    Help Me Decide!

Hmmm.....I REALLY don't know what I would do if I had it to do over again. I chose the plication because I didn't want half my stomach gone with the sleeve, plus I was concerned about leaks, which are less likely with the plication. I didn't want to go with the band because I didn't want to deal with fills, plus my aunt almost died from a leak from necrosis around the band. And I didn't want to do the gastric bypass because, as a nurse, I've seen a few people who are dealing with nutritional issues and anemia that are possibly related to it. So! I chose the plication. However, now that I am a year and a half out from surgery and have only lost about 45 pounds and feel most of my restriction is gone (altough I still can't eat as much as I used to), I am not so sure I would choose the plication again, either. I guess if I was FORCED to decide (as if that would happen!), I might choose the sleeve. Good luck with your decision. It has to be a personal one, so please do lots of research and thinking before you decide which one is right for you. Good luck on your journey!
  2. In regards to whether or not to tell others about your surgery or not, I only told my immediate family and one friend. However, I regret telling a couple of those people because now that my weight loss has come to a stand still after only about 45 lbs lost, I feel like they are watching me and judging me a failure because I'm not losing any more weight. My personal recommendation is to tell as few people as possible. But that's just me....

That's all I have to say about that....

    I'm losing my boobs! :(

You mean my boobs will be sagging so low, I can hide them in my jeans?? Oh no!
  5. But don't give up hope! Everyone is different!
  6. Well, I guess I'd be one of the "not so successful" old timers. I am 16 months out from surgery and have only lost about 48 lbs. I reached a point early on where I could eat almost normal amounts again and I slowly started letting the old habits slip back in. I feel like I'm back where I started with the poor lifestyle habits, just 48 lbs lighter. I still have over a 100 to go. I think the advice that the sleeve plication may not be the right surgery if you have more than 100 lbs to lose might be the right advice. I don't know. It's probably just me. I'm disappointed but I'm trying not to think about the money lost and try to remind myself that I haven't gained that 48 lbs back and I still can't eat the amount I used to before surgery. So, that's a plus! Lately I have been trying to get back into excersizing and that has made me feel better physcially. Hopefully it will start showing up on the scale. I'm trying to look at my weight loss as a slow, lifelong process. If I only lose 10 lbs this year, that's o.k., if I can just keep going down, then I'm always better off than I was before. But thanks for your nice comments about us old timers, H21
  7. Has everyone noticed how many members we have now? Over 1100! It's down near the bottom of the page on the right hand side. I've watched that number go up almost every day! Cool!
  8. It was probably a Scopalamine patch
  9. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!
  10. I'll let Tijuana Plication answer that. I really don't know that much about it.
  11. I always thought it was strange that everyone else thinks the plication has too many complications. I CHOSE the plication because my research showed it had the LEAST complications of all the weight loss surgeries!
  12. No, I'm probably not going to get a revision as I really cant afford it after paying for the plication out of pocket. I'm kind of bummed out about the whole thing, though. It feels like I'm back to fighting for every pound. Good luck to you if you get the duodenal switch!

    I think I'm done losing.

    Good, positive attitude!
  14. I just looked at those pictures again in full screen mode and it looks like I'm drunk in the second one! Ha Ha! I think I was in the middle of a blink.

    I think I'm done losing.

Hang in there! Sometimes we take steps back only to be able to move forward with more motivation again. I'm trying not to get too discouraged, either. My restriction is pretty much gone now, so it's up to me and my lifestyle changes...if I could just make them!! I did work out today, though!

    I think I'm done losing.

Thank you for your comment. I have had some major struggles this first year after WLS and have only lost about 53 lbs. Your comment made me realize that I'm not "done" losing weight and that just because I didn't lose 100 lbs in the first year, doesn't mean I'm a failure and that I can't lose more weight in the upcoming years.

    Good for you!
  18. For those of you who have had the Plication surgery, how are you all feeling about it so far? No matter what stage you're in or how far along you are!

    Post Op Diet Reminder

Definitely call your doctor! And you might also consider getting some IV fluids if you think you're really that dehydrated. What I would also do is act like you got the plication all over again and start with clear liquids for several days, then full liquids like cream soups, then advance to a soft diet like mashed potatos, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, etc. Then advance to full diet slowly. But make sure you are drinking protein shakes until you can get in enough protein in through your diet. But whatever your doctor advises is always best. Hang in there! I'm worried about you. Keep us posted.
  21. Hang in there, LMom, It WILL get better! It'll all be worth it. One day at a time and drink those fluids! And get that protein in! You know the drill!

    Will Everyone Know?

Oh, yes, I definitely think you'll be able to keep it a secret. People will probably notice that you're both losing weight, but you can just tell them that you've been dieting and exercising and it's paying off. In fact I recommend not telling too many people because they will watch you like a hawk and judge whatever you put in your mouth AND, if you're weight loss stalls or slows down, they'll wonder what you're doing wrong, since of course everyone knows that people lose TONS of weight rapidly with weight loss surgery so it must by your fault if that's not happening. At least that has been my experience. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.
  23. Yes, it is normal not to have any hunger initially, mainly because of the trauma and swelling in our stomachs. Make sure to keep those fluids and protein shakes up, though. It's very easy to get dehydrated this early on, plus you need the protein to help with healing and to keep from getting weak. In regards to not losing weight, don't panic. Most people gain several pounds after surgery because of water retention from the IV fluid they give you. It can take up to a week or more to lose that. Also your body is in shock from the drastic change in nutritional intake, surgery, etc. Don't worry, the weight will start dropping off soon. Hang in there and KUP!
  24. Are you having the barium swallow to determine what's going on with your lack of restriction? PLEASE let me know what the results are. Good luck!
  25. Thanks for the update. I'm glad you are doing so well.
