    February 2007 bandsters!

my doctor, has one week preop of liquid diet. Three impact advance recovery shakes ( after taste of fish because it has cod liver oil in it yuck) and clear liquids. Then post op two weeks of liquids only....From what I have read on these posts every doctor is different. The biggest reason is they like to shrink your liver because it is so close to the stomach, it makes the surgery easier for the surgeon. Good Luck!

    cost of lap band?

I am self paying in Connecticut , the MD was 3800 and the hospital is 7000. So total is 10,800. That is not including any of the pre-op visits, nutrition, initial consult etc...

    February 2007 bandsters!

I am done with day 3 of the liquid preop YEAH! almost halfway there. Today was not easy my insurance is still pending so I am self paying until the insurance approval comes through. It should be the day before my surgery but my MD needs to be paid and so does the hospital if you dont have the auth in your hand. Oh well, I hope I get reimbursed, if not I think it is worth it. I want to live a long healthy life. Good Luck Susannah, cant wait to hear how you are doing! Babygirl- four more days for you and I !!!! yippeeee :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

    Protein Powders

I really like the unjury as well. I have found I like the chocolate better than vanilla but I like soy milk and I buy the light chocolate soy milk and put the vanilla unjury in it. It is really good. I started having them for Breakfast long before I needed to. I have also tried a few of the nectar protien powders but personally did not care for them. Unjury.com

    February 2007 bandsters!

Hey Babygirl, That is great we are on the same day, we can compare our pain and pain meds! LOL. Wow two weeks, I dont blame you for feeling like barfing. I will be complaining next week I am sure. Are you nervous about surgery or what comes after? At this point I am really excited and looking forward to all of it. I am wondering how I am going to work through all of the challenges after I am banded. I have to travel a lot for work and that means dinners out many nights with co workers. I am hoping I can hide my new eating style without drawing attention to it. Have you told many people?

    Is the lap band healthy?

I researched the mgb and found that there are some concerns. This web site makes reference to them, but does not go into detail. I think any surgery, lap band RBY or MGB is a personal decision and you should research the good and the bad before you make your decision. Good luck. wikipedia.org/wiki/Gastric_bypass_surgeryerns.

    February 2007 bandsters!

Hi babygirl, I am getting really excited. I had been nervous when I found out my surgery date, but now that it is getting closer I am psyched! I am addicted to this website and spend a lot of my free time reading how others are doing. I start my liquid pre op Tuesday morninig. I have to drink this stuff called impact advance recovery. When you take the first sip, it's like " oh this is not so bad" but the aftertaste is GROSS! it tastes like chocolate fish. I just keep telling myself it is only one week. Other people have it a lot worse!

    February 2007 bandsters!

Hi, I am starting to get nervous and excited. 13 days until surgery. I have my nutrition class tomorrow, and I believe I have to do a liquid diet for a week before. I will get all of the information tomorrow. How is everyone else doing?

    February 2007 bandsters!

Hi I have not started my liquid diet yet but I wonder if it is because your not getting enough protien. The nutrionist I saw told me carnation instant breakfast does not have much protein in it. Adkins Advantage and Slim Fast Optima have more. Good luck! I am worried about starting the liquid part of this plan.
  12. Hi, I am scheduled for banding on Feb 6th @ NBGH. I can't wait!

    Anthem BC/BS, KY (Blue Access)

It is because you have ANTHEM BCBS. She has a different state blue cross that is not an ANTHEM state. I have heard Anthem is really good about covering it. I just got my surgery date today It is Feb 6th and I have anthem as well.

    What's a filter?

For me, it was removed due to my age, when you are a closer to your 50s they leave them in, I guess there can sometimes be scar tissue that causes a clot around the filter so in my case it will be removed. I think it depends on your own personal situation and your MD.

    What's a filter?

Hi I had my first filter last year after getting massive pulmonary emboli in both lungs. Due to my age ( 36) they removed it about 3 months later. I remain on coumadin therapy. Now that I am having more surgery I had to have the filter put back in which I have already done. They will take it out again after the lap band surgery. It is an easy procedure, they give you conscious sedation so you dont remember it and usually just need a band-aid to cover the insertion point. With the history in your family, I am not surprised they want you to have one. Good Luck!
