That's great weight loss! Congratulations! That was nice of your doctor to give you pictures of your surgery. I think that would be cool to see - but then I am kinda weird like that. Scrapbookers always love pictures - I don't scrapbook, but do love pictures (I think it's the genealogist in me actually). My first post-op appointment is today. I hope it goes well.

Should I rent a recliner
Nancy Rivers replied to Toyia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I slept in the bed, but after a couple of hours I would wake up and be uncomfortable. I would get up (no problems there) and sit in the recliner for about an hour and then I could go back to bed for a couple more hours. This lasted about 5 days before I could sleep the whole night through in bed. I couldn't really sleep in the recliner (I'm a side sleeper who really needs to be horizontal in order to really sleep), so that was my compromise. -
My surgery was the July 12 - a week before you. I also had no post-op pain or other problems. They wouldn't let me out of bed though until the nurse could walk with me once I reached my room. I'm going for my 2 week followup appointment tomorrow.

Quite honestly, I'm experiencing the same thing. I haven't tried salads yet, but I actually had a whole cup of bean & ham soup today in one setting (and I didn't puree it like I was supposed to). I've never liked bean soup before, but this didn't taste too bad, and I was shocked that I was able to eat the whole cup. I even added a scoop of protein powder to it, and still was able to eat everything. Yeah, I was full at the end, but still shocking. I've also had "mini" hamburgers this week - about 2-3 ounces of beef made into a patty and grilled. I'm just supposed to do purees right now, but I'm eating solids. I wonder though if it will come back to "haunt" me later. I hope not.

Ok, I've had 2 big "rolls" of fat - one above my waist (below breasts) and one below my waist. Today I just realized that the roll of fat above my waist is SMALLER! When I look down my front, I used to just see that roll of fat above my waist. Now, I can barely see it (past my breasts that is) and very obviously see the roll of fat below my waist. Strange I know to be excited to see a roll of fat - but I am! I never thought I would see a difference in my body so quickly! Woo Hoo!!!!

Sleeved on July 26th
Nancy Rivers replied to Papa Jack's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow, home the same day! That's great. Glad to hear things are going well for you. Sounds like you are off to a great start. Just remember to concentrate on getting the liquids in at this point - don't worry about the protein yet. It will be rough for a few days, but each day it will get better. -
Working on packing up my stuff at Pam's so I can move this weekend. Not much to pack - but it's taking me a while as I'm not "pushing" myself. Can't believe that in less than 48 hours, I will have the keys to my new apartment.

Reality sinking in

Welcome to the forums! You'll do great on Monday. I agree, it's so hot outside that it's hard to get a walk in. However, what I have been doing is walking in place while watching TV. It does help - and then I have the air conditioning. I absolutely HATE malls - so I don't go to them. I have walked around stores before - usually when I am shopping, I'll just add in some extra walking around to get the exercise in. -
It's time to say hello
Nancy Rivers replied to longer-life's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome and congrats on making the decision. I hope the insurance will cover it for you, but if not, definitely self-pay. It is so worth it! -

When will I start seeing the difference?
Nancy Rivers replied to Karenx0's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome to the forums! It was a couple of friends of mine that pointed out that I looked slimmer in my stomach area before I even realized it. It wasn't until about 3 days later that I actually saw the difference myself - not much, but I did see a small difference. I think we are probably the last ones to actually see our bodies differently. You've probably noticed that your clothes are starting to fit a little differently - even if you don't see it yourself. Your body is changing and it takes a while for us to realize that. Keep your chin up, it will happen. Maybe not as fast as we would like, but it will happen. -
Welcome and congrats on the decision! Feel free to ask anything!

That's my exact situation. My PCP in Michigan did the labs that my surgeon (in Ohio) wanted and insurance covered it to the extent that they cover the labs. My insurance discounted it, and the remainder counts against my deductible for the year (around $1500 before insurance - after only about $250 for the blood work alone). That's how they treat ANY labs that my PCP orders - so it wasn't specific to the WLS. So, I don't know how helpful that was, but that was my experience.

July 27th Sleevers IT IS SHOWTIME!!!
Nancy Rivers replied to boots1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums

My first egg was eggbeaters at a restaurant - that was a mistake. It was so greasy that I couldn't take 2 bites. However, since then, I have had egg beaters cooked in the microwave about 30-45 seconds. I've even taken to tossing in a pinch of shredded cheese. I've also had soft boiled eggs made into egg salad with just a tablespoon of low fat Miracle Whip. Very yummy. Poached eggs are simply "fried" eggs made in Water. I used to work at a restaurant and would see the cooks making poached eggs all the time and that's how they did it. When the egg was done - it looked like any other fried egg - but maybe a bit "fluffier". I haven't tried one yet, but plan to next week (after I'm in my new apartment).

Dear Food.... I miss you
Nancy Rivers replied to Bandme1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The subway ads have been appetizing haven't they? It's the only ad on TV right now for food that actually appeals to me. All the rest seem to turn my stomach. Although, the Olive Garden ones that feature their soup & salad are also starting to appeal to me. You'll get through this. Perhaps making a snow cone or smoothie with larger chunks of ice that you "chew on" will help with the wanting to crunch something. I know it's not the same, but it could potentially help and wouldn't derail you. -
If the gas hasn't come yet....
Nancy Rivers replied to CCinINdiana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're probably out of the woods. I never had gas "pain". I did have a pressure from gas - but nothing I considered painful.
