  1. Thanks you two! I didn't have a tube either and really had a fairly good experience. I'm wondering why everyone talks about having gas afterward. I thought that was only with the more invasive surgery that that happens. Wish I could go home the same day. Ugh.
  2. I have an appt. to begin the classes in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, I'm trying to eat healthily, exercise and pray about what to do! I'm also doing a lot of reading on the surgery. I have a few questions. 1. Are complications after surgery common? I've seen a few people mention leaks, abscesses, etc. I just don't want to be sick or deal with anything else, but learning to eat in a new way afterward. 2. Eventually, can you have any kind of food, but just in moderation? I'm talking an event or festive holiday occasion where I might want a sip of a margarita or bite of chocolate. Could I ever do that again? Seriously...this is stressing me out. I'm also worrying about putting myself under surgery when I have young children and a husband. Great forum. Thanks so much!

    changing sizes......

I haven't been sleeved yet, but when I lost 80 pnds, I sold all my clothes on Ebay and then bought more. One great place is Old Navy. They have plus size and you can find super great deals in their clearance section. I bought jeans there for $5 on many occasions. Good Luck!

    Need to belch

Hhmmm....I don't know about baking soda. I've used it before and it works great (I'm not sleeved), but I know you should never take it on a full stomach. I read once that someone's stomach burst from taking it while full. Not sure how your new stomach would handle it. Ask a Dr.
  5. Thanks everyone for the response. I see these posts about depression, abscesses, leaks, slime, vomiting and head hunger and I freak out. : ) I want to not feel as hungry and feel energetic! I don't want to choke and vomit and feel regrets. Don't know what to do.
  6. Forgot to also ask.....how long is the average stay in the hospital after surgery?
  7. I've been reading a bit on these forums and I have some questions. 1. I've noticed a couple of people mention they can hardly get food down after the surgery. Why is this? Does it hurt? Are you simply full? Nauseous? 2. Do you feel any pain the surgery? 3. Just how hard is it? If you're hungry in your head (which I'm thinking happens a lot), how do you work through that? Do you crave solid food or is the liquid diet doable? 4. Did any of you regret having the surgery? 5. Can you ever eat normal food again? Ok, I think that's all for now. Thanks for the info and feel free to throw anything else in there that I forgot. : )

    New Here!

Welcome! I've done nothing but research so far, but plan to follow up on my referral tomorrow. Good luck with everything. Love your profile name, by the way. : )
  9. I mentioned this in my other post, but what I'm most of afraid of is this.....following surgery, how many different medications are you on as a result of the surgery? I've seen posts regarding blood pressure, acid reflux, etc. I just want to have the surgery, fell full, make better food choices and move on. I don't want to be in a fragile medical state worrying about leaks, infections etc. If you are on meds because of the surgery, what are the, why are you taking them and for how long? I just want to move on with my life. Thanks! Sooooo afraid.

    So....what's it like?

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate everyone taking the time to respond. I think the main thing that bothers me, besides not being able to drink much (seriously!), is that I want to have the surgery and start my new life, while not being in this fragile medical state of being. It sounds like there are so many issues (reflux, etc) and medications that need to be taken following the surgery. I just want the surgery and want to feel less hungry and, therefore, simply eat less and move on. I don't want to feel sick and sad. Afraid to do it. Afraid not to.

    calorie confusion

I have not yet had the surgery but have done calorie cycling (not on purpose). I lost 80pnds a while back, by counting calories and walking. On occasion we would eat out and I'd eat a higher calorie meal. Over the next couple of days, I would drop more weight than I had when I was eating a low calorie meal. Of course, I'd go right back to counting calories and then eat out again.

    So....what's it like?

Thanks Carmi! So, you can never have popcorn or ice cream ever, ever again? I guess I'm hoping I can eat what I eat now, but much less?

    So....what's it like?

Thanks for the info! Wow! Only sips of Water? I'm a drinker (diet Coke, water, etc). I'm thirsty all the time (not diabetic). How in the world could I get by with tiny sips of liquids? Ugh. One more thing... I was reading the post about depression after WLS. Anyone else experience this? This is a huge concern of mine as I have issues with depression on occasion.
  14. Hi, I have not had the surgery, but am looking into it. What I'm wondering is why is it so difficult to get a drink or shake down just after surgery and the month or so that follows? Is it hard to swallow because it hurts or are you simply not hungry and getting full quickly? Any other info would be great. Thanks!
