  1. Haha, I kind of look at it the same...I don't want ppl to think I'm a junkie but the feeling is kind of fun! (after as many surgeries as I've had, you have to find a bright side to it....) so I always try to fight going to sleep and it makes me giggly. Also for nausea they have a great shot for that they can put in the IV that works wonders! So if you're nauseous, ask for something for it. I've still never gotten physically sick from surgeries, whenever I got nauseous they'd give me a shot and it would go away. :)

Thanks for the tip! I will mention that when I go in for surgery! I definitely agree.. it is fun. What a great nap!! :D

  2. I'm being banded in May. I have never had to be put under, and I am *SO* scared of that! If any of you would calm my fears of this, I'd LOVE that. I'm a smoker of about 1 1/2 packs a day too..I'm trying to quit before the surgery but it's really really hard. Help me to not be so scared of going under please..Also, did any of you dream or anything while you were out?

I have to agree with a lot of the posts here. I have been put under twice and it's not nearly as bad as you think. When I had my wisdom teeth taken out, I was really nervous and cried before surgery. But, they inject the Fluid and you are OUT within seconds. After that surgery, I woke up and was really loopy. I was saying all kinds of crazy stuff, but that was also because my whole face was numb and I was so confused by that I started laughing and then I would start crying. At the time, not so funny, but now it's pretty hilarious to think about. I basically went home and slept it off. However, I did get very sick and threw up for 24 hours between sleeping.

My second time being put under was just three months ago for orthopedic surgery. I was on the operating table and a few seconds later I was out like a light. I woke up in recovery and they were asking me about my pain. Then, I fell back to sleep and woke up in my room. I was still a little loopy after that surgery and remember singing the subway $5 foot long song and saying "okaly dokaly" a lot! haha. They gave me a pepcid before that surgery, so no nausea afterward - thank God! It really isn't nearly as bad as you think. It's like a great nap. Good luck with your surgery and don't worry at all! I'm looking forward to my great nap for my surgery!!

  3. I am just days away now and I need to hear suggestions from u lapband pro's out there. What do I need to do to have the most success under the knife and a speedy recovery. I am in the OR on Tuesday and really need to will myself to test at school on Thursday. Is this completely unrealistic? Can I just work out hard the next week or something and help my recovery time move along quicker? I need all the tips and tricks out there! HELP. THANKS EVERYONE.

I am having my surgery the day after you and will be starting a new job the following Monday. I was also very nervous about not being ready to go back to work on time. I called my surgeon's office and they basically said everyone is different, but lap-band is one of the easiest in regards to recovery time. The number one suggestion was walking, walking, walking! Walk as much as possible after surgery will help with the gas and will get you feeling back to normal. I've also heard using gas-x strips and a heating pad because the gas is killer after surgery - I am very worried about that! I wish I could offer you more reassurance, but I am in the same boat you are. Good luck!!!

  4. Hi everyone!

I am new to this forum and have really enjoyed reading all of your posts so far! I was recently approved for surgery and will be getting my band on May 11th with Dr. Diaz at St. Vincent hospital in Carmel, IN. I am VERY excited!

However, I have a question about recovery time. The day after I received my surgery date, I received an offer for a new job. Unfortunately, they need me to start on May 16th - only 5 days after surgery! I am really worried that this will not be enough time for recovery and I will have to cancel my surgery. :( I called my surgeon's office to get more information, but they didn't offer much. I spoke with a nurse that I was unfamiliar with and she kind of laughed when I told her I would need to return to work so soon. This made me even more nervious than I was before! She transferred me to my doctor's Physician Assistant, but I have been playing phone tag with her for a few days and have yet to receive a response.

I know everyone's experience is different, but I wanted to see how it was for everyone else. How long was it before you returned to work or felt like you COULD return to work? Any input would be greatly appreciated. I feel like I have waited for this for a very long time and would hate to have to postpone it indefinitely! My new boss is aware that I will be having surgery and has agreed to work with me if I have complications, but I really don't want to miss any necessary training.

Also - any recipes/recommendations from Protein Shakes are also welcome! :)

    Thanks!
