    A fill?

Thank you. I have lost about 18 lbs in about 5 and half weeks and I have 2cc's in a 14cc band. Not bad really. I would like to be further along but I am also lucky to work at a hospital and able to talk to nutritionists when ever I need to. They say I am losing at a healthy rate. I am not in any huge rush really and the one thing I did get my lap band for has been working amazingly well. I really got the lap band to help me with my diabetes. My numbers already are significantly lower and I hope to be off of some of my meds soon. the weight loss fluctuates, but I think that can be normal. I know I am doing the right things to get me where I ultimately want to go, fill or no fill. I can also tell I have lost inches because of the way my clothing fits. I do plan on going to all my follow ups. I am committed in making this work for me. But I don't want to get further restriction, if all it is doing is complicating rather than helping.
  2. Talk to your surgeon and their team. I am with you. I have only lost 18 lbs and I am about 6 weeks out. I felt frustrated until I talked to my surgeon's team. They are great and reassured me that I am doing fine. I can understand your frustration. I am going to the gym 4 times a week, walking the other days, given up a majority of carbs. I just wanted it to drop quicker, but as others stated in this topic, you didn't put it on overnight, how can you expect it to go away overnight. Just be patient. Be patient with your body and you will get there. Stay with your goals... and just because you aren't losing lbs. doesn't mean you aren't losing inches. Start measuring yourself and you might feel a bit more relieved.

    Feeling Doubtful

Don't worry about the weight loss right now and honestly don't worry about it to much until you start getting fills. The first 6 weeks is about healing. Don't focus on the scale just yet. Just get through the surgery and recovery. Focus on that first.

    Sushi

Sashimi is great. Pure Protein. You can't beat it. I try to eat it a couple times a week. For some nutritional info on both Sushi and Sashimi check out the link below: http://www.sushifaq.com/sushi-calories.htm I also like to get Hand Rolls with out the rice. I have never had a Sushi place not take that request and a Spicy Scallop Hand Roll is one of my favorite things to eat. Explore Sushi and Japanese food in general. I suggest finding a good Izakaya restaurant near you. It is Japanese Small Plates (Kinda like tapas) and it is a great way to explore the tastes of that culture.
  14. I am only allowed 200 more friends on my personal page and I have 600 pending friend requests. DOH!!

  15. I have only had my band for a little over 4 weeks and have lost about 20 lbs. (No fill yet) and I can attest that it has already brought my blood sugars down quite a bit. Before surgery I would normally have numbers ranging from 240 to 320. Since surgery I am now between 90 and 120 regularly. I have not been over 150 since surgery. I am still on Metformin, Prandin and Byetta as I have yet to see my Endocrinologist to see if I can get off a few of these meds now, but I am hoping when I see him next month I will be a few more lbs lighter and even a bit lower on the blood sugars. So far the band has done what I wanted it to do regarding my diabetes. I feel a lot better and hope as the weight comes off that more health improvement occurs.
  16. Signed my new track with Hector Djhuggie Merida to Soulman Music out of South America. Look for the release of Paradigm Shift this July.

How much did your insurance pay

I have blue cross blue shield also and they covered 90 %. All I had to come up with out of pocket was $1000.

    Gulping water

The first couple of days after I couldn't gulp even if I wanted to but I feel more comfortable drinking more than sips now and have had no ill effects. I do suggest you start practicing not drinking when you eat. Took me a while to get used to that.

    How is your diabetes numbers?

My blood sugars are now pretty much under control. Before surgery my numbers ranged from 250 to 320. Now they range from 80 to 120 and this is only 18 lbs down so I am thinking it is mainly due to my diet which is great. Already took myself off of Prandin but hoping to get off Metformin and Byetta soon.

    Do you miss food/eating?

I think everyone who has the lap band goes through their own journey of finding the difference between physical hunger and head hunger. I have been banded 3 1/2 weeks now and I still find myself over ordering. Even when I think I am getting a small meal in my head. It takes time to get used to. I do miss certain foods, but I found love for other new foods that are healthier for me. You will find that food, that satisfies you, and also is good for you. For me it is Sashimi. It is something I love, something I know is good for me and something that I can have on a regular basis and not feel bad about. I used to love bread and rice but for some reason (and maybe because I don't want to get stuck), I just have no craving for it. Knowing that I can only get a limited amount of food in makes me want to make sure I am getting what my body needs as opposed to what my head wants. Good luck on your journey.
  21. I agree with both Sandworms and Acadia. The truth is getting a fill isn't going to help either if the behavior isn't being modified. He can still eat junk (although less of it) but if he isn't motivated to keep pushing himself, the only thing you getting on him about it is isolating him even further. I know you are coming from a place of love and concern and it is hard to see him let go of his progress, but in the end, this is his journey and he needs to be the one to do it for himself.
  22. 16 lbs. lighter so far. Just gotta keep pushing!

  23. I was very and remain very public about my surgery. Part of it accountability but also finally relived that after a year of running through the pre op that it was finally here and I wanted to shout it from the roof tops. Part of my life (I am a DJ in Los Angeles) is very public and it was liberating for me to get this out there and find so many support from friends and strangers alike. I recently went to some clubs and random people came to ask me how I was feeling after surgery. The support has been outstanding. I think people just want to see other people do well. And sometimes, they see more results than you do

    sex drive after lapband

No problem on the male side of things
  25. Salmon and Albacore Sashimi. Raw fish is probably the biggest part of my diet right now. Luckily I live right around the corner from a small Japanese Seafood market that cuts it fresh for me and gives me a great price as opposed to going to a sushi restaurant for the same thing.
