    Official: FitBit Thread

It has some good reviews. My problem with "pedometers" is they never stay on my waistband - or if they do, they don't actually count my steps. It sounds like this you can wear in other places and it still counts your steps too. Just wondering how it counts your steps if you have it in your pocket - or bra.

Wow, is it really that close?

So, I had the psych eval today and I think she will recommend me for the surgery - at least that what it sounded like. There was an interview and then I had to take two questionnaire tests. But based on the interview she said that she would recommend me. I also found out that my referral letter from my PCP still had not been received. So, I spent the afternoon working on that. Made about 4 phone calls to my PCP's office and finally got them to fax me the letter along with 5 year weight history. I just faxed it over to my surgeon and called to make sure they received it which they did. YAY! One more item off my checklist! Just the EGD now on Friday. I'm getting nervous about that for some reason. I know that he's just basically going to knock me out and put a scope down my throat to get a visual, but still, I'm getting nervous. How weird is that? Then on Monday I get to sign the consent forms, do the pre-op teaching and get the "package" for the pre-op diet that will have to start the next day as that will then be 2 weeks before the surgery. In just 3 short weeks from today, I will be undergoing the surgery and starting my new life! Wow - this is going quick!
  10. I've been gone for a week - I was on vacation doing some genealogy research. I had an absolute blast doing it. The hardest part was the 3 block walk from the hotel to the library as I am not used to walking anywhere. But by the time I was leaving yesterday, I was getting pretty good at it. Not nearly as winded. I didn't walk today as I was driving but I actually am MISSING the walking. Wow - I never thought I would say that. I didn't do so great eating last week - I just got too tied up into the research and managed only Breakfast each day (fruit and bagel - they didn't provide any Protein nor did I think to pack any). I know my body went into starvation mode, but I also wasn't hungry. Good thing I wasn't on any special diet. Now I need to get back into "the groove" as it were and prepare for the pre-diet. On my drive back yesterday and today I thought a lot about the research that I had done and what I still want to do. I really want to go back again next year, and expand my researching into different areas in different repositories. I thought of how much I would enjoy that. Then I realized how much MORE I will enjoy it not huffing and puffing from being winded by having all this extra weight. By this time next year, I hope to be down at least 60 pounds, and in a regular exercise program increasing my stamina, etc. What a world of difference that will make. I'll weigh myself in the morning just to see how much "damage" I did with the bad habits last week. Next year, I will definitely have a different plan and make sure that I eat appropriately.

What made you choose the sleeve?

I had been thinking about the bypass as well. However, when I spoke with the Dr's office and the person who checks the insurance, she suggested the sleeve. Since I am self-pay, the sleeve is cheaper and she said that a lot of people op for that instead of the bypass who are self-pay, but of course the decision was mine. I asked about the ability to loose the weight successfully and she told me that in that particular doctor's practice, the sleevers lose just as much as the bypass patients. I then started checking it out and found out there were a lot less chances of getting various complications with the sleeve. Also, there is no re-arrangement of the insides, so there isn't the mal-absorption issue. Those two things really helped to make up my mind about it.

    Pre-Op liquid diet

Different people have different experiences with it. I will be starting it next week, so I'll find out then. I do know that I get to eat some "real" food along with the liquid diet. I was told (because I asked about it) that I would be allowed to choose 6 different foods from a list they will give me. I'll find out Monday what that list is. It could just be Jello, but I think it will also include salads since a couple of other people at the last support group meeting indicated they could have a salad each day. I think that will help with the diet. I know from the past that a pure liquid diet won't work for me because I still want to actually EAT. The dietician said that is why they allow certain foods to be used while on the pre-op diet. Several people on the boards have said that the pre-op diet was torture for them. I really hope it's not like that.
  19. Welcome to the site and congratulations on getting a date for your new life to begin! You'll find a lot of support on here as well as a lot of information if you check out all the areas of the forums. I'll be starting my 2 week liquid pre-op diet next week. I can't wait!

    getting ready

Welcome to the forums and congratulations on making the decision.
  21. So on my drive today, I got thinking about how much more research I want to do and in the different places I need to do it in. Then I thought about how much I will enjoy it. Then I realized that I will end up enjoying it even more because I will no longer be this heavy when I do the research next year!

  22. My train leaves at 9:45 am, I'll arrive in Providence about 10:40 or so. Then I'm driving back to State College, PA for another stay at the Hampton Inn there before driving the rest of the way back to Cinci on Monday. Tuesday is my appointment with the shrink about my surgery on July 12. Busy couple of days ahead...

  23. Do I really have to go back to "reality" next week? I wanna stay and keep researching!

  24. Just 2 days left for research. :( I'm running out of time. I need another week at New England Historic Genealogical Society! There's still way too many things on my "to do" list! Time to make some cuts I suppose... We have the "closing" banquet tonight - I'm tempted to skip it and keep researching!

  25. Another late night - I finished a microfilm at 10pm and decided to wait until tomorrow to start a new one. Then I talked for 35 minutes with Julie - the genealogist on the 4th floor. Amazing how LITTLE genealogy we actually talked about. :)
