Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters
TerriDoodle replied to TracyinKS's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm sitting here having one of those Bumble Bee tuna salad with crackers lunch kit thingies....these are GOOD! And just the right size! Get some to keep on hand! 320 calories. Could be better on Protein, but good for when you're on the run! They have a fat free version I might try...but generally I don't do fat-free anything! LOL Laura - I think Quaker Oats makes a 'weight control' version that's lower in sugar...made with Splenda. I know you don't like artificial sweeteners (right?) but you should give them a try....they're quite good. But you're right...120 calories is not much. It's the insulin spike caused by the sugar that is the culprit...not necessarily the calories from the sugar. Y'know? I went to the gym at lunch to make up for the workout I missed last night. Tonight I'm off. Back to the grind........ -

Oh, that WAS a great article!....especially because it verified that I am eating the right foods. I do, however, eat whole-milk cottage cheese rather than low-fat....and I'm not big on legumes of any kind. I am liking hummus lately! I was also glad to see that he is busting the myth that you get high cholesterol from eating foods high in cholesterol (like eggs)...which has been shown to be false. I need to eat more oatmeal. That article has made me hungry...I better go to lunch! -

LOL.... I was testing you!! We're all gonna have our own nicknames before long and yours should definitely be "Ol' Eagle Eye". Thanks for noticing  I've been waiting for that number for quite a while! -
YOU WON'T BE SORRY!!! Good luck!!!

Surgery back on for tomorrow -- 8/7/07
TerriDoodle replied to NanaRenan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh, that's great news Nana!!! I know you'll do great! Let us know! Did you have fun at lunch? I'll just bet you did! -
I just splurged for the Tanita Body Scanner (or something like that) with a pretty price tag of $100. It gives you a reading for weight, body fat percentage, water weight percentage, and a bit more. The body fat percentage has got to be WAY off...says I'm at 44% BF??? I don't think so!! The charts tell me I should be about 31%...that's a huge difference. I like the fact that it weighs in tenths of a pound. So I'd say any scale that does that would be your best bet. this $100 contraption is really a bit much!!

Just think of it as an adventure!! I love the sensations of flying and looking out the windows is really cool. You DO have a window seat, don't you??? The airports can be really big...I live in Houston and we have one of the largest....but everything is very well marked--you'll do just fine. Relax and enjoy the adventure!
-
Oh, not me! I am addicted to the scale but I don't stress over it....that's the difference! I actually weight twice/day....morning and night. I even went out and upgraded my scale recently! I just don't freak out when I have a 1-3# gain. I understand those are normal.

No, Leslie switched me to Omnipaque and Dr. Spivak was nowhere in sight! Actually when I found out my 1st fill had disappeared I was the one who said, "Ok, so is this when we switch to Omnipaque?"...and Leslie jumped on it. I had to sign an informed consent though. Just keep going for fills until you feel restriction! I've had 3 and sometimes feel like I'm ready for my 4th....but then I get stuck and think, "NO! I'm just fine!" I'm losing about 1# a week or maybe a little less...but not many foods I can't eat and that is a good thing. I'll coast for awhile. Don't fret yet!! You're doing fine...it just takes awhile. Are you exercising??? (They don't call me the Gym Nazi for nothing!)

Hi Schexy!! Gosh, you're only now getting your first fill?? I find fills to be very strange things and I think everyone is different (of course!!). The best advice I can give you is to follow the rules very carefully about chewing well and taking bites slowly at every meal for the next couple of weeks....and stay away from risky foods. It is very easy to irritate your band right now and if you do that one day you make things even worse for the next couple of days...and you irritate it again...making things worse yet again....etc. Comprende? Just law low and follow the bandster rules to a T for the next couple of weeks! Laura - I thiink that the first few fills can be kinda strange like that. The measurements aren't really precise because of air in the tubing, a new band, some fluid 'leaking' out, etc. The numbers aren't really important anyway, right? It's the amount of restriction that you're feeling that really matters. So don't sweat it too much and leave the worry about the numbers to the doctors. I'm REALLY happy to hear you had such a great loss!!! That feels wonderful, doesn't it?? Hey, how's your dog walking going?? Gym Nazi at work. MsJen - Sounds like someone has a serious crush on you!! Is he hot?? Jenn - I think your plan sounds wonderful!! So you'd still have to work at the pizza place...or not? Too early to tell? I didn't make it to the gym tonight. I was sooooooo tired after taking my mom to two doctor appts. (in 99 degree heat), then to work for 2 hours, then stuck in traffic for an hour after... I was falling asleep at the wheel!! So I came home and went straight to bed for almost 2 hours! Anyway....I hate missing a workout 'cause then it makes me feel like ....what?.... like uh.... a loser or something. I fear that lazy monster is raising his head again and this is the beginning of that slippery slope of missing workouts here and there. So then I obsess about my schedule and trying to figure out how/when I'll be able to make it up. I'll go at lunch tomorrow to make this one up 'cause it's only an upper body workout and I shouldn't get too terribly sweaty. But it's an interesting conversation in my head... so many voices bickering over missing just one or two workouts. Is that good or bad? I just DON"T WANT TO GIVE MYSELF THAT PERMISSION to miss. That just can't be one of my options. But am I placing too much stress on myself over it? I wonder. But it feels right to do it this way. Not wanting to repeat bad history and all that. So, Violets... please don't ever say to me, "Oh, Terry....it's okay to miss one every so often...blah blah blah." Just say, "So when are you planning to make it up, Terry? You don't really want to fall short of your goals, do you? Watch out for that slippery slope, Terry! Remember, Terry....just like brushing your teeth!" OK? That's what I need from you guys. Keep kicking me forward. Love you guys. -
HEY!!! That's cheating! LOL!

Oh, that's weird!! I DO look taller!! I've been looking and looking at those pics to try to figure out WHY and I can't explain it. Maybe I'm just slouching in the first one? Actually, I just measured my height last night because my daughter has caught up with me (she's all of 13)....and we're both exactly 5'6-1/2"....except she weighs 124# Wow. I just thought of something. My lowest adult weight was 126# (for a brief moment when I was 20)....and I sure as hell wasn't wearing a size 2 like she is!! What is UP with that?? And I sure as hell never "saw myself" as thin as she is. That's wild. Anyway, thanks for the kudos you guys. I see it in my neck, waist and my uh...bottom. Got a long way to go, though. Sara -- great news about Dave. What a relief. Things could be so much worse. My ex-inlaws used to grate on my nerves something fierce. It was real bad for 7 years...until the NEXT child got married. Then that girl took the heat off of me...and I was on the "good list" for some reason. Whackos. Still are. They treat my children like trash. Oh nevermind...don't get me started. Just suffice to say that I'm a big believer in just staying away from toxic people. Who needs that in their lives? It's too short. Also very glad to hear that you went to see the doctor for some of 'mother's little helpers'....better living thru chemistry! Haydee -- So glad you're back! We wanna see pics!!! We got rid of the rain while you were gone. Let's get together soon! Judy - It sounds like you and DH had a day to remember!! I'm happy for you both! Behind every good man.... My neighbor behind us is screaming at the top of his lungs out in his back yard!! The only thing is that he's Lebanese or something and I can't understand a word he is saying! I don't know if he's on the phone or screaming at his meek little wife...but I'm going to call the cops in about 5 minutes. Ah, life in the big city. It sucks. -

Weird. I could have sworn I posted this earlier but I guess it didn't take. Anyway... here I am at 4 months & down 25#! Sorry about the lack of makeup (yuck)... I was in a hurry. The "muscle" pose is more of a before picture for uh...later on...when there's an after photo!? I can hope, can't i? -
Help My husband is forcing me to eat.
TerriDoodle replied to sarabluebell's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have a question: How much ARE you eating? What is a typical/ideal day for you? I heard you say: "I don't eat all day until he gets home" (not healthy) "I eat brothy soups so it looks like I'm eating a lot" (uh, where's the Protein?) "I eat more than I should and then throw up. Not PB"..(like bulimics do?) I get from your post that he has a right to be concerned. Sure, he might be handling it entirely wrong, but his worry seems justified in the little information you've given us. -
Large knot in back/chest near port/band
TerriDoodle replied to OutbackJo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, everyone is different, but most people say they are feeling much better by day 5 or 6. The port area is definitely the one that lingers...usually for 3-4 weeks before that pain is all gone. But yours sounds more intense so I'd say give your doctor a call. He's really the only one who can tell you what's going on. I hope you're feeling much better soon! -

I have one to add today... - to have a 'personal trainer' and here him tell me that I am progressing "perfectly" (I never thought I'd ever have a personal trainer.... and never dreamed I would ever hear words like that come from his lips!) -
If you're losing inches....WHO CARES? You are fixated on a number, rather than the way your clothes fit. Which is more important?

How about spending their money at Hobby Lobby? They can each get a craft project to work on. Looks like it's gonna be that kind of day! When was the last time you went to the Museum of Natural Science? -

I'm busy making bracelets!! I have a question....how does one GAIN 2# while one is sleeping??? I weighed (3x) last night before I got in bed. 190#! I was excited because I usuall lose 1-2# overnight and I should be hitting a new number this morning, right? WRONG!! 192. Time for a new scale me thinks. -
