    So thirsty

Have you tried warm water or room temperature liquids? For many, the temperature of the liquid plays a huge part of the toleration so soon after surgery. Many report that warm or room temperature works best for them. I was the opposite and ice cold water worked best for me - but evidently that's not working for you. If water doesn't work, then try broth - sometimes that goes down better than plain water too. You can also try flavoring the water - sometimes that helps. Also, remember to sip - not gulp.

    Surgery tmrw

Congrats! As soon as you are able and the nurses let you, get up and start walking around. That is the best advice I can give for getting rid of the gas and to start feeling better. Make sure you use your pain pump right before getting out of bed as that will make it more tolerable. Get plenty of rest too, but movement is essential.

    Peein ALOT!

I was told not to take anything for the diarrehea after surgery. Mine lasted just about a week or so - until I was eating more purred foods than liquid only. Peeing more frequently can happen especially if you are drinking more fluids than you were before. You should be able to take Tylenol for the headache. However I would contact your surgeon with your concerns and ask his advice.

Low carb/no carb alternative to fav foods?

Dreamfields makes pasta that is "diabetic friendly" - low carb. I've used it several times and I have really liked it.
  7. You should be aiming for at least 64oz of water a day (it takes a while to get there). Anything that is liquid at room temperature is fair game for the full liquids stage. You could even thin things like cream of wheat and pudding if it is too thick. Your surgeon or dietician should have given you some guidelines for what they want you to be eating.

    Recliner or couch?

I didn't have a couch available - only a bed and recliner. I generally would have to sit in the recliner after laying down for a couple of hours. After an hour in the recliner, then I could go back to the bed.
  9. I know I am not in a stall yet. However, I also know that I'm approaching one. Today is my "official" weigh in day. Since Thursday of last week, I have lost a grand total of 0.2 pounds! I had weighed in on Thursday because I had a support group meeting that night and wanted the "up-to-date" weight loss number. From Tuesday to Thursday last week, I had lost a couple of pounds. I know - it is still a loss and I should be happy about that - and I am. However, the weight loss is really slowing down now. I also know the stall is inevitable and completely normal. I'm just disappointed that it is happening so soon - after all, I was just sleeved 2 weeks ago today. I was hoping the "3 week stall" would happen a couple of weeks later for me. Last Tuesday, TOM visited, but I still lost weight despite his visitation. I figured it was because the visit was so close to my surgery the reason why I continued to lose. On the other hand, I wonder if TOM might be playing into my slowing loss right now. Sorry, I just needed to vent.

  13. So I tell my mom that I'm moving and of course she doesn't think that's the right thing for me. Never mind the fact that I am almost NEVER in Michigan anymore because of work - almost always in Cincinnati. But yet, according to her, I should not move to Cincinnati and is giving me grief over it. Why do I even bother?

    I'm home too!

So sorry you had to go back to get the catheter. I had one in the hospital and they would not release me until I peed without it. I didn't feel like I had to, but the nurse said to try, and when I did, well, I did go. Hopefully you can get the catheter out soon.

Need to take vitamins rest of life?

I'm having to take a multi-vitamin and a calcium tablet - both twice a day. No B12. It had just surprised me that I would need to take these at the time. The only vitamin that I was deficient in before surgery was D - everything else was in the normal range.

    Risks vs. Rewards

That's a very common concern of those with children. Heck, it's a common concern even for those of us who don't have children! I always have "issues" waking up from anesthesia - I'll wake up, but not remember a thing for another hour or two afterwards (and I'll go back to sleep during that time). My surgeon did come to see me after the surgery, but it was during this time and I have no memory of him being there. I found that out the next day when I was more coherent and he came to see me again. While there is a very slim chance of not waking up, it is most likely not going to happen. If you have had to be "put under" for any reason before, it's a very similar experience as far as waking up goes. I too was more afraid of the surgery than the possible complications. But everything worked out well. I also talked to my surgeon about my fears so he was aware of them.
  23. I had no pain after I came home. I had no need to fill the prescription for the pain medication. I do have diabetes, but that has become easier to control.

    Hospital Stay

Just one night for me. That's what my surgeon told me.
  25. I got 30 minutes of exercise in today - walking in place while watching TV. It's been way too hot outside to walk and I HATE going to the malls. So, this is my compromise. It's the first day since my surgery that I have purposefully "exercised" - thanks for the motivation LMD! Got all of my Protein and Water in already - still have about 4 hours before bed. I'm sure I'll get more water in yet today.
