  1. G'day all.

Ok this is new to me, I am now having major whole body sweat after eating anything, I had 3 oz of salmon and within 10 minutes I am socked through my T-shirt almost like I had stepped out of the shower fully clothed.

    Anyone else have this happening.

Also we went out for dinner and I had a mouthful of white wine out of my wife's glass and it caused extreme stomach pain/ache, I had my operation back in April so it can't be wound healing issues.

Ideas and others with similar issues please

    Cheers Malcolm

  2. G'day all

Well it's 7 weeks tomorrow since my sleeve and I'm down 80 pounds, eating either fish or chicken 3 times a day and now doing the gym twice a day as my wife gets up to go to gym near her office I now get up and go to local gym too and the treadmills are empty at 5 am, my eyes aren't fully open but the work out is great and it's cool in there at that time, then when I pick her up at 7 pm we go to the gym again and I hit the treadmill again and do 3 miles on it in an hour, to doing about 6+ miles per day now.

The biggest thing is to make sure I drink all the time I'm there, finding out that I loose better when Fluid is going in as fast as it comes out, I made the mistake of weighing myself before and after at the gym and it was the same but at home after changing and a shower I had lost 2 pounds that day after the two gym visits.

I'm drinking Water with some lemon juice in it, getting in 140 oz a day minimum now, energy level is good if I get enough Protein in otherwise I feel drained but still do those workouts, I tried walking the streets now that the weather is improving but the sidewalks are just so uneven that my bad knees and ankles can't handle the strain of the uneven surfaces.

Going to start riding our bikes this weekend if the weather holds up.

    Cheers Malcolm

  3. Gday all

Well I posted earlier on this and my update today at 6 1/2 weeks post op recovery has been great, my back has almost healed up from the damage from lack of blood flow due to extremely long surgery to remove lap band and be sleeved, for those who don't know it took 8 hrs to remove and repair damage and then sleeve me.

Pre op weigh in I was 435 lbs today I'm down to 366.9 lbs it's been a struggle at time no energy some days just want to be couch potato, but still managing to get 1 hr at gym per day on treadmill doing average of 3 mile in the hr, best was 3.7 miles worst was 1.4 that day just walked so slow no energy at all.

I'm drinking about 140 oz of Water a day and getting in close to 90 grams of Protein in a day also, been trying to get some fruit in but found watermelon hard to get in, been eating loads of blueberries and blackberries with yogurt .

    Cheers Malcolm

  4. Where do I start I was sleeved on April 20th took 8 hrs due to many issues found while removing my lapband, on road to recovery and it's been a great 4 weeks post op, loosing weight so fast and walking 4 miles a day now, I'm 57 pounds down now since pre op weigh in.

I started out at 447 on first consult in Feb and we decided my band was to tight so in April tried to unfill it but port had fliped so Dr requested urgent repair/revision with insurance company got approval the next day and booked in 6 days later.

I didn't get a chance to think about worrying it happened so fast.

After 12 years of my band which worked for me for about 7 of them I was now free from it and sleeved and enjoying my new life every day so much more now as those pounds I gained come off and my new body comes to life once again.

Cheers Mal and Aussie Up Over is Fremont CA

  5. G'Day All

Well it's only a few days since I last posted but wanted to share my weight loss so far, as of Today 5/3/11 I am 34 pounds down post op just 14 days post op and loosing well. been making sure to get my Vitamins in and also plenty of Proteins in, I'm getting almost 140 oz of fluids a day, some of that is the the broth still and Jello but Dr is happy with my progress after a very long and hard operation. <div><div></div><div>weight.png</div><div></div></div>

  6. G'Day All

Well it is the 10th day since my surgery and currently loosing at 3 pounds a day average, a Lot more than I expected , doing fine getting in 100 grams Protein per day plus almost 100 oz Water.< /p>

I know that this will slow down but I am under dr's orders due to the major damage my stomach had suffered from previous operations I am on 4 weeks of the clear Fluid diet, I think that I will loose fast for these 4 weeks atleast.

I have been walking between 1 and 2 miles per day, since I got home 1 week ago.

Surgery took 8 hrs to remove the old lap-band and repair all the damage to my stomach area, my Dr was so tired after it and still had another one to do after me, my op was at 11.30 am I was pushed into my room at 11.30 pm and he came by at 1 am to see how I was doing, he expected me to spend easter in hospital due to the long operation but to his and the staffs amazement I was up walking Thursday morning and showered , walked the ward 3 times thursday and again friday morning he came by with a smile saying are you ready to go home I said hell yes , the care there was the best I have ever had in a hospital the staff so friendly and caring.

OK my Dr was Dr Cirangle from LAPSF and was operated on at California pacific medical center in sf.

Ok wednesday was my 1 week post op check up and weigh in and in those 7 days post op I had lost 20 pounds from the weight I was in pre op.

I'm loosing faster than I did with my lapband in 1999 and then I was loosing 2 pounds a day for 8 weeks, I may just loose weight fast I'm not sure but diets never worked like this and this I know was the best choice ever I have made in my life.

    Cheers Malcolm

  7. G'Day All

Well found out today that my Dr's office hasn't sent in my stuff to insurance as they don't have the required paperwork for a Dr's supervised 6 months of diet and exercise, they never said anything about this before today and I have paid for all the tests and so on to be done expecting to be done later this month from what the Dr had said on my first consult.

My band to me has slipped but the woman on the phone from Dr's office says that the report says band is OK, yet I have a copy of all my adjustments and upper GI work on CD and looked at the films myself (I know I'm no Dr but after 12 years of adjustments I can read them ) and the pouch and band have moved since june last year 1 month post op new band.

I am so upset and frustrated with all the stuff I have been through these past 2 years health wise this was the nail in the coffin for me I think.

It's so upsetting to be told one thing by the office staff one day then the week later another says a thing totally the opposite.

    Regards Malcolm

  8. G'Day AllWell I have had my band for 12 years , it was put in in Melbourne Australia back in May 1999, and has now failed and I've done all the stuff for the insurance now waiting for the approval to get the revision done from Lapband to sleeve. My band failed several years ago account a hiatus hernia which damaged my band and stomach really well, had that repaired 1 year ago and they tried a new band but it isn't working like the old one did as I lost 367 pounds with my old band this band I have gained never lost with,so I decided to research the sleeve and found Dr Cirangle and just waiting on the OK now for the op.I have gained back in the past 3 years due to no insurance or a job almost 200 pounds, I joined a gym and have been going the last 2 weeks to loose the 20 pounds that I have to pre op started out slow on tread mill 30 minutes at 2 miles per hr, as of yesterday I am doing 1 hr and walking at 3.2 miles per hr on the incline course which goes from 0 to 4 % and back again 6 times in the hr and my heart rate gets up to 140, and my cardiologist checked that I could handle this Ok and is very happy as in 2 weeks I have lost 18 pounds.I am off to the Gym today again and found some people there who like myself are large and chat with them while we work out. Anyone in Newark California area who goes to 24 hr fitness I am normally there between 10 am and 11 am on a treadmill, come join me and share stories.Cheers Aussie malcolm

  9. G'Day Stacy

It's a long story I'll shorten a little many things came into it, I kept my weight off for almost 3 1/2 years but had not had an adjustment for almost 3 years when I lost my job and had no insurance and at the same time my wife was out of work also, so several things I think caused the gain the biggest being stress not knowing where we would come up with money for the bills let alone the $500 fee for an adjustment my dr charged also the fee for the flouroscopy to find my port and also check on the restriction, so I gained back about 60 pounds while I was out of work then, I got a job andI stopped gaining weight for a while then after 1 1/2 years there the economy crashed and I lost my job again this time I had insurance through my wife and went to see about a knee injury and ened up doing physio therapy to strengthen it and my back up, when one day I was rushed to the ER in extreme pain well they did tests lots of them all showing multiple problems but the urgent one was a very large gall bladder filled with 3 large stones which was the cause of the major pain they thought, well that was fixed and 6 more operations in the following 7 months I had the other issues fixed including the hiatus hernia and lapband replaced. I gained weight lots of it being unable to walk or exercise for almost 14 mths and meds caused Fluid retention also so I was starting to look like my old self back in 1999, www.lapbandtransformation.com . since then and seeing the Dr about the sleeve we have found out the new band is not in the right place or position so it doesn't let food out of the pouch completely. o enough of this I decided that theSleeve is what I want ASAP.

I want my life back again and hoping that once I am small again I will get hired by some firm.

So that is the shortest I could write about what went wrong.

The Band didn't fail truly I failed the band by not maintaining the Dr's visits and adjustments I know it would still be working had I done that basic thing.

    regards Aussie Malcolm

Welcome to our site Malcolm...there are many people on her that have had revision surgery from Band to Sleeve, there's even a thread just for Band to Sleeve revisions. Take a look at the posts there...Very informative!

I came on here looking for answers since I was going to actually have the Band done, but after reading all the post and understanding the complications of the Band, I have decided to have the Sleeve surgery. I'm still in the process of getting approval and all my paperwork together so I cant really answer your questions, but I have a question for you, if you dont mind..... If you do, it's understandable!

If you were so successful on the band, how/why did you gain so much weight back?

    Stacy

  10. G'Day all

Yes as my topic title says I am a bandster had my Band put in in Australia in May 1999, it had worked really well for many years I went from 567 pounds in 1999 to 202 in November 2003 then got married and move from Australia to the USA I kept the weight off for about 2 more years well, but due to work and stress I slowly gained some back not much at all and I wasn't worried as I could loose it, then lost my job went to a new firm all was well there untill early 2009 when the economy caused that issue again No job, found out that sometime in the last few years I had developed a Hiatus hernia which had damaged the placement of my band and I was gaining weight hand over fist, and no adjustments would stop it, so in early 2010 I finally had insurance again and decided to get looked at for multiple issues one being a knee injury that was getting treated when I developed a major pain in my abdomen on the right side ended up in the ER to find out I had several hernia's and a major cluster of stones in my Gall Bladder they removed the gall bladder in emergency surgery that day, 4 weeks passed and small hernia repairs done then 5 weeks more had the lapband /hiatus hernia repaired and they put a new band in well 7 adjustments later and no sign of restriction yet, they did tests band looks fine but found out pouch has to be 2/3 rds full before food passes through band so after many Dr's visits found a Dr who I like and want to convert me from Band to sleeve and get this weight back off and find that guy who I was in 2003 again.

I'm missing Jobs account my size I am sure.

Well, I have completed 3 weeks of the pre-op diet with a few small cheats. I did not go all out and eat a whole chocolate cake like my mind kept telling me I wanted to, but I did have a pinch of my husbands milky way bar one night, and a few bites of cheesy enchilada. I also went over on the ounces of steak I was supposed to eat one night b/c it was so yummy. Also, one night I skipped the whole program dinner meal and swapped it for a roast beef sub and french onion soup....that was early on though. I have been good for the most part and I even miss some of the meals here and there b/c I don't have the time to fit them in. I have lost 16 lbs in the three weeks and hopefully I will get a few more off the following week and then my surgery is March 15th. I have to do a bowel prep (mag citrate) the night before...which I have never done before. Wondering what that will be like... Anyway, I haven't been perfect but pretty good with the diet and this week I will try to be extremely strict since I am one week from surgery. I am glad I started early and have not been treating every meal as the last supper. By the way, in case anyone is wondering here is a typical day of my pre-op diet

Breakfast 8 oz skim milk, 1/2 scoop Protein powder, 4 oz fruit

mid-morning premade Protein shake (been drinking premier with 30 grams protein)

lunch 6-8 oz plain greek yogurt, non-fat, 4 oz fruit

  13. G'Day all

I have a site with my lapband story on it , I haven't updated it in years but here is a link to my story and how I did back then , and you will see some pic's of my journey along the way also.

I have been involved in some research also and in doing so found out that the band starts to have problems between 6 and 8 years I did well to get mine to last 11 years all be it that it failed a few years earlier but stuck it out as long as I could with no Insurance till my wife got a great firm to employee her, we have Empire Blue / bluecross-blueshield

I didn't know how bad my band was till late 2009 when I was being treated for a knee and lower back problem and was at physical therapy doing exercise for it and pulled my right knee up into my chest and got a sharp pain, ended up in the Er with my gallbladder being removed 2 hernia op's followed a couple of weeks later then lower back surgery for a cystic growth, and then my hiatus hernia-lapband revision all in one, yep I had a very busy 7 1/2 months with 7 op's and also angiogram for a chest pain, and endoscopy & colonoscopy in there to.

Yep my wife for a while was seeing me less than the hospital nurses she said.

    LOL,

I'll make this work every bit as well as my lapband did.

    Cheers mal

I gained back due to meds and also a very bad hiatus hernia which had the better part of my stomach and band above the diaprham ? and putting stress on all my organs due to the stomach being where it shouldn't be my band had also slipped slightly due to this.

And as I had no insurance at the time and no way to have it repaired I just lived with it, Last year I had 7 operations which also stressed out me and my body more so weight gain was also caused from the stress.

  15. G'Day All

Well as the title says I'm a bandster had my first band put in back in 1999 and it worked a dream and I losts over 350 pounds with it but it started failing a few years ago and I was slowly gaining weight, well April 2010 had the band replaced due to several medical problems the major was a hiatal hernia which had damaged my bands placement which caused me many medical issues from that well after multiple adjustments that are not cheap on this new band I have decided to get the sleeve done.

Pre band I was 567 pounds in 1999 my lowest weight with the band was in November 2003 before wedding I stood on the Dr's scales at 197 pounds but now back at 410 and so upset with myself for letting it get this far out of control.

Have only just started the ball rolling to get the sleeve but know that I will get it done and my wife is also thinking about it now also.

I have read many postings about it and how it has changed so many peoples lives, of which 95% are women well I'm a Male and would love some feed back on the success of males out there also, I used to be the poster guy for the Lap-band and was a guest speaker in 2004 due to my success I just hope that I can make this work as well.

    Cheers Mal
