  1. It was really hard for me too Angel. I was sleeved 12/29, and was pretty compliant, but did enjoy a small Christmas dinner with the family. It felt really good to hear from my family that my liver looked great and the surgeon thought I must have done really well on the pre-op. It facilitated an easier surgery. Honestly, for me the immediate recovery has been tougher than I thought it would be and I had NO troubles/issues whatsoever. I cannot imagine how it is for folks who do have issues. Hang in there. You are almost there!

  2. Marci,

Another kinda weird thing is the drain is out of one of the "upper" incisions. Mine is under my right breast. They do most of the work from the lower incisions, so I thought that would be where the drain was, but it is in one of the upper openings.

  3. I am sorry for asking such a personal question, but I am wondering if I will ever poo again? I have not since surgery on Tues. I am a bit reluctant to take the Miralax because I do not want to create havoc in the whole tummy zone, but I do not want a lot of strain to cause an issue either. Thanks for answering and your constant reassurance....

Never thought I would be chatting about this one! :w00t:

  4. I have one for a week. Will get it out next week. I agree with Anneartica & Bill, there is a lot of drainage. The day or so after surgery it had 50ish ml each day. I think it helps to keep the site clear. It doesn't hurt, but is kinda a nuisance. I am a bit afraid I am going to hook it and pull it out. I put the "hose" inside my pants, a tip from another on this site, and that helps. I also have read about some have had pockets of drainage at the incision area due to accumulation, and this keeps that from occurring. It is worth the inconvenience to me. Just my opinion.

  5. Chi-Chic,

Wow, I have only had two bouts where I actually threw-up, lots of feeling like I "need to," but I am so sorry you are having such a struggle. I try and tell my mind when I am on the verge of urping, "You just worked for 2 hours to drink that Protein so your body can heal, DO NOT THROW UP!" I also burp - A LOT. It seems like if I can get the pressure to subside, it reduces the urge to throw up. However, if anything comes up with the burp, then I lose my Cookies. Sorry to be so graphic, but only on this site do we share these intimate details, right?I hope you are feeling better today! I am wondering if I will ever poo?

  6. WOW. I feel so, so SOOOO, much better today. Got up this morning and was rearing to go! (I still could burp or toot a sailor under the table, but could laugh about it today!) Yesterday, it was hard to see the roses, so much better today! I went to bed about 7 and I think the rest was a gift. I guess after all the abdominal anesthetic and the better pain-killers from the hospital dissipate, the real "ouch" sets in. I am glad I stayed in Dallas for those couple of days. I stopped every 45 mins. on the drive home today and am now ready for a nap. I look about 3 months prego today. Thanks for all of your support through the rough time. I did it! YEAH! What a great start for 2010!

  7. I am having such a hard time geting the liquids in.So weird for me to say this. So far today I have had about 12 oz. I totally get why people like the bullet Protein so that you do not have to swallow as much volume. My left shoulder - actually the whole left side of my head - feels like it has been knifed. I will nap for a while and then it will get better. I am just believing that by Sunday, I will feel so much better. .... Talk to ya'll soon.

  8. Well, I am on the other side. I had a really rough night. I have a lot of nausia (sp) and am hte queen of burping - it is so lovely. I felt better at the hospital, but I thhink part ofit is I am off the Morphine drip - I miss that little fellow. My tummy is really swolen - looks like about 5-6 mos. prego. I will post a bit later, feeling puny, but I know I will be a bit stronger tomorrow. I did't feel up to driving to ausitn, so I am still in Dallas, but am hoping to head home tomorrow. Thanks so much for th e well wishes - YOu are the best. Talk tp you soon.

  9. Well, my day is almost here! Tomorrow I am traveling about 3 or so hours to my Dallas for my surgery on Tues., 12/29. Just wondering, besides the "usual," was there anything you wished you would have packed for post-op? I have my hubbie and lip balm packed - these seemed like the essentials but thought there might be some other goodies I should take? All of my p.j's have elastic waists, is that going to work? Thanks for your help. I am nervous as a cat, but have gotten so much encouragement from all of you. THANKS SO MUCH for sharing your stories.

  10. Anna,

Hope you are resting after yesterday's travels. But, look at you - traveling only a few days after the procedure. So glad you are home and healin'. Are you able to take anything for the allergies to help? I take allergy shots, and before the shots, I will take an Alavert - they dissolve (taste like baby aspirin) and are basically Claritin. My allergies are nuts right now too, Cedar is doing its thing. Hope to see you on the 29th.

  11. Theresa,

You crack me up. Merry Christmas, I know next Christmas, your skinny-behind will be laughin' as your recall this holiday, and as you enjoy the tamales with your family. You have showed so much determination by beginning your journey before the holiday. I am ready for my day next week. Enjoy the smells and the strengh your body is showing to heal this season. I am sooo proud of you! (Keep the knives hidden for another week or so.)

  12. Theresa,

My loving hubbie has given me a cold from hell, so I am hoping that all the ickiness subsides by next week. I went to the store and found some cold medicine without all the "things" we aren't allowed to take, like asperin.... My hubbie is not the best nurse, so I am glad to have my daughter. She is a "get things done" kind of kid, so I know she will be measuring and monitoring me to death. I am getting more excited and less scared - sure my story will change, but I am ready. I will probably travel to Dallas on 28th and plan to return to Austin on the 31st - early. Want to beat the NYEve crazies.

  13. Theresa,

Hang in there. I know I would be the exact same way. I am thinking about having my daughter, she is going to take care of me the first few days, put the scale away for right after surgery. I kinda feel like that in this pre-op time. I have lost maybe 2 pounds. I have not been perfect, but my tummy is growling right now. I guess the Tiffkins is right, it is a long race, and you are just at the onset. I know you will get those pounds off. Hang in there, bud! Inch by inch, pound by pound we will get there!

  14. Theresa,

Thanks for sharing. I think you are right to take it at your pace. I had laproscopic shoulder surgery a few years ago - and tended to not think of it as "real" surgery. Learned and know this is REAL SURGERY. For 6 months after my shoulder surgery, I thought I had messed up, because my shoulder hurt MORE than before the surgery, but NOW....

Wow, wish I had had both of them done (though I don't know how I would have wiped my hiney). I know you are going to get stronger and feel better each and every day. Hang in there! Thinking of you.....

  15. RCarter 76,

Thanks so much for the encouragement. It is good to have the support of others who have "been there." I am in Austin, but am having my procedure done in Dallas. My daughter is there and it was a bit more affordable. I guess there are a lot more bariatric procedures done in Dallas and Houston, my surgeon said Austin was "too fit." Sure hope I am one of those folks one day. I am scheduled for 12/29, since I am off work at that time. Thanks again for your post!

  16. Midwest and Thinoneday,

Thanks so much for your encouragement. It is good to hear it is not "all that uncommon." I am now on day 2 of the pre-op diet, and I am just trying to keep putting one foot in front of the other to make this journey. I think the nurse is suppose to call tomorrow, so I will post what I find out. My guess is maybe some additional tests like MWGirl went through? We'll see. It was really helpful to have your replies! Thanks.
