    8 week Surgiversary!!!!

    Woohoo!! Rock that sleeve!!! Joan
  3. I have had one close friend who had distanced herself greatly and I think she does not approve of the surgery. She is at her heaviest now though and single which is tough in and of itself. My take is that any time you make positive changes in your life...even when you have success in any area...it pulls on people's comfort zones. It shows them they too could be more, do more or have more in life. It is what makes them go kinda bezerk on you potentially. I think true friends will adjust given some time. I also think we are drawn together because of our similarities...and when you take your life to the next level like we all have...you gain new friends who are there too. So sorry to hear all the yucky reactions from your old friends. I hope they come around or that you get new and better ones!!! Joan

  8. I'm self pay and had my surgery w Dr. Nicholson on June 14th at Forest Park. It was a great facility and they took great care of me. I have been in the medical field and I would highly recommend the facility and staff. Goodluck!!! Joan
  9. I would tell them that it was a decision that you made to take control of your health and everyone else has to make their own decisions. And if they keep going, tell them that you've already made your decision and you would appreciate their positive support...and if they cannot do that then you would appreciate them keeping their negative opinions to themselves! Unless they have walked in your shoes...they haven't a clue. Arm yourself, but decide you feel great about you and your decision. Then....no one can toy with your emotions. I am proud of what I did!! My sister said the most amazing thing too....she said she admired me because I had decided after a lifelong battle...to do whatever it takes to have victory. Woohoo!!! On to VICTORY!!!!! Joan

    Infected Incision

Yes...you did exactly the right thing. Watch to be sure the puss is draining and then will go from white to clear or reddish clear. If it gets worse call your doc....like red streaks extending out, gets warm to touch, more drainage etc. I used to be a wound care specialist. Hope it clears up easily with the antibiotic and bandage. Joan

    Am I mentally prepared?

I think it may help. I think you really just have to know that your old crutch of food is going to be unavailable. That means for me that I have had to find a way to feel my emotions and deal with them in a healthy, productive way. If you think it would help to talk to someone...go for it. I'm doing all kinds of things to help me get to a better place of self love. From journaling to reading to exercise to goal setting and vision casting....and a ton of talking to people in my support system. I am also self pay and only did a 2 wk preop diet...and I was way ready to do this mentally. But it is still an emotional roller coaster, so whatever you decide plan some coping strategies for after your surgery as well as establish your suppo

  17. Holy schmoly!!!! You look amazing!!! Thanks for the inspiration!!!!! Joan ps. I agree with the smile...you have a LOT to smile about!
  18. Have you tried Isopure in Alpine punch flavor, grape or Orange? They are thin..no weird texture and very little to no aftetaste. I get mine at The Vitamin Shoppe and they are ready to drink. Over ice, they taste like very mild popsicles with 40 grams of protein in 20 oz. It has been my savior. I was sleeved on June 24th and still have 4 weeks of liquids since I have Chrons disease. Hope you find a way soon. Hang in there! Joan

update for you - post op day 9 o

Thanks y'all. For TexasMom65, I started with phone calls from the recliner on day 4. I was pretty unmotivated though!! Lol. Day 6 i was on computer about 20 minutes at a time due to my low back pain. Everyone is different though. Hear some people are back on day 5 full time!!! I wish. Haha. Goodluck and prayers for all of you for smooth sailing!!!
  20. Thought I would give y'all an update and impression of how things went etc. I had my sleeve on Tuesday, June 14th about 2:30 pm. The surgery itself went fine and took about 45 minutes. I was in recovery about an hour and a half when my family came in and they put me in a room. The first night was fine and controlled with morphine through the IV. I started walking bit by bit around the halls. I was more sore than expected, but it was tolerable with meds. Before I got discharged the next day, they started me on fluids...one oz every 10 to 15 minutes. Also, they took out the drain which was very little pain. When I got home, I used pain meds at least to sleep until day 6. I had some nausea but had meds for it. Each day it seems I get a little better. I am still on fluids only and I was lucky...getting Fluid down had not been a problem. I'm on about 40 to 60 grams of Protein now and 60 to 80 oz. of fluid pretty easily. I work from home but still have some burning sensation (nerves regeneration) on my skin and in my abs on the left side. I have low back pain too if I stand up for more than 20 to 30 minutes or sit up in a straight chair. I'm doing phone calls...easy meals etc for my family. I still have help for the three kids (under 7). I can drive and bend down but I am still pretty sore. Feels like I did 3000 crunches. Lol!! I do have diarrhea about twice a day (and expected to with the liquid diet) plus some fun rumblings in my tummy and pretty disgusting gas at times. I think I started walking enough not to have too bad of gas pain though. Thank you Lord!! I had lost 17 pounds on 2 wk preop diet and have lost 14 pounds since surgery. Total of 31 pounds!! 25% of what I need to lose!! I am not tummy hungry but am still head hungry. Since my calories aren't much...200 to 400 total per day, I run out of steam easily and nap. I can now lie flat in bed and get up out of our quick sand of a memory foam bed. Lol. I spent the first 6 days in the recliner. I'm looking forward to getting to the gym and can see how I will be back to "normal" soon. Excited and happy but it is emotional at times. Thankful that the good Lord has given me a way to beat this addiction and that He has brought me through with flying colors. I had the added fears of having Chrons disease, so I am super grateful! My biggest surprise? The low back pain...since I'm a physical therapist by degree...I get it, but am surprised at how much that has bugged me. I would not change a thing though and I would do it over in a heart beat!!! Thanks to all who share on this board. You all prepared me well, and I hope to give back to others now. Happy journey to all of you!!! Joan

    Vitamins

Yes, my doc recommends but I found one I like at The Vitamin Shoppe in my town. Only 1 of 2 they carry and it is pineapple flavored. I tried the Flintstones which some people recommended but I hated them. Goodluck! Joan

  24. 3rd day post op and I'm having serious burning sensations when I stand or sit. Think it is from incisions and where the muscles where cut open. Anyone else have this and how long does it last?? Other than that...some gas pain n slight nausea at times. I'm getting down 40 oz of fluids n yesterday did 30 grams protein. Thanks for your advice!!
