Congratulations on the first 20 pounds gone forever!
-
Thanks again. I think it will help me for journaling on my own before I am put on the program since it is hard for me to guess at how much I am eating (I am terrible with estimates). Some things are easier to weigh than measure - like patti was saying.

Congratulations on the weight loss!

Out of Pocket Poof!
Nancy Rivers replied to SusanSleevey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on making the commitment and getting a date. It is scary. This is a complete and total lifestyle change for the vast majority of us - and frankly that is rather frightening. But, you're doing the right thing. You are researching the procedure. You are here in the forums reading and participating (which is very helpful). You are also normal for having the feelings that you do. My best advice is just remember why you have decided to have this surgery. Write it down and post it on the fridge, bathroom mirror, or where ever so you see it every day. It really does help with the second thoughts that you are having. People have had leaks and have survived. If you should be so unlucky to have one, you will survive as well! -
HAPPY DANCE!! Surgery is Approved and Scheduled
Nancy Rivers replied to Jensharley's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats on getting approved and a date! That's great news. One thing that I am doing before the pre-op diet is trying to journal the food I am eating so I can get into that habit so I can track the Protein, carbs and calories post-op. Once I get a food scale, this will be a bit easier I think. I am also trying to eat "healthier" - I have given up my daily diet coke, have tried to stop eating fast food (I have slipped a couple of times), and I am trying to eat smaller portions 5 or 6 times a day. Many of these things are what my dietician suggested when I first met her. This weekend, I plan to try some of the recipes I found on here and on eggface's site as well as a "healthy" version of hamburger helper that I found online. I've been craving hamburger helper lately - but I know it has a lot of bad stuff in it, so want to try to cook my own from scratch and make it healthier with some of the tips I've learned on here. Of course, I'm always reading things on here and continuing to do my research. -
Congrats on getting a date! It is exciting isn't it?

Anyone ever use Dr. C. Joe Northup at Mercy in Fairfield, OH?
Nancy Rivers posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I have already attended his informational seminar last month and he seemed like a good doc. I've checked some of his credentials and stuff and it all seems good. I was just wondering if anyone else has had him do their surgery and what was your experience with him. Thanks! -
Congratulations! Wow, that is quite an achievement loosing a century!

Congratulations on both the weight loss and the new job! -
Thanks. I'm just trying to get into the habit of tracking my food - and that's hard to do if you don't measure it seems.

TB doesn't have to be in the lungs. That's just the most common form of it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuberculosis I would also get a second opinion just to be sure. It's rather rare to get it from WLS.

Meijer also has Dreamfields.
-
Thanks. I was just wondering how useful it was.

When I met with my surgeon, he mentioned that Realize has an online tool called Realize mySuccess that has a number of useful features to it. I'm wondering if anyone else has used this?

That's awesome! Congratulations!! -
Wow - thanks for posting that. I would check with your surgeon and PCP for sure. Since you posted this, I did a quick google search and found this article: http://journals.lww.com/infectdis/fulltext/2001/05000/tuberculosis_after_gastric_weight_loss_surgery__a.8.aspx It's a bit dry (and uses several technical terms), but it does say there is an increased risk of TB after gastric weight loss surgery.

My insurance might require me a 1 year diet!
Nancy Rivers replied to Ready4aNewLife's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow, that is a bummer. But as Tiffy said - use it to get ready for your life after the sleeve. It will be worth all the effort. -

"Honeymoon" stage
Nancy Rivers replied to To Be Thin 2011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Losing 2-3 pounds a week is great! And you have already lost 50 pounds! That is really awesome! Look at what you have already accomplished. It's easy to focus on the negative, but that won't help. All it will do is lead to depression and make it easier to fall back into your old, bad habits. So what you haven't lost 100 pounds yet. So what you aren't loosing 10 pounds a week. Is it really the end of the world? No. The fact is everyone will lose weight differently. It probably took you YEARS to get to your starting weight. It won't come off overnight. Focus on the positive and what you have already accomplished. Celebrate that victory! Revel in the fact that you have lost 50 pounds that will NEVER RETURN. Glory in the fact you are learning new healthier habits that you can follow for the rest of your life. Know the weight is coming off due to all of this hard work that you are putting into making your tool work for you. Sorry if that sounds harsh - especially from someone who hasn't been sleeved yet. But I know I'll probably end up saying some of the things you had in your post - and when I do, I hope someone will take the time to tell me this stuff to keep me on the straight and narrow as it were. -
How much do u stick to ur program
Nancy Rivers replied to samantha209's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I plan to stick to the plan 100%. I am self-pay and would never forgive myself if after paying all that money to have a tool put in place so that I can permanently loose the weight, then I don't follow through with it and end up wasting my hard earned money spent on the procedure and all the time/effort that I am going through to learn better habits. Yes, it will be difficult. Yes, it will be very tempting to fall back into my bad habits. But I can't. Not if I want to permanently loose this weight and get myself into better health. -
Just Getting Started
Nancy Rivers replied to meghuffman's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Meg and welcome to the forums. The psych eval is a standard procedure from the research that I have done. I wouldn't worry about it. I have mine coming up in 20 days - maybe I'll change my mind about it then. Congratulations on making the decision to have the sleeve done.
