  1. I was denied twice through UHC. I hired Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy in May.

FINALLY AFTER MANY MONTHS MY REVISION SURGERY HAS BEEN APPROVED!!!!! THANK YOU WALTER & KELLEY LINDSTROM, Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy, FOR NOT GIVING UP AND FOR MAKING THIS HAPPEN! I'm so excited I can hardly stand it. 2016 is going to be a year of wonderful changes in my life!

  2. Thanks so much for the update. I am so sorry you still don't have this resolved. Were you able to have the band removed while you are waiting or does this hold up the band removal, too?

The plan is to do it all at once so I don't have additional costs, more time off work and additional anesthesia.

  3. @@Bobbe Schu what happened with your peer to peer

My p2p was last May. They approved lb removal but denied revision. That's when I hired Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy. Since then, I've had another denial; currently awaiting the second; then we will request an external review whereby my case MUST be reviewed by a subject matter expert and NOT a plastic surgeon or other physician totally uneducated in bariatrics. Just more waiting! I hate UHC!!!!

  4. I knew several nurses who worked for UHC as chart reviewers, the nurses were told to Deny...Deny...Deny. I have UHC as a secondary ins and I am having a hell of a time for them even picking up little stuff. They suck! You really have to appeal with them, they never want to pay. It's stupid. Thank goodness, I have good primary insurance.

Unbelievable!!! And in the meantime, my health continues to deteriorate!

  5. Bobbi, is this with the weight loss advocates?

Yes. But now we move to the next step. I will not give up, nor will the Lindstroms! So happy to have them in my corner. Without them I would not have pursued this--wouldn't have known I had the choice.
maybe its the third time is a charm thing. I wouldn't give up either. I was prepared to contact the Lindstrom group if I wasn't approved.
Congratulations! I am so very happy for you! Do you have a date yet?

  6. Denied again! So Lindstrom's will appeal again! They were not at all surprised and said this was expected. Afterall, my appeal was reviewed by a PLASTIC SURGEON and not a doctor who specializes is bariatrics!!!! UNBELIEVABLE! Round 2 here we come!!!!!

  7. Bobbe schu I pray you get approval. Fingers crossed!

Well denied again, so we appeal again! Lindstrom's were not surprised. Said this is exactly what was expected. Appears my appeal was reviewed by a PLASTIC SURGEON and admittedly agreed that band removal was necessary. So if removal was approved and my original surgery passed all criterion, why not approve the NEEDED revision?!!!! Stinks! But I press on!

  8. Walter Lindstrom filed my appeal yesterday after finally receiving all of my medical records. So now we wait to see what happens. Fingers crossed for reversal of the denial! Really anxious!

I must say I am in awe over the appeal letter. It is truly amazing! If you need help with your appeal, Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy is the only way to go. I never could have written anything this powerful!

  9. You really need to contact Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy if your insurance company is forcing you to jump through hoops for a revision. They're working on mine now and I'm so excited. First consult is free and they are wonderful. Time and money well spent!

  10. If you haven't yet, have your doctor to a peer-to-peer appeal on your behalf. In many cases, especially revisions, insurance companies will try to deny revisions unless you fight for them. My band-to-bypass was denied a couple of times, even though I jumped through all of their hoops, because they said that I hadn't proved that the band had a technical malfunction (I had severe acid reflux and couldn't tolerate any Fluid in the band at all, but apparently that didn't count, lol) and couldn't prove that I had been compliant with diet and exercise (I had been, but had to switch surgeons three times when I moved to new states, so I didn't have records). I finally asked my surgeon to do a peer-to-peer appeal, and was approved the same day.

I did have a peer to peer which is when they approved removal of band but not the revision. So I hired an advocate and they are working on the appeal. It just seems like it's taking such a long time and I'm so very discouraged! Confident, but discouraged. I've now developed high blood pressure and feel like absolute crap! Trying so hard to be patient but just want this over with! I know in the long run the wait will be worth it, but for now I'm a mess!

  11. Red37 I did have some and it stayed down great! Unfortunately in Indiana it is hard to find. My go to is Trader Joe's but it is 45 mins away. Next time I go I will stock up!

Where in Indiana are you from?
I live in New Palestine just east of Indianapolis
I live in Pendleton and work for Roche Diagnostics.

I'm waiting on my appeal for revision to bypass to be overturned. What's your story?

I originally had my band placed in 2008, I had some early success losing about 50 lbs but after the first two years I got tired of fighting it. I resorted to eating around it. For the next 4-5 years I did weight watchers and a bunch of other diets (blah) with some success but the weight always came back plus some.

My last straw was I went into my PCP last December and my weight was up to 263 (only 20 lbs shy of my pre band weight). I called that day and made an appointment with my surgeon. We discussed options and the RNY seemed the way to go.

I didn't have any trouble with insurance, after my 3 month supervised weight loss, they submitted on a Friday and I was approved on a Monday.

Wow! Sounds sooooo familiar! Who did your bypass?
