  1. I'm so sorry to hear you are going through this. I found this post because I just started having a little tenderness and what I believe is swelling near my port site. I'm less then 10 months out from surgery with no complications. I've been super active, and will be devastated if I have to have another surgery and break out of my exercise habit, let alone get the band out. I'm kind of attached to it. Ugh. I am terrified of complications, and hope you have a good, healthy outcome. Please keep us posted!

  2. Hi guys. I'm less then 10 months out from surgery with no complications, and down 84 lbs with 30-40 more to go. I'm very active now. I ran a half marathon, I do a fitness boot camp a couple of times a week, go running, and play on a kickball team. All of a sudden (the day after I just so happened to have a kickball game) I woke up and my port area was kind of sore to the touch. I have 3 kids 3 and under, and they are very active (3 year old twin boys and an 18 month old daughter), so I'm constantly holding someone, getting jumped on, etc. I noticed that when they sat in my lap and leaned into my port area, it was tender. It's not red or warm, but that part of my stomach seems like it's sticking out more then normal. I have a lot of excess skin on my stomach so it's hard to tell if it's swollen, but it definitely looks to me like it's sticking out more in that area. It's not PAINFUL, but tender, and something just doesn't feel right. I do a lot of ab work at boot camp, but I've never experienced this before. Can anyone tell me if anything like this has ever happened to them? I did go ahead and make an appointment, but I'm starting to get paranoid about what it might be. Any thoughts or experiences you can share?

  3. Thanks for the info. I'm wondering if my port flipped? I feel like my stomach is poking out, and it's kind of sore when something touches it where my port is (out of the blue). I play on a kickball team and do a fitness boot camp so I'm wondering if somehow I did it exercising? I'm not sure that's what I've done, but I go to the doc tomorrow and it seems like this is fairly common. I'm really nervous now about needing another surgery.

  4. THanks for the response. I have a doctor appointment tomororw. At first I was just going to "wait and see" but I'd rather be safe then sorry. I just feel like something isn't right. How do you flip a port and what do they do when that happens?

  5. So I called and talked to a nurse, who said to keep an eye on it and call if it got worse, but that it could have been related to some of the physical activity I've done lately (kickball game, boot camp fitness classes, etc), but now I feel like my stomach is swollen. Any thoughts? I'll call back tomorrow for an appointment, but I'm terrified something is wrong and my biggest fear is having to have the band removed for some reason. Anyone out there have something like this happen???

  6. Hello and thanks in advance for any responses. I was banded in August of 2011 and am down from 271-187lbs. I really haven't had any complications other then having to have some taken out of my band at one point because it was hard to keep liquids down. I feel like I'm close to my green zone, but not quite there. I feel like I can eat a tad more then maybe I should, but I try to control it on my own.

Here is my issue...all of a sudden my port feels a little sore when pushed on. I have 3 kids 3 and under who jump all over me (3 year old twin boys), so I'm not sure if it was hit too hard and is now just a little sore? Or I also do a fitness boot camp a couple of times a week and I played kickball yesterday. Could it gettting hit cause this or should I be concerned it could be more serious? It's not sore unless it's pushed on or hit. Not really when I'm just sitting here. Does that make sense?

  7. Hey guys! I'm not quite one week post op and I walked all over the zoo today and I'm definitely regretting it right now. I guess that's a little dramatic because I don't really feel too bad. Just a little sore and tired. Today is the date I am "released" to go back to work, but I am a stay at home mom and zoo trips come with the territory. I'm not supposed to be on mushies until Wednesday and I ate a little oatmeal for Breakfast and a half a cup of cream of wheat for dinner. And man did it taste good. 2 weeks of liquids and starving was AWFUL. Just a half a cup of oatmeal in the morning gave me so much more energy and was the first time in two weeks I didn't feel like ripping someones face off. I forgot to weigh myself this morning but I think I'm down about 13 lbs since August 17th. I'll confirm/deny that tomorrow.

And I'm jealous of people who got good pain meds. We were told to take ibuprofen and it didn't really help much the first couple of painful days.

  8. walk walk walk will make these pains go away! I had them too and would call the office asking if I was ok. She would tell me if you were okay you wouldnt' be able to talk to me right now. So tell him to walk walk walk please! Even around the house and go up and down stairs if he can.

I was banded 2 days ago and have the same thing. When I swallow anything or take a deep breath I have a sharp air bubble like pain in the middle of my chest.

  9. I was banded yesterday too. I did not hava a good night, lots of gas. Sometimes I react strangely to pain meds and sure enough this one did the same. My body jerks and it wakes me up. I guess I woke up about every 15 minutes all night. I did get a nap this morning so I'm feeling better. Feels like I've done a millions crunches when I cough. I actually gained a lb too.

How are you feeling? I'm sure glad I don't have little ones to run after now. Do you have help?

I'm sorry you had a tough night. I woke up so nauseaus I thought I was going to vomit and I was freaking out. I ate a sour popsicle (which used to help with my morning sickness), and took a phenegran (I think that's what it's called) and was able to go back to sleep without vomitting. But now I'm paranoid because any time I drink anything, it's like it has to push it's way down. Almost like an air bubble in my chest. Could that mean that my band has slipped? I mean, it's not supposed to hurt to swallow liquids, right?

  10. I only had to do a day of liquids then moved on to soft foods for the next 3 days then went onto solids. Every doctor does seem to have a different philosophy. Personally I dont think the Soup would hurt much. The only problem with 'creamy' Soups is that they are usually pretty fattening and have a lot of sodium, which doesnt help with swelling.

Thanks for all of your help!

  11. Hello everyone! I was banded yesterday. I was 266 by the surgeons scale before the preop diet. Weighed in at 258.2 the day of surgery after a 1 week liquid diet. But my home scale weighed me at 271 and 263 so I'm just going to go with those numbers since I'll mostly be weighing on my own scale. I am 33 years old and I have 2 year old twin boys (3 in October) and an 8 month old daughter. Oh, and a wonderful husband. :) I look forward to getting to know you guys!

  12. My doctor started me out on puree foods right after surgery......

It's so weird how different all of the doctors are. I only did 1 week preop liquids, but I see lots of people having to do 2 weeks. But e friend of mine only had to do 1 day. And everyones post op diets are different. That's what makes me wonder if I couldn't just have a couple of bites of a creamy Soup. But I don't want to regret it, ya know? Were you able to tolerate purees without incident right after surgery?

  13. Hello all! I was banded on Tuesday 8/23 had and continue to have painful gas. I'm afraid it will not subside for a few more weeks. I didn't realize that the stomach was blown up for the procedure so that gas lingers in the body and possibly resorbed through the intestines (?) not sure but painful as heck.

This is a lot harder than I thought it would be. Im craving deli sandwiches on french rolls and all the other stuff that I shouldnt have right now or probably never will. Are there any of you out there that had the same issues as me?

Also, kind of bummed because I just recently found out one of our family friends had lap band and had it removed and gained a hell of a lot of weight back. I dont want to be that statistic so now Im kinda turned off by the whole lapband deal. My dr. recommended vsg but honestly I was deathly afraid of going that route. At what point did some of you feel like there were no restrictions ? I guess this liquid diet is the pits for a very hungry girl.

    Any feedback greatly appreciated.

I was banded yesterday. I am totally looking forward to adding in mushy stuff. What does your post op diet look like? I can't have Jello or creamy Soups until tomorrow. Then in likw 5 days I can add in oatmeal or cream of wheat or mashed potatoes. I want some creamy Soup right now so bad just to have something on my stomach. I see that some people are allowed to have that stuff right off the bat. Why did your friend have to have the band removed?
