    sleeved and home

Well they don't want pure sugar hitting your sleeved stomach. fruit juice, sweetened drinks etc are pure sugar. When I was on clears I had the Isopure plus clear Protein drinks as well which gave me some calories. Different surgeons do it different ways, but I am now on full liquids since yesterday, so skim milk and protein powder are included. The plan I have is similar to the Hopkins plan http://www.hopkinsbayview.org/bin/c/a/nutrition_sleeve.pdf Thats a good document for ideas on what to eat, but follow your surgeons guidelines on progression stages to be safe.
  2. hmm, I wonder if it is just soreness in general--did they have your leg inflation things too tight? were you walking more on your toes than usual? My calves have been normal. I rarely wore the leg things because I kept walking instead when the nurse would come in and say she needed to put them on.

    Sippin the night away

Glad you liked it. Now if I could just get Chumbawamba to re-record with my lyrics we could have us a theme song  For those who did not recognize it or listen to popular radio for the last 10 years :tongue_smilie: this was my drug induced rewrite of Chumbawamba's "Tubthumping"

    Sleeved on 4/28

I guess everyone reacts differently to liquids, mine seem to run right through the sleeve into the intestines. Especially if I am walking. I took a 30 min walk with the wife yesterday and looked down to reallize I had sipped through 8 ounces of liquid in that 30 mins. Anything thicker than water will stay in the sleeve for a bit but water runs through quickly. I think I have always been this way even pre-sleeve though. Pre-sleeve if I got a drink at a movie, there is almost no way I am making it through the movie without having to pee. Do you actually feel full with water? I can feel full on jello, just not water. Granted I have not felt hunger or thirst outside of dry-mouth yet so taking the water is something I have to remember to do. Also 4/28 sleever.
  6. I was just in one night for my sleeve, but the revision can be a bit more complex depending on scar tissue etc. Just remember to try and walk early and often and you will be surprised how much that helps your healing physically and mentally. Take advantage of your pain meds while they are paid for in the hospital, use them to help yourself get around. I would walk after that good feeling they gave me and then take a nap after the walk if needed.
  7. Awesome to hear. I hear lots of I wish I had gotten the sleeve instead of <insert other wls here> I have not heard much about a sleever wishing that had gone with another option yet. In my opinion the sleeve is the best proceedure out there for acomplishing your goals and doing it safely.

Doing real good. Posted details in my blog and a brief vlog update. Links in signature below. Thanks for Asking! How did the revision go for you?
  9. I am able to get all my liquids in fine. Water moves right through the sleeve for me so I can now do eight onces in about 30 mins never getting full. If I forget and gulp vrs sip thats a guaranteed burp and reminder to slow down.
  10. Awesome story you have to share--and in doing so we all benefit! The pics are just icing on the cake--beautiful!
  11. Yeah I think original number includes the 2 years where they were using 48-60 bougie size in the beginning of the VSG studies. I think this will go up with the last three years most VSG's use the low 30's as a starting size. You also have to take into account those over 60+ bmi who may do VSG as stage 1 for a DS. Their EWL will be lower % total.
  12. I dropped the pain meds this morning because they were making me too edgy all evening yesterday. Today I went and got liquid adult tylenol and it helps without the drugged up feeling. Also burping allot, and other emissions I won't mention :biggrin0:

    Am I stupid..hmmm

To steal a phase from another trade, "measure twice eat once" :thumbup1: I mean that extra bit you may cram in is just not worth it. My surgeons office did specifically say that slight overeating putting a tug on the suture line will make it take longer to heal. Imagine if you had a cut on your arm even with stitches on the cut and you pulled at both sides of it three to four times a day pulling the skin and stretching the cut--do you think it would heal the same as if you did not put any unnecessary pressure on it? If you do things right the first 6 weeks you are more likely to get a fully healed suture line.

    Less than one week

My suggestion one day out now is this: Go in expecting the anesthesia to mess with your mind the first couple of hours after surgery, feels like you have severe cloudy brain for a bit. Get the pain meds, nap and after that first nap the world is a better place. Keep track of your med times and be proactive on them and take them. A few minutes after each of the liquid meds I always felt great--use that time to walk and move about. Then as you get tired from moving nap or rest. Walking and sipping like its a mantra and you feel much better in no time.
  17. Sleeved this morning. No too chatty here but im doing ok--check back in later.. Time to start my journey...
  18. Thanks everyone, Doing very well today after some sleep.
  19. I had mine yesterday and when I first woke up I had pain and the anesthisia clouded my head for a couple of hours. After that is was not too bad, but I did take avantage of the liquid pain med they gave every 4 hours I feel the gas bubbles as they pass through the sleeve and when on the meds it is noticible but not painful :however I can tell a difference when I am near the 4 hours. I was up walking early and often so that helped. In the hospital wide awake now so I am surfing the forums. So bring a laptop or book for when you can't sleep!
  20. Woot! Way to go sleeve sister! Doing well here too. I love them meds! That first hour I was like holy hell what did I just do cause it hurt like a truck ran over me. Once the anesthisia unclouded my brain I was good to go. Been doing the laps and sips--we are going to rock these sleeves!

    Confessions of a professional dieter...

I am one week from my surgery, so I think it is time to start my blog. Today I am going to start with my story: I am currently 40 years old and morbidly obese at 323 Lbs. I have been overweight probably since age 3. I remember my earliest attempts at a ?diet? started around age 15. After 25 years of dieting I am sad to say that I have become a professional dieter, and a failed one at that. I have been fairly successful in most areas of my life, with one area that I have never been able to succeed in long term. Early on in dieting I tried many diets and fads: slim fast, nutri-system, good old fashion running, lifting weights, diet pills, sweat suits, fat reduction belts, sports, karate (up to Black belt level), work sponsored personal trainer and doctor led diet system, cardio of every type, interval workouts, several best-selling diet programs, diet software, internet based diet programs (ebooks) etc. With myself as the human guinea pig I know what works to lose weight. Some of the best programs out there that really worked for me and were actually healthy were based on the principles you see in ?Body for Life? and ?Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle?. I know the ways to lose weight safely and steadily. I know how to mostly avoid or break weight loss stalls and plateaus. I don?t know what?s worse, being ignorant and fat or knowing exactly what to do but failing over and over doing exactly what I know is self-defeating. It is like the mechanic who can fix everyone?s car but his own. More about exercise: I inherited my mother?s strong cardiovascular system, anytime I work out during a diet, my heart is back in shape within a couple of weeks. My cardiovascular system far exceeds my physical capability. In other words If I did not have so much extra weight I could run forever?my muscles and joints give way long before my heart or lungs are winded. As an example during one of my better diet runs (the doctor led one sponsored by my work) I got up to where I could run 12 miles and I was still at 250 pounds?my knees and shins gave out that day, but my heart and lungs could have kept going. My goal at the time was to run a marathon and I had built up to this distance over time, but I injured myself and went fell into a terrible slump gaining the weight back and much more. Just this past year starting what would be my final diet attempt I went from 340 down to 320 pounds and was working out hard?just to give you an idea of the heart health I had an EKG at 320 lbs. and my resting heart rate was 44 bpm. The doc who did the EKG and physical made a comment about how healthy my various blood pressure and heart numbers were even compared to some athletes she had seen. I was like so ?I?m a healthy fat guy, how does that help me??. She then mentioned the VSG or Lap band to help me for long term weight-loss. I had not really entertained thoughts of WLS very much?I?m a ?professional dieter? after all who knows what works and what doesn?t (HA!) I am so glad she brought that up because it got my stubborn technical brain to really research WLS. This was reinforced when I had 2 other friends at work have WLS (one band one bypass) and I was seeing their results. For the first time I looked at the surgery objectively and read every technical detail I could about the options out there?this is what led me to the VSG as the best choice for me. My failure in every diet has been my lack of a ?Full? sensation. My mom says I had no full button as a kid?if she put it in front of me, I ate it. I have always over eaten; even when I eat healthy I eat too much in portions. Here is an operation that finally gives me an ability to feel full with just a few ounces, not have excessive hunger, and it does not have the major drawbacks of the band or bypass. So this is not a magic bullet, it is a tool. This is the tool I have been missing in my so called ?professional dieting? career of 25 years. I also know and have already planned to get some mental assistance to deal with the fact that I can no longer live to eat. I start my journey using this new tool on 4/28/2010. I can?t wait to run again and not have to worry about my weight slowing me down! I plan to use my knowledge to benefit me in this journey incorporating the good healthy principles I have learned over the years. Now that I have the right tool to assist me, I will succeed!
  22. I decided to start my blog today with my story and how I ended up here. rather than repost my story here I wanted to invite you to read my blog if you like. I am looking forward to starting my journey with the sleeve on 4/28 Blog Link: "Confessions of a professional dieter...."

    Confessions of a professional dieter...

Thank you all so much for the support--Goodlife good luck with you as well, since we start this journey on the same day and should keep each other on track! Anytime I stop or worry about what tomorrow will bring I remember the feeling of running and getting my "second wind" its an awesome feeling and I want it back again soon... I swear the first day I hit it there will be tears of joy!
  25. Wish I had thought to buy one--I always had to try and quietly ask for it. Got to love when the lady yells to the other attendant for one cause she cant find one. Talk about wanting to disappear. I'm torn between the pay it forward and burn it ideas..
