burning sensation post op day 3

All I can find is that a burning sensation on the skin can be caused by nerve endings that were cut and are regenerating. It literally feels like someone has lit my skin on fire...and not on the incision but in between them. Hurts any time I move and use my abs on my left. I have found the pain meds and an ice pack held there are the only things bringing relief. Hoping this clears up fast. I think if it was gone I would be somewhat functional. As is, I have a hard time going pee!!! Tmi I know. Frustrating!!! I will keep researching. Joan

burning sensation post op day 3

Thanks Heather. I don't think I've done enough to pull a stitch. It hurts even where there is no incision...which is why I think it may b muscle?? Or maybe nerve ending pain in skin. Feels like its on the surface. I appreciate ur response. Just knowing someone else had it makes me feel better. Joan
  4. I'm finally on my way to the hospital for surgery!!!! My potassium is fine and I'm ready!!! Let's do this!! Look out new life....here I come!!! Joan

    My Surgery Date--FINALLY!

Woohoo!! Congrats and be prepared for some crazy emotions along the way. It is exciting!!!
  9. I have FINALLY been rescheduled!!! I am "ON" for next Tuesday, June 14th!! YAY! I had been about to be wheeled into surgery on May 24th when they realized my potassium was super low. Since I have Chron's disease/ulcerative colitis, everyone had a freak out thinking it was due to the disease. If so, they were thinking it might be like 6 months or more before I could get the surgery done. Luckily, it was due to my preop diet!! LOL! I was unable to do Slimfast...the lactose just tore me up...so I was doing 2 Isopure ready made drinks per day plus one meal and Water. I had lost 18 pounds in 2 weeks...so they think that is what caused the potassium drop. DUH! I am a Physical Therapist by degree...you would think I would know about electrolytes. Ha ha! Anyway, as many of you know....I was TOTALLY frustrated! So dog gone excited to get back on track! I can hardly wait til next week! I will keep you posted on my last, last week of preop wt. loss...and figure out how to fix up a ticker to track it etc. Thanks to everyone here for all your support and encouragement!! I am doing the party dance today!!!!!! Joan
  10. Hi! I am actually also a Physical Therapist and I would say to take a look at your total body fat percentage. Work on getting that down and you will see that tummy and skin start to disappear. Kind of the thinking is that if you do keep using fat to feed the body....it will go away. The skin will usually go mostly back to! The issue really is if we are all willing to work that hard to get there. Plastic surgery solves other issues too....stretch marks, areas that need lifting etc. Once you are doing great on your workouts...consider something really fun and that really is more hard core. P90X seems to rip people like nobody's business! Through the years I have seen some dramatic weight losses and body transformations. My advice is to always leave plastic surgery as your last ditch effort after all else has been done to do it with exercise! PS. I think your pics are amazing. Congrats on your fantastic loss and health transformation already!!! Joan

    will I ever get sleeved????

And btw, did I mention I paid $12,000 out of pocket and have so far gotten only an IV of POTASSIUM!! AHHHHH!! Lol

    will I ever get sleeved????

Amen sister!!! Same here...literally being wheeled into surgery when they found my potassium was too low. Now have 3 docs fighting about what to do and I think it was not enough electrolytes on preop diet!!! TOTALLY EXASPERATING!!! But, I am using the time to decide that this FAT body is OVER!! Just eating a healthy diet and plugging along in other areas. The point is we WILL get sleeved. Just hang onto that for now. I feel your pain!!! If that helps at all!! Joan

    feeling sad ... :(

We are with you!!! Keep posting!! Many of these people have gotten me through tough emotional times and I am not sleeved yet!! Lol. I'm sorry about your family not being here too. It is weird to say but going thru this emotional roller coaster is something we are all doing "alone" in a way. At the same time, I feel that by shedding the weight permanently, I am in a way un-isolating myself for the first time!!!! You know what I mean?? That fat buffer is going away...and it is vulnerable n scary at times!! But, thank God we are taking Lu lives back!! And going back to living!! Keep your mind focused on that. ps I have a super cute anesthesiologist!!! Lol. Thank goodness he will be at my face end during the surgery!! Haha!! Hugs n hang in there!! Joan

    Optifast

First of all, I LOVE your name! It made me laugh!!! I did Optifast for 6 months about 2 years ago...lost 90 lbs on that stuff!! LOL! (All gained back of course and then some...thank goodness for the sleeve). Weird thing was that I did not like much of the solid stuff so I mainly did liquids. I got a hand blender and mixed the stuff with other things... Ex: chocolate or Vanilla with a cup of coffee (course now you should use decaf) and a touch of artificial sweetner like stevia. strawberry, I mixed with Diet orange soda (you won't be able to have soda after...so you could try crystal light flavors! YUM!) and some crushed ice. Delicious! I also used some of the International sugar free coffees to mix with Water and their flavors but not sure now if caffeinated or not?? You'd have to check, but together they were better than starbucks. I often used sugar free syrups to add to whatever I was mixing to change it up a bit. Hot vs. Iced etc too. I did NOT like the chicken soup...but the tomato...YUMMY!!!! I truly found Optifast was some of the tastiest diet stuff out there. AND I thought it was the easiest diet I was EVER on. 600 calories a day...no thinking about food choices. If only I could last on it forever....haha! The sleeve will help me keep my weight down though! Goodluck and I wish I still had some for my preop diet that is beginning again since my surgery delay. (PS. Tried Medifast and it was yucky to me in comparison.) Rooting for you!!! Joan

    ANY JUNE SLEEVERS OUT THERE???

I am waiting on a reschedule date, but hope to be very soon!! Exciting and will let you know my date ASAP. I love the Isopure drinks and unflavored powder from the Vitamin Shoppe. Goodluck!! Joan

    Recently decided to get sleeved!

I do not know Dr. Kelly, but Congrats on your decision. I am so so sorry to hear about your friend. How awful!! PE is possible after any surgery like other risks...but I understand your being sick and tired of being overweight. I look at it like I could have a heart attack or diabetes at any moment...and I could die in a car wreck any day. I figure when the good Lord calls me home...I will return. I think it is my job now to do what I can to take care of my body to do His plan for my life...and the sleeve is my way back to healthy. Glad to have you on the forum and goodluck with everything. Joan

    10 weeks postop w/pics

You are gorgeous! Keep us posted.
  20. Don't try to do too much. Maybe just start walking short distances and work your way up. Remember this was major surgery plus you are no doubt in major calorie deficit. The effects of anesthesia can cause fatigue for up to 2 weeks too. Can you tell I am a physical therapist?? Lol Hives are probably reaction to meds or stress of surgery. This will all get better!! Hang in there! Joan

    Self-Sabotage

I totally get you and feel like peeling the weight off is like peeling off my skin!! Like leaving me vulnerable with no more excuses...I must now admit I can be successful at all of my life and quit hiding out!! I am waiting on my reschedule date but even the preop diet makes me feel this way...becuz I know I will never be this fat again. All I can say is journaling, counseling and reading great books. I've read the one mentioned above plus I am reading Course In Weight Loss....good one!! Incorporates the spiritual aspect as well. Great thread and I say we BEAT this thing!!!! Joan
  24. Here's to a perfect surgery and quick recovery!! I wish it was me!! Still waiting on my reschedule date. Trust in your doc. You will do great! Keep us posted. Joan
  25. Went in for surgery this am..potassium critically low. Still getting iv fluids plus potassium. They will delay a week or two. Ugh..cannot believe it but glad they caught it!!! Potassium is critical for heart rhythm....God is good! They think ot is low from some meds I have been taking. Frustrated but grateful. Joan
