  1. I actually talked to my nutritionist, whom I am seeing once a month. We decided that 58 kgs (128 lbs) will be fine. I have no idea what I'll look like then. I don't remember being that light in my life; the lightest I have ever been at high school was 148 (overweight anyway for my height).

This way I shouldn't have much fat left and won't be insulin resistant. I am 166 cm (which should be 5.45 feet).

  2. Hello optasia!

Of course it's your choice, but what I can tell you from my personal experience is that I can sleep well. An example: I woke up past 11 this morning. I wake up at 8 every morning and get my nice 9 hours of sleep every night (I don't have kids yet). I had problems with sleeping the first 2 weeks, because of the scars, but that's it.

I am not even 2 months out and I already go to parties. I try almost everything, just in very small amounts.

I have lost 15 kgs/33 lbs and I already like myself so much, I can't believe it's me the one in the mirror! The thing is, I don't miss food, I am just not interested anymore. I can compare myself to my skinny friends now, the ones who are full with a small amount of food and never talk about it.

I really don't feel like I am missing things. I actually feel like I have a lot of time to concentrate on stuff other than food!

I was lucky with my in-laws (mother-in-law in very understanding, my father-in-law was and still is in Afghanistan, so no-one told him), maybe yours will be understand too... You never know!

  3. Hello and welcome to the losers' bench!

I don't know exactly why you feel so good but I think it's a great way to start your journey!

It may depend on your age, as you said. I remember that when I was between 19 and 25 I never slept, always out partying and clubbing and being stupid and even managed to get my degree on time. Now I need 2 friggin days to recover from a night out clubbing and drinking (I mean, until 2 months ago before I got sleeved, no way I am going out drinking right now!) and I am only 30!

Anyway, enjoy your weight loss and I wish you to keep feeling this good!

  4. I don't even know what "starch" means, so I can't help you with that.

I just can tell you that I was worried too right after surgery. I could drink so much (a part from pure water): hot Soups, tea, broth, Protein Drinks, .. I even LOVED my Protein shakes!

I too felt like I could eat anything, I was craving the weirdest food ever (do you know what tortellini are? Well, I was dying for them). Then I stopped my liquid diet and started with pured food and there I realized I really had the sleeve done. With "real" food the cravings stopped. There are days where I might think about something special (today it is chocolate, for example, because I bought some for a friend this morning), but most of the times I don't.

This is my experience, but I read more than once people being worried about the same thing. I really wouldn't worry too much. Enjoy your liquids because with real food it is going to be harder...

  5. Tiffykins, you are right.

When I told mine he was horrified. Completely against it. He too likes round girls but... It was the right choice. And he still is like before (he needed a couple of weeks to adjust to the idea of me losing weight), ou relationship hasn't changed a bit: still fighting, arguing, having sex, having fun. Last Sunday he even said: "You really made the right choice". I think he enjoys the fact that I am not obsessed with food anymore and that I don't hate myself anymore.

If YOU are convinced that it's the right choice at some point he will understand. Explain your reasons. Tell him how you've been fighting this problem all your life and that he can ask you any question he likes. That you need his support. Maybe if he feels somehow involved in your decision (and not having the decision just "dropped" on his head) he will be more understanding...

  6. Thank you for sharing. It amazing to hear that you don't regret doing it, even 2 years later. And that you are doing fine, keeping your weight etc etc. It is great, especially for us who just started or are going to start their journey soon.

And yes! We all do love the before and after pics!

    Thanks again!!!

  7. Kimmyegg, people were telling me the same. I started with a BMI of 34/35, I had to go abroad and pay everything on my own but I am SO happy I did it. My family was annoying and against it but they have now realized that I made the best choice for my health. I have 81 lbs to lose altogether, I could have never done it on my own.

I started with 209 lbs and have to reach 128 (more or less, I count in kgs, so I was 95 and want to be 58). I am 166cm or 5'4''.

I can tell you that I am really happy with the choice I made.

  8. I don't think the size of your stomach is what matters, if you aren't hungry, if you eat no more than 800 calories... Nothing has probably stretched! Well, it isn't the size of the stomach that makes you stall! They normally are combined factors like the amount of calories, the quanity of meals, the amount of exercise, the type of food you eat,.. And the fact that your body is adjusting to all the news it received!

It probably is "just" a stall, it is annoying that it happened so early! But, as you probably read when other people met the stall, talk to your nutritionist, try to increase your exercises and do not give up! The scale will move again!

29 puonds in just over a month aren't bad at all!!!

  9. They even made me take off my wedding ring... It's all metal and you can't have it on, in case something goes wrong and they need to use the defibrillator. Of corse nothing will go wrong, it's a very remote possibility, but still I don't think you want to risk it! Nipples are VERY close to where the defribillator should be used...

When I had my tongue pierced I used plastic piercings instead of the metal ones... Why don't you ask in the shop if they can change them? You don't know exactly when your surgery will be, right? I'd let them heal more and when you get closer to the your date I'd go for plastic.

It's just an idea... Check with your surgeon first, it surely isn't the first time he's got to deal with piercings!

  10. I have diabetes 1 so for me s/f stuff is compulsory, but I think that that helps you a lot with your diet. The first months you are supposed to lose a large amount of weight, so why should you get extra calories from sugar, when you can get the same things sugar free?

And I read that many people, being obese, also get diabetes 2, which does go away after a great weight loss, so I guess it's just better for everyone, diabetes or not, to keep the sugar level down...

Sugar causes cravings as well and you don't want that either.

(btw in the morning I do have some sugar, because of my bloodsugar being very low at that time: I have a light pudding sweetened with artificial sweeteners AND sugar, but it only has 95 kcal. This hasn't killed my diet at all, I guess if you do things in moderation you are fine)

  11. You did great going back and getting your money back!

At least hair grows back! Have you found another hairdresser that can help you out? Look what I found online (naybe you've done your research too, but it seemed like a good idea: http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=104677 )

Or here you get a free blow dry coupon with a hair cut and restyle: http://www.qype.co.uk/place/1657583-The-Beauty-Spot-Salons-Abu-Dhabi

You are not alone anyway! My hairdresser decided to try a new dyeing technique on me. The result: I've got pink hair on half of my head. I didn't really notice at the beginning, I thought it was more like mahogany, until everyone I met was like: "Wow, you've got pink hair now!".

I'm going to a wedding in April, so I guess I am going to buy a cheap colour at the supermarket and dye my hair brown again...
