you give me some tips on what guidlines you followed?

    Thank you

    Rochelle

  6. I am in the same boat. I have lost 30 lbs but have been stuck here for about 2 weeks. My problem is my caloric intake. I don't eat as much as I should, it's hard sometimes. But i guess all we can do is take one day at a time. Hang in there!

  7. Amen Jachut! I agree with you totally. Just don't finish your food. My Surgeon's office gave me that card as well. But honestly, I always forget that I have it and have yet to use it. I just buy a regular plate, eat what I can, and take the rest home. This is not so complicated you know.

  8. Congrats to you! I had a really hard time with not being able to eat and drink at the same time too, but it's really not that big a deal. You are more concerned with chewing very well and getting the food down to worry about drinking. Trust me :) Every now and then I have to take a small sip of Water if something gets a little stuck. But it is a big no no. That is something that you will get used to fast. Like Pixistix said, the veggies can be kinda tough to get down at times, but just met them wet with something. I don't have problems with any meats yet. I have been banded for 9 weeks so I am still a newbie to this. But every now and then I will put guacamole on steak and chicken if I think it is too dry. You will be fine. Good luck and keep in touch!

  9. Good for you! I had a Hiatal Hernia with my surgery as well. 6/17/2011. I can honestly say that the worst part was the gas. I had it for about 2-3 days after I went home. The hernia repair was probably what hurt the most. I am very happy I did it. I feel great and look forward to my lifelong journey. Good luck to you.

  10. I was banded today! Got to the hospital at 5:30 was the first appointment. I was out by 2pm. I took a little longer to wake up because I went to bed at midnight so I just wanted to sleep!!! LOL

I'm doing good. I think I went in thinking the pain from gas would be excruciating....it wasn't. My throat hurts more than the gas pains from the breathing tube.

But yea. So far so good. I have to try and get a Protein shake down...8 oz but I was told to drink it 2 tbsp at a time to prevent overeating and having it get stuck. Anyone else had to do this???

I'm documenting EVERYTHING that happened to me on my blog right now (www.shrinkingjustine.com) If anybody wants to share tips or has questions about the surgery who has yet to be banded, just ask or let me know! :P

Also if anyone is in GA and wants to exchange info we can be band buddies!

Hi. I was banded on 6/17/11. Just wanna see how you are moving along. Keep in touch!

  11. I was banded on 6/17 and started to eat only a cup of food at a sitting. But still had restriction. 1 cup was really not enough for me after about a month. So I would just stop myself when I hit about 1 1/2 cups of food and just lost that way. I just had my second fill a few days ago and now I really have restriction! But my doctor always told me that he does not want me to measure my food. Because he said that if you eat 1 cup of cream Soup, you will not be full and you have put a lot of empty calories in you. He said that he would rather me eat 3 cups of fish and veggies because that doesn't have many calories and stay full longer. It makes more sense to me that way also. But, I don't measure my food either, It feels like such a diet to me that way. I get discouraged and feel like I can't have anything. So it just works for me. It works better for many people. Keep up the good work and good luck to you!

  12. My doctor puts 3cc-4cc, depending on what type of band you have. I have an AP Standard so I got 3.4cc. My second fill was yesterday and she gave me 1.4cc. So now I am at 4.8cc total in my band. I had a little restriction but felt that I needed more. So they really listen to me there. That's how it should be. They decide how much to put depending on how comfortable the patient is. Good luck!
