  1. In June of 2010 my husband and I started our weightloss journey together!! Both of us were hoping to get the Sleeve. On Feb. 14th 2011 I had the sleeve, a rough road at first but well worth the struggles. Now 9 months later I am at goal and just trying to maintain. Did I already tell ya "I LOVE MY SLEEVE"!! WHOOT WHOOT!! Just today my hubby got the news that he will be having his RNY surgery on December 2nd 2011. He is excited and had originally wanted the sleeve surgery also, but due to his diabetes the doctor felt the RNY surgery would be the best option for him. If everything goes as planned he should be free of meds in a few short weeks. YAY!! Keep him in your prayers as we are hoping everything goes well. We hope to see you all on the losers bench soon. Happy ThanksGiving to All!!

  2. I am 3 months out yesterday and my surgeon says it is ok to work out. Up to this time all he allowed is walking. I have been walking and can easily do a mile. (Before my sleeve carrying in the laundry from the garage left me panting in a chair). The doctor recommended hiring a personal trainer to get me on the right exercises, but I really can't afford that at this time. Anyone got any suggestions what to start with at the gym? I know the treadmill, but I need to work on tightening up my abs and rebuilding my strength. Help please?

PS I am a 58 year old guy if that makes any difference.

Hi! Do you have a Planet Fitness workout center near you? The cost of membership is cheap and you can schedule time with a personal trainer throught planet fitness to find out what machines will help with your specific areas you want to work on. Thats what I did. Hope this helps!! Diane.

  4. Thanks everyone for the compliments! biggrin.gif

I know when I started this journey I was inspired by those who would post before/during and afters. The journey is not always easy - I try very hard to stick to my plan - 65-80 grams Protein per day, 60+ ounces H20 and I try to avoid junky carbs. Do I avoid all carbs no, no, no - but I do not over do it. Carbs are the devil for me!

I work out with a trainer 2-3 times per week - focusing on weight training - that is what attribute my arms to - I have very little lose skin there. I am also very luck to be tall 5;8" so that helped me - my weight was pretty evenly distributed over my entire body - the only issues I have is wrinkly lose skin on my lower tummy and my new pre-puberty boobies! tongue.gif My stomach does not have folds or flaps - that I know I would have had it I was 5 inches shorter...but it does bother me...lots. I will look into a mini Tummy Tuck once I have maintained for awhile.

Thanks again for the support everyone. This forum has been my #1 support system. I found my sleeve sister on this site - and we met in Mexico and had surgery the same day....love you Davida! And to all the others here who have been so supportive and honest - thank you! I wish I had the opportunity to meet some of you personally one day - you are all such an inspiration to me!

OH - PS - the Little Black Dress.... Calvin Klein size 8 - got it at the outlet store - tag said $148 - I paid $8!! Lol I love clothes shopping now and all the wonderful options!

Wow!! you look awesome!! I wish my arms looked as good as yours - I have been going to a gym 3 days a week and lifting some weights to help hopefully. But i'm sure they won't turn out as good as yours. GREAT JOB!!

  6. You really rocked that sleeve!!! Congratulations on getting to goal so fast.

Thanks Autum Lily!! I am 57 yrs. old and didn't know how to post my pictures so I cornered my daughter and had her post them. I wish I would' ve known how to do that or I would have posted pic's along my journey. I would like to show the pic;s in a group but just not computer savy enough for that. Have a good week!!

  7. You look great!

I just had my surgury on 9/5/11 in Mexico, and I feel great but I have some Water retention in my feet and ankles, did you happen to have this? If so how long before it went away?

    Thank you

Thanks! Mary. No I didn't have any problem with water retention in my feet or ankles. But I am sure that it must be from all the fluids pumped into you with the IV's. May take a week or so to go away. Have a good week!!

  8. I haven't lost anything in over 2weeks...actually I have but only because I gained 4 lbs and then lost the same 4 lbs. angry.gif

I need encouragement and possibly some advice.

Hi applesaucy! Try switching your diet up a little. When I found myself in a stall I discovered I wasn't getting in enough Protein so I added Protein in my Water with crystal lite in the morning when I went to work and drank that and then again at nite for a snack I added protein in some greek yogurt with a little fruit. Amazingly the scale showed a loss again at the end of the week. Hope this helps and have a good week. :)

  9. Congratulations!!! I'm 52 & just starting my journey--got sleeved 8/15/11.....you give me great hope for success. Early on, did you measure all of your portions, or just eat small portions until you felt full?? I'm still on soft/pureed foods & am worried that i'm not having any issues. Thanks for any suggestions you have for a fellow senior sleever!

Well I just want to add that I lost 72 lbs. pre-op with the Medifast food program and I have lost 74 lbs. post-op with the sleeve for a total loss of 146 lbs. In my earlier post I don't know if I worded the post correctly in my excitement at reaching my goal.

I didn't measure my foods right from the get go - I used a small say 6 oz. bowl and filled it like 3/4's full with any liquid or pureed food I was going to eat and I just ate till I got that full feeling or if it didn't sit well I would feel a tightness in my throat and then I would stop eating. And since I started on soft food and then added in other foods I just take a small portion of the Protein and eat that, then I have some veggies, and possibly a few bits of fruit, and I usually don't have any room for breads or carbs. but once in a while I may have a bite or two of a bun if it looks appealing. I usually try to stay pretty low carb if I can. When I notice that FULL feeling I usually push the plate away and quit eating right away. I don't like to throw up and I haven't had any problem with that since the surgery. However one time I ate a little more than I should have and had such a tightness in my chest that I had to lay down for a bit till that feeling went away. I don't know for sure if I ate too much or ate to fast, so now I am more careful with portions and I try to remind myself to slow down and chew, chew, chew.

It has been my experience that if I don't get enough Protein in and am not eating enough calories that my weightloss slows down because I think my body thinks it;s starving and holds onto the weight. Once I upped my protein and calories and along with exercise the scales started to move in the right direction again.

I hope this informaton helps, any question feel free to ask!

I hope to see you at the "goal" line soon! Thanks and have a good day now!!

  10. WOW-- 6 months and 10 days and 143 pounds gone??? You are SUPER WOMAN!!! How fantastic--congratulations on achieving your goal so fast!!

Thanks for the pat on the back "Megin". But I must admit that in my excitement on losing a total of 146 lbs. I should've worded my post differently. I actually lost 72 lbs. pre-op with the Medifast food and I lost 74 lbs. post-op in 6 months with the sleeve for a total loss of 146 lbs. I don't want anyone to think I am superwoman or anything. LOLS!! Guess I was just so excited at being at goal I didn't word myself correctly. So sorry for the misinformation. I know that we will be seeing you at goal shortly too! Thanks again.

  11. HOLY MOLY, WOMAN!!!! Dang! I don't think I've seen that kind of weight loss so fast!! :cheer2: Good for you! You are amazing!! I would be happy to lose HALF of what you lost in 6 months, lol!!!

Thanks Soon2B!! But I guess in my excitement in losing 146 lbs. I didn't word myself correctly in my post. Sorry for any confusion, but I lost 72 lbs. pre-op with the Medifast food, and I lost 74 lbs. post-op in 6 months for a total loss of 146 lbs. I didn't want anyone to think I was superhuman or something !! LOLS. But I appreciate your well wishes. I know I will be seeing you at goal before long also. Thanks again!

  12. Okay, i have to know. Did you eat anything? Did you get all your Protein? I have a friend with those kinds of results but she didnt eat at all. Advice on how you did it would be welcome. I am trying to follow all the rules and do this as healthy as possible, but I definitely want results like that!! ; )

Hi Tinafine. I guess I didn't word my post correctly I was so excited with the total loss of 146 lbs. I had lost 72 lbs pre-op with the Medifast food and I have lost 74 lbs. post-op in 6 months with the sleeve for a total loss of 146 lbs. I didn't want anyone to think I was superhuman or someting!! LOLS!!

I followed my DR.'s instructions to the T, 2 weeks liquids, 2 weeks pureed foods, and 2 weeks of soft or mushy foods. And then slowly added in new foods that I liked. I do mainly high Protein and low carbs all the way. I usually eat my Proteins first, then veggies and then fruit, after that I have no room for many carbs. Up until I reached my goal I exercised 3 times a week for 1 1/2 hours each time. But now I am just trying to maintain so I have decided to cut back to 30 minute workouts 3 times a week.

For me I have found that if I don't eat enough my body tends to hold onto the weight and my weightloss slows down. I usually have 1 Protein Drink per day mixed with crystal lite in the Water and a scoop of amplified wheybolic extreme 60 Protein powder purchased at GNC which adds 25 grams of protein. On the days I worked out for an 1 l/2 I sometimes would add a scoop of Protein Powder to some greek low fat yogurt with a little fruit mixed in such as crushed pineapple in its own juice, for a snack after supper to add more protein to my diet.

Oh and I ALWAYS make sure that I drink at the very minimum (4) 16.9 oz of Water mixed with some flavor packets each day. to keep me hydrated. And I make sure to take my Vitamins that were suggested by my Dr. daily also.

I hope this helps and I am sure I will see in your posts that you have reached goal soon. Have a good day!

  13. Bloody hell... you've lost another person in just 6mths... VERY IMPRESSIVE - and I agree with rootman; a tad shade green with envy!!

Congratulations on turning your life around... YOU ROCK LADY!! =]

Thanks! Coops but I guess I should've worded by post differently - I had lost 72 lbs. pre-op and have lost 74 lbs. post-op in 6 months, for a total of 146 lbs. I didn't want anyone to think I was superhuman or something!! LOLS

Sometimes I think loosing the weight at a slower pace makes it easier to keep it off anyway.

  14. Okay, so I have been drinking about four to five Protein shakes a day, and I hated carrying around all those silly little powders in baggies. However, as I was walking through Walmart this last Monday, I discovered Baby Formula Dispensers! They have three compartments that stay separated, so you can hold up to three different Protein powders! I can't tell you how much I love this thing. I don't know how I would live with out it. I bought the Munchkin Formula Powder Dispenser at Walmart for 2.50. It was such a bargain for how easy it has made my life.

Cool Wishes!! I just may have to SPLURGE !! LOLS and get one of these. Thanks for the Info.

  15. Wow...this is awesome. My body went into maintainance short of 10 lbs of my goal. I have tried but I am boucing around at 155. Though to be honest, my collar bones are very visable and if I would lose any more in that area I would probably start looking sickly. My extra weight seems to be hanging around my belly area but I am still wearing a size 10 which I have not done that since before high school. So am not going to worry about the last few pounds. I am still healthy and doing things I never could even a year ago. Congrats and good luck.

Wow!! You are doing "AWESOME" yourself lady glad you are doing so great!! Congrats and good luck to you on your journey as well!!
