  1. I had my mom one night, my sister one night, and my niece one night. I just felt better having someone there. I really didn't need any help but just the company was really nice. It was actually good that I had my mom there the first night, because the next morning I couldn't breath and ended up in the ER with fluids in my lungs. So I was back in the hospital for 2 more nights. All is good now, and I really had an easy recovery except for my Fluid set back. If your people are willing to stay, have them stay. It's nice to have someone there just to talk to and lean on.

  2. I am having a similar situation. I am 6 weeks post surgery and I keep saying, "This is not going to work". Just like the millions of diets I have done in my life and failed at. I keep thinking every time I step on the scale that I will have gained and I will have stopped losing. I guess there is nothing that can make those thoughts go away, but the proof is on the scale. I have tried a few things that I used to love to eat, cheese, scrambled eggs, and to my dissappointment they just don't taste the same. On the other hand, I used to not like chocolate and now I really love it. I have only had chocolate Protein Shakes and Sugar Free Chocolate pudding, but I never would have chosen those before. My wieght loss is great 44 pounds, so I keep telling myself "This is working". But then again right after that I say " But the weight loss is going to stop now". I guess I will look back in a year and see what the results are.

    Good luck to you.

  3. Don't fret. I had the exact same thing happen to me. I was sleeved on 12/14/10 and right around the first of the year I hit my stall. 10 days with nothing and I was freaking out. But the scale finally started to move and I have been steadily moving since then. DO NOT WORRY. It will start up again. Everyone on here said there is a dreaded 3 week stall. Just keep doing what you are supposed to do and it will start up again. I'm down 44 pounds since pre surgery diet on Dec 1.

  4. My 3 week stall lasted 10 days. But during it I noticed changes in the appearance of my body. (Parts shrinking). This week I started off with a 3 pound weight loss, and another one today, so 4 pounds this week. Hang in there, you are doing great!! It will happen.... I'm a believer now.

  5. Your doctor didn't have any protien powder or drinks for you? You should be getting at least 60 grams of protien per day, and being on week 1 and 2 you should be having protien drinks. My doctors office has a whole store full of liquids I can drink and get my protien in. You should check with the nutritionist at your doctors office they should have given you some guidelines before you even left the hospital.

  6. I treid this - it sounds gross but it was actually good.

My Dr. Office calls this Lasagna

    3/4 cottage cheese

    2 egg whites

    1/4 spaghetti sauce

Mix all together and bake 350 for 1/2 hour.

It puffs up like a soufle. Tastes great.

You could probably add some parmesan or cheddar cheese at 4 weeks. I did this at 2 weeks.

  7. Hi Meagan,

I was sleeved on Dec 14 and last week I wrote a similar request. I had lost 34 pounds and was stuck there for 12 days.... I was going crazy, and I got a lot of positive reply's. Made me feel a lot better. I weighed Monday morning and had lost 3 pounds FINALLY.....The first thing you have to do is put the scale away. What they say about the body adjusting is true. You have lost a lot of weight and your body needs to catch up. As for the food, i'm not having any major problems with the food. I have things I like. Do you like Refried Beans? I doctor them up with onions sauteed soft and salsa. I can only eat a little bit. Avacado's mashed up with some garlic salt and lime is also good. Mashed potatoes with gravy. I love cottage cheese and Yogurt so I have that when I am hungry, and believe me I get hungry. I wish I could come up with something great for you to eat. I put the unflavored protied powder in just about everything that I eat to boost the protien.

My doctor said if you don't get your protien in it will slow down the weight loss, so do whatever you can to get it in. The unflavored protien powder and the dried milk helps. I also found some crystal light that has 3 grams of protien. It's called Hunger Satisfaction. I like the Strawberry/Bannana. I'm not sure if it comes in other flavors. Hope this helps.

  8. I used FMLA and Short Term Disability. It was a cinch to use. We have a great HR person at my job and she helped me through everything. We have a 7 calandar day waiting period. So there was one week that I did not get paid. I'm sure all companies plans are different. It worked out ok though because there were 5 pay days in December. Good Luck

  9. Hi this is Lisa, and I had my VGS on 12/14. I started my pre op diet at 434 lbs and now I am down to 400. The problem is, I have been at 400 for 6 days now. I am freaking out. Is that all the weight I am going to lose? I get all my Water and protien in, walking is hard for me so I am doing a little bit but not 30 minutes. Will I lose any more weight I didn't go through this to lose just 34 pounds. Oh my gosh I am frustrated. How can I not lose with the small amount of food I am eating? I really need some reassurances here if anyone has some. Thanks

  10. My pre surgery diet was not total liquid although it was 800-900 calories per day. I could have the meals provided by the surgeons office and protien drinks. (one meal per day and the rest protien shakes and other snacks). I didn't think I could do it either, but for the first time in my life I was determined to do it. I did not have one crumb of any food that was not on the program. Mind you, I am a diet cheater, and can always find a way to cheat. I was so proud of myself that I did this without cheating, and it made me hopeful that I can stay on the post of program and lose the weight. Good Luck

  11. My surgery is scheduled for tomorrow. While on the pre-op diet I have been having dreams about eating things I shouldn't. Last night I ate a whole chicken. Talk about wierd. I was glad when I woke up and realized it was only a dream. Good luck to you. You are just a week behind me.

  12. I will have my surgery tomorrow morning at 9:30. I am so excited and tottally nervous. I've lost about 12 pounds on the pre-surgery diet. I have not had one morsel or crumb of food that was not on my program. I loved the powdered eggs. Go figure. I will be at Lacks Surgical Center is Grand Rapids, MI. My surgeon is Dr. Kemmeter. 2011 is the beginning of my new life, and I am determined to be successful at this. Wow, I can't believe I am actually doing this. :o

  13. I had the same problem but with Diet Coke. I stopped cold turkey on October 1st. I was prepared for massive headaches and nausea, because I had stopped before and had a terrible time. But this time it was a piece of cake. I would start out every morning at McDonalds with a big 32oz Diet Coke, and then at least 3 or 4 20 oz bottles throught the day. I wish you luck. You can do it... it's for a good cause. My surgery is next Tuesday.

  14. I heard that that all goes away after the surgery. People who have the sleeve had to be reminded to eat. I am the same as you with having food as my buddy. Me and food get along great. I am one week away from my surgery and all I can do is think about all the lovely food that I won't be able to eat anymore. I'm praying that all those thoughts are gone after surgery.

My fear is not of dying or complications from the surgery, but of the aftermath of the surgery. I am frightened of not being able to handle the head hunger. I've been fat for all of my life, and I eat b/c food is like my best bud. I eat when happy, when sad, when bored, etc. I eat b/c I like to eat.

So, any advice for me? Any others have issues with this and how did you handle it? I'm wondering if I might need psych meds when this is all said and done. (my surgery is in 6 weeks) I am having this surgery to better my health.
