  1. I think that the stomach just naturally reacts to stress that way. When I was in college, during exam times I always had to be very careful what I would eat otherwise I'd have crippling indigestion .... from bananas even! My whole GI system gets messed up if I'm under too much stress. I even have a Rx for it if it gets really bad (Donnatal). As a matter of fact, sometimes I don't even know I'm stressed until my stomach starts acting up! BTW, the practice of Yoga is awesome in teaching you ways to relieve stress. It's all about BREATHING! And yes, it's just that easy.
  2. I eat whatever I want (within reason) and don't consider myself to be dieting at all. I am simply eating much less. I just had a quesadilla for lunch! ... well 1/3 of one anyway!
  3. If you're 'gassy' then take some Gas-X 4x a day for a few days...that should help immensely!
  4. My guess would be that it's carb hunger! Oatmeal is considered to be a 'good' carb, but it still makes me very hungry unless I make it with milk and add butter (the fat helps the carbs digest more slowly). Maybe have it with 1/2 of your shake next time to boost the protein...that might help.
  5. I think you'll find that your 'dips' will go away completely. Remember, you'll be digesting food at a much slower rate and insulin will be released in a steady stream, rather than in a surge...which is the cause for hypoglycemia, right? I have been "borderline" hypoglycemic since I was 16 and managed it by eating constantly! LOL I eat 5x a day now but they are small meals....more like Snacks...and I haven't had one episode since being banded. I wish you the best of luck!
  6. My doc says you can drink anything before, and 1/2 hour after. The reason for this is so that your solid food doesn't become liquified and go thru the band too early....if it does, you'll be hungry soon after! It also makes stretching of your pouch more possible and that's not good. HTH!
  7. Hi Fred! ...You won't be "Big Fred" much longer!!! :welcome2: You've stumbled onto a great site for lapband info....it's all here. Make yourself comfy and stay awhile!
  8. Don't worry about that!! I'd much rather be at the gym! Tonight I will punish myself appropriately! Trainer (lwr body) + abs + cardio! Thursday is my tough night...and I have to do it hungover!! I deserve it!
  9. Good Morning Everyone! Not much going on with me -- Went out two nights in a row and drank wine. Ugh. I really don't enjoy it like I used to. (Listening, Sara?) I don't even know why I do....mostly out of habit, I think. Go out with friends = have a glass (or two or three) of wine. It just messes me up for the whole next day no matter if I have one or three. Note to self: Stop drinking, dammit! But back in the day it was nothing for me to have 10 drinks/week. Now I have about 4/month -- big improvement. Baby steps. And yes, I missed a workout last night but already have planned to make it up on Friday. Judy - I'm so sorry about your boo-boos! :cry Is your bike ok?? LOL TracyK - I think you look darling in your swimsuit and I think Kat is right. Shoulders back and strut, girl, strut! The water will feel great! BTW - I only got 3 bracelets made over the weekend and I need to make 11....so they're coming...eventually! :phanvan Josiebies, Chica Chula and SchexyMomma and I have made plans to meet for dinner again next Tuesday! I can't wait! They're such sweet girls -- you'd love them too. Ya'll have a great day. I've been making these graphic-intense powerpoint slides for days now... my eyes are going buggy ...but I gotta get back at it.
  10. Q: How many Menopausal women does it take to change a light bulb? A: One! ONLY ONE!!!! And do you know WHY? Because no one else in this house knows HOW to change a light bulb! They don't even know that the bulb is BURNED OUT!! They would sit in the dark for THREE DAYS before they figured it out. And, once they figured it out, they wouldn't be able to find the#&%!* light bulbs despite the fact that they've been in the SAME CABINET for the past 17 YEARS! But if they did, by some miracle of God, actually find them, 2 DAYS LATER, the chair they dragged to stand on to change the STUPID light bulb would STILL BE IN THE SAME SPOT!!!!! AND UNDERNEATH IT WOULD BE THE WRAPPER THE FREAKING LIGHT BULBS CAME IN!!! BECAUSE NO ONE EVER CARRIES OUT THE GARBAGE!!!! IT'S A WONDER WE HAVEN'T ALL SUFFOCATED FROM THE PILES OF GARBAGE THAT ARE A FOOT DEEP THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE HOUSE!! IT WOULD TAKE AN ARMY TO CLEAN THIS PLACE! AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON WHO CHANGES THE TOILET PAPER ROLL !! . . . I'm sorry. What was the question?
  11. JUDY Did you see my info about Auction Sniper.com?? Here's a repeat: Judy - I'm the Queen of Ebay ... have you heard of auction "sniping"? There are services out there that will monitor your auction and swoop in in the last 7 seconds with your bid. Very valuable service. Go to Auction Sniper: eBay Sniper and eBay Bidding snipe, bid sniping for eBay BTW - My feedback score is 404, and I've left feedback on 558 transactions. I win! :tea:
  12. Hey, Laura-- I know how to settle this once and for all. What's your feedback score?? LOL
  13. Laura -- It's a whole new ball game now....getting used to throwing food AWAY is not easy to do!!! But it sure feels good once it's done! I do soooo much better with my eating at home where there is very little junk food then when I'm at work...where a botomless stash of Peanut M&M's is about 10' away. I do find that if I can tough it thru about 1-2 days of not eating any then after that they are easier to resist (generally). And...No....I AM THE EBAY QUEEN!
  14. I lost my long post earlier today too. Seems to happen when I hit the backspace key ?? Judy - I'm the Queen of Ebay ... have you heard of auction "sniping"? There are services out there that will monitor your auction and swoop in in the last 7 seconds with your bid. Very valuable service. Go to Auction Sniper: eBay Sniper and eBay Bidding snipe, bid sniping for eBay We were out with my step-daughter and her husband last night and I got stuck on some fish too....I know it was because I was talking and not paying attention. Started sliming like crazy and had to leave the table. They don't know I'm banded so it's really embarrassing! SD was practically in mid-sentence when I had to leave. Going out again tonight with girlfriends and I am determined to be more diligent. Just when I think I need another fill something like that happens and I think, "No, I think I'll hang here for awhile." Thanks, Tracy!! Sara - It is so good to have you back posting again! We missed you!
  15. Judy? Did the kids tie you up and set you afire?
  16. I am sure that a note from your GP will suffice. No, I haven't encountered a problem like that. I work in a much more relaxed atmosphere....thank gawd!....I'm nibbling on something 3-4x a day!
  17. I'm sitting here having one of those Bumble Bee tuna salad with crackers lunch kit thingies....these are GOOD! And just the right size! Get some to keep on hand! 320 calories. Could be better on Protein, but good for when you're on the run! They have a fat free version I might try...but generally I don't do fat-free anything! LOL Laura - I think Quaker Oats makes a 'weight control' version that's lower in sugar...made with Splenda. I know you don't like artificial sweeteners (right?) but you should give them a try....they're quite good. But you're right...120 calories is not much. It's the insulin spike caused by the sugar that is the culprit...not necessarily the calories from the sugar. Y'know? I went to the gym at lunch to make up for the workout I missed last night. Tonight I'm off. Back to the grind........
  18. Oh, that WAS a great article!....especially because it verified that I am eating the right foods. I do, however, eat whole-milk cottage cheese rather than low-fat....and I'm not big on legumes of any kind. I am liking hummus lately! I was also glad to see that he is busting the myth that you get high cholesterol from eating foods high in cholesterol (like eggs)...which has been shown to be false. I need to eat more oatmeal. That article has made me hungry...I better go to lunch!
  19. LOL.... I was testing you!! We're all gonna have our own nicknames before long and yours should definitely be "Ol' Eagle Eye". Thanks for noticing  I've been waiting for that number for quite a while!
  20. YOU WON'T BE SORRY!!! Good luck!!!
  21. Oh, that's great news Nana!!! I know you'll do great! Let us know! Did you have fun at lunch? I'll just bet you did!
  22. I just splurged for the Tanita Body Scanner (or something like that) with a pretty price tag of $100. It gives you a reading for weight, body fat percentage, water weight percentage, and a bit more. The body fat percentage has got to be WAY off...says I'm at 44% BF??? I don't think so!! The charts tell me I should be about 31%...that's a huge difference. I like the fact that it weighs in tenths of a pound. So I'd say any scale that does that would be your best bet. this $100 contraption is really a bit much!!
  23. Just think of it as an adventure!! I love the sensations of flying and looking out the windows is really cool. You DO have a window seat, don't you??? The airports can be really big...I live in Houston and we have one of the largest....but everything is very well marked--you'll do just fine. Relax and enjoy the adventure!
  24. Oh, not me! I am addicted to the scale but I don't stress over it....that's the difference! I actually weight twice/day....morning and night. I even went out and upgraded my scale recently! I just don't freak out when I have a 1-3# gain. I understand those are normal.
  25. No, Leslie switched me to Omnipaque and Dr. Spivak was nowhere in sight! Actually when I found out my 1st fill had disappeared I was the one who said, "Ok, so is this when we switch to Omnipaque?"...and Leslie jumped on it. I had to sign an informed consent though. Just keep going for fills until you feel restriction! I've had 3 and sometimes feel like I'm ready for my 4th....but then I get stuck and think, "NO! I'm just fine!" I'm losing about 1# a week or maybe a little less...but not many foods I can't eat and that is a good thing. I'll coast for awhile. Don't fret yet!! You're doing fine...it just takes awhile. Are you exercising??? (They don't call me the Gym Nazi for nothing!)
