checked in at 5 this morning, officially sleeved
Nancy Rivers replied to heylinda's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on a successful surgery! Sorry to hear you are in pain. Don't be afraid to ask for more pain meds and keep walking since that seems to help. I hope you get feeling better soon. Thank you for posting. -
Job Interview...Should I mention I'm having surgery
Nancy Rivers replied to imawhodat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on getting an interview! That's a tough one. I've always found it best to be "honest" about things like this. I wouldn't necessarily say you are having bariatric surgery, but let them know that you would need a couple of weeks off due to needing a medical procedure done wouldn't be out of the question. That way they will know that you need the time off if they want you to start immediately. -

The Importance of feeding myself.

It's always a good idea to carry snacks for that just in case situation. I usually have a cooler in the car as well to keep water cool. I've been doing this for a few years due to being diabetic. Sounds like it should be a good thing to continue... -
You look awesome! Congrats on your loss and on running 2 5k's in one week! Wow!

There is a forum for those who want to loose (or have lost) 200+ pounds. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/forum/39-200-pounds/ There was some activity in that forum not too long ago. I hope that is helpful.

Nancy Rivers replied to imawhodat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Even though I am not going to Mexico to have my surgery, I really do appreciate Renee sharing her experience because it could happen ANYWHERE. I know from personal experience that if my sister (a rather knowledgeable nurse) had not stayed on top of certain things, my mom would have ended up dead thanks to a couple of incompetent doctors/nurses here in the USA. As someone who has not had the sleeve done yet, I am thankful for posts like this. I want to know the good AND the bad. It plays into my decision. It also reminds me of things that I do need to discuss with my surgeon. Let's face it, it's hard to remember everything that needs to be discussed, and having posts like this helps to jog my memory and talk to him about it. I'm sorry that Renee had such a hard time of things, but I am glad that she decided to share with us her very personal experience so that we could learn from it.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Check out the different areas of these forums - you'll find lots of information. Another place that I have found lots of of information is http://vsgfaq.wordpress.com/ I chose to have the sleeve instead of the bypass mainly because there are a lot fewer potential complications from the sleeve as well as no mal-absorption issues like there are with the bypass. As far as how long down - it varies depending on the person, but generally a couple of weeks off of work - depending on the type of work you do. I would be sure to ask your surgeon about it though since you are concerned about it. I am self pay, as well as several others on the boards. My insurance specifically excludes any form of weight loss. I haven't had the surgery yet, but I am definitely going to get it done. I am tired of being tired and watching my health go downhill. I'm just 38 years old and can barely stand for 5-10 minutes before breaking out in a sweat and can hardly walk 10 minutes. I've already had back surgery once and my knees are killing me. I know that loosing weight will help all of these things. I have tried loosing weight using a number of different diets over the years and none have worked. I know this surgery will work long term - having a smaller stomach will force me to make the lifestyle changes that I can't seem to make on my own.

The Goose Mans Journey
Nancy Rivers replied to WGOOSE2008@YAHOO.COM's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations on your surgery! I'm sure it will go fine. Keep in mind the reasons why you chose to have the surgery and that should help with the nerves. At least that's my theory.
