    Dry heaves

Day 3 and 5 were really rough for me, MidWestGirl. Really. I was deep into buyers remose at those days. I only had the dry heaves twice, but that was more than enough. I hope and pray your visit with the doc goes smooth today. Hang in there. I am 8 days out and still feel super "sore" in the whole ab zone, but I absolutely feel so much better each day. I have not had the nausea meds in 3 or so days, and no pain meds in the last 4 days. I still take pepcid and GasX though.

    Really Great Moment

Linda, Thanks for sharing. It is so helpful to hear from you. Like I said, I am not sure I know what full is, since it is so different that my pre-surgery full feeling. It is nice to know that the "rumbling" will subside. Do you ever feel just "tight" behind your boobs? Barb
  3. I was sort of reluctant to really tell anyone at work. Of course all my close friends and family knew about my decision to get the sleeve. I was mainly reluctant because I was afraid I too might fail at this - just like I failed at WW, Jenny Craig, The Zone, Ediets - I could go on and on! I am only ONE week out, and I know I will have issues, stalls, etc..., but at this initial stage what I can say is my reality now is NOT that I think I won't lose, but that will lose too much. Really. Today was the first day I moved to full liquids, and I could not eat more than 1/2 cup of soup. That's it. I know the sleeve is just a tool, and if I pigged out on icecream.... I could sabbotage it. But this is the first time in a LONG time, I think I might actually be successful. I might not be on a diet in 2011. It will change the way you eat, without question.

    Really Great Moment

Breekahouse - YOU WILL get there. Heck, I did not buy a thing at the mall today, but I actually thought, "one day I could come back here and shop." The last jeans I tried to buy were at the Gap, their largest size 16 was too tight, so I went home and ordered some off Ebay, because I did not want to have to go into another store. I am really busty so tops are a nightmare too. Thanks everyone for sharing with me! Anna, I am not sure I really know "what full feels like?" Like I said, it is not a pleasant feeling like pre-op, more like a gurgly feeling that feels kinda like a warning. ThinOneDay eats a bit beyond that - plugs on, I was too scared - thought urping in the mall might make it a "less than splendid day, you know?" Kermit, I too hope we can all meet at some point, I'll be the burpy one. This is the best list to have support as we figure this out. It means the world to know you are not alone.
  5. I am sorry for asking such a personal question, but I am wondering if I will ever poo again? I have not since surgery on Tues. I am a bit reluctant to take the Miralax because I do not want to create havoc in the whole tummy zone, but I do not want a lot of strain to cause an issue either. Thanks for answering and your constant reassurance.... Never thought I would be chatting about this one! :w00t:
  6. MidwestGirl,

I know I am too late for you to get this before your procedure, but know I am saying a little prayer for you and I hope your surgeon's skill help you to have a successful and problem-free sleeve. I look forward to hearing from you as soon as you are able. Cyber hugs!

  7. I hired a trainer for 6 months prior to the procedure, so I could get as much muscle toned as I could. I plan on going back to him once I am able. However, I know he "ain't got the magic to fix my tummy." Keep in mind I am much older and in will celebrate my 30th wedding anniversary this summer. So I am at a different place in my life, but I am just fixing one thing at a time. If I have saggy skin for a while, I know I worked hard to earn it. I know I will look to this list for support when and if I decide to remove it at some later time. I know I want to wait a long time and really settle into a constant weight and be healthy before any more surgery.
  8. I guess what I think has already been voiced. It has got to totally be your decision, I think if a friend wanted you to do it and you were reluctant, then you shouldn't. I think it is a very scary sounding procedure. My hubbie was worried I might not comply with all the post-op rules and be sick or damage the sleeve. I guess I would try and believe that she is less-informed than you and believes you can do it with diet and exercise - which fails for 97% of folks in the long run. I told my hubbie, "it was time to get busy living or get busy dying." I wanted to live a long, active life with him and our one-day grandchildren. I feel this surgery will make that a much greater possibility. Again, Stephanie, it is your body and it is permanent. Decide what feels right to you, she will come around.
  9. Rachel,

I get my drain out tomorrow and took off Wed., so I am WIDE open on Wed. I would love to meet. Just let me know if that day works at all for you.

  10. Well, today was the big day for me, and that is 6 days post op. I took 2tbsp of Milk of Magnesia on Sat., then 4 tbsp on Sunday. Maybe it might be somewhat dependant on the amt. of pain meds you require? I milked that morphine drip for E-V-E-R-Y drop, so that might have been part of my issue. I also think I had some fear about contracting my abdominals and it being too much strain on my sleeve. It was all just fine-and-dandy. I did not, and have not had any issues with diarrhea, and that is a frequent issue for many. So I guess it really does just kinda depend on the person. I am very glad I was allowed to just have this occur at its pace which was slower than most.
  11. Linda,

Thanks so much for checking in on me. YES, Tues, I get drinkable yogurt & jello! Yesterday I was having a bit of a pity party. Just feeling like I would never feel “normal” again. I know it’s been less than a week. But today I feel better. I cannot wait to get my drain out - I think it is on Wed.! Happy New Year to you and your family!

  12. Yesterday I was having a bit of a pity party. Just feeling like I would never feel “normal” again. I know it’s been less than a week. I felt like I was just swallowing one pill or protein.... Today I feel better, both physically and my spirits. Actually your email where you said you almost felt normal gave me a lot of encouragement. Iam going in to work tomorrow, but it is just a workday - no students. I have already set up a sub or Tues, Wed., 1/2Thurs.

I am doing the FP plan. I am pretty excited about drinkable yogurt & cannot wait to get to the mushies - just sick of the fake sugar taste

I "hope" Wed. to get the drain out? Figure I will call tomorrow. Thanks so much for checking in on me!

    How are you doing?

  13. Theresa, I don't know about other hair loss, but another weight loss site had this quote: "A hair folicle has three phases: growth, degradation, and resting. It is during the resting phase, which can last anywhere from two to four months, that the hair strand falls out of the folicle--but it does grow back! Normally, we lose 50-100 strands of hair everyday. The stress of surgery causes our folicles to go into rest mode in greater, coordinated numbers, but eventually they will all come back on-line and begin to regrow your hair." That seems to be reassuring that the hair loss from the surgery should come back. It is stressful to think about. (I still thinking about a BM. : ) I am with you, a wig seems so uncomfortable to me. Barb
  14. Bless your heart, Deb. YOu must be miserable. I think God gave me your burps. I know you must feel like one of the NY floats in the Macy Parade. I do not have any advice, but am so sorry for this discomfort. I had been really hating my burps, I think I will rethink that today! It is a blessing indeed.
  15. Keep us updated, Rachel. It must be hard to know when something is "sleeve" or just another body issue? Yesterday, I was wondering when I would just feel "normal" again. I was not in any great discomfort, but just did not feel "right." Of course it has not even been a week for me. I hope you get a good report from the doctor. Sending you hugs across Mopac.
  16. WOW. I feel so, so SOOOO, much better today. Got up this morning and was rearing to go! (I still could burp or toot a sailor under the table, but could laugh about it today!) Yesterday, it was hard to see the roses, so much better today! I went to bed about 7 and I think the rest was a gift. I guess after all the abdominal anesthetic and the better pain-killers from the hospital dissipate, the real "ouch" sets in. I am glad I stayed in Dallas for those couple of days. I stopped every 45 mins. on the drive home today and am now ready for a nap. I look about 3 months prego today. Thanks for all of your support through the rough time. I did it! YEAH! What a great start for 2010!

    Worst pre-op diet ever!!!

It was really hard for me too Angel. I was sleeved 12/29, and was pretty compliant, but did enjoy a small Christmas dinner with the family. It felt really good to hear from my family that my liver looked great and the surgeon thought I must have done really well on the pre-op. It facilitated an easier surgery. Honestly, for me the immediate recovery has been tougher than I thought it would be and I had NO troubles/issues whatsoever. I cannot imagine how it is for folks who do have issues. Hang in there. You are almost there!
  18. MR Nick Sr. I totally agree. I will be so excited when I can actually go again. I am going with the Milk of Magnesia tonight. So, my fingers are crossed for tomorrow being a "big" day. So glad you did not have to be re-cathetered. Ughhh.....

    Drain

Marci, Another kinda weird thing is the drain is out of one of the "upper" incisions. Mine is under my right breast. They do most of the work from the lower incisions, so I thought that would be where the drain was, but it is in one of the upper openings. Barb
  20. How are you doing today? Just wanted to check in on you??

    Drain

I have one for a week. Will get it out next week. I agree with Anneartica & Bill, there is a lot of drainage. The day or so after surgery it had 50ish ml each day. I think it helps to keep the site clear. It doesn't hurt, but is kinda a nuisance. I am a bit afraid I am going to hook it and pull it out. I put the "hose" inside my pants, a tip from another on this site, and that helps. I also have read about some have had pockets of drainage at the incision area due to accumulation, and this keeps that from occurring. It is worth the inconvenience to me. Just my opinion.
  22. Your new pic, rocks! The marroon with your hair looks splendid!

  23. Chi-Chic, Wow, I have only had two bouts where I actually threw-up, lots of feeling like I "need to," but I am so sorry you are having such a struggle. I try and tell my mind when I am on the verge of urping, "You just worked for 2 hours to drink that protein so your body can heal, DO NOT THROW UP!" I also burp - A LOT. It seems like if I can get the pressure to subside, it reduces the urge to throw up. However, if anything comes up with the burp, then I lose my cookies. Sorry to be so graphic, but only on this site do we share these intimate details, right?I hope you are feeling better today! I am wondering if I will ever poo?

    New Year's Eve 2009 172 lbs

You look so beautiful, and tiny in the middle. I hope you felt as beautiful as you looked! WOW! (On NYE, I was in bed at 7:00, but just wait 'til NYE 2010!) : )
  25. Well, I am on the other side. I had a really rough night. I have a lot of nausia (sp) and am hte queen of burping - it is so lovely. I felt better at the hospital, but I thhink part ofit is I am off the Morphine drip - I miss that little fellow. My tummy is really swolen - looks like about 5-6 mos. prego. I will post a bit later, feeling puny, but I know I will be a bit stronger tomorrow. I did't feel up to driving to ausitn, so I am still in Dallas, but am hoping to head home tomorrow.
