  1. My hubbie and I have been asked to join a couple tonight for dim-sum. I have never had dim-sum, sounds like fun, but I am a bit at a loss as to what I will be able to eat. I am about 1 month out - eating soft foods - but not beef, pork, fried, rice, pasta..... You know what you eat at about a month. Any recommendations on what I might be able to order, sleevers? Thanks for helping me be prepared as I head out tonight!

    Chronic Constipation

Thanks Oregondaisy. I didn't realize that Iron was constipating. Maybe that is the issue. I take 29mg. daily, how about you?
  3. I am so proud of you and your accomplishments. Way to go, Theresa! Can't wait to see you on the 16th!
  4. Midwest,

So good to hear from you. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I had been out of town for a couple of days to attend a funeral. I feel like I am just rocking along. I am not the queen of losers, by anymeans, but it is all going down. That is good for me. Inch by inch, right? I am really liking the mushies, I still really prefer soups, and soft foods. I am kinda "done" with fish. I have been slacking about my protein the last two days, so I am sipping on my EAS right now. I really cannot get it in w/out supplements. I hope this finds you well. Can't wait to hear from you! Hope you are losing. BTW, family that I saw at the funeral, said I was "wasting away," which is their way of saying "good job, kid!"

    Chronic Constipation

Thanks Longhorn. Nothing personal, but I have always had a bit of an issue, whereas my hubbie thinks this is just "unfathomable." Mr. Regularity. So, it helps to see a gentleman is having some of this issue. I feel like I do not get much fiber since I am not eating much in the way of veggies or whole grains. Maybe once those are added back in, the situation will resolve. Thanks for the feedback, sleevebuddy! GO HORNS!
  6. It will go away. I am not a good pain manager, and I felt much the same way at the beginning. A lot of, "what have I done?" "When will this end?" "What if I feel like this forever?" Well, now I am am one month out tomorrow, and I feel great! Really. I know the first is tough, but in one month I have lost 23 lbs. I am tickled pink, and I know you will be too! Hang in there. Sip and walk, sip and walk.....
  7. You guys rock. Egg drop soup and dumplings sound like a go for me. At least I have a bit of power going into the new situation. It makes me feel so much better if I have bit of a "plan."
  8. Yes, fish is my friend too! Love tilapia, haven't tried shrimp.... Not trying it today!
  9. Well, I tossed my cookies today for the first time. I just ate two little bites of chile, but it was the first time I had had ground beef, and up it came. I guess the ground beef/turkey was just too much. I feel fine now, but oh, not happy for about 10 mins!
  10. Theresa, Do you really monitor your no-cal liquids. Can they "stretch" our pouch?
  11. Yes, yes, yes. I had not had "cravings" until the past two days, and it hit me that I am in my PMS zone. I also think I might have been a bit dehydrated. I drank non-cal drinks like a fiend yesterday, and today am feeling better. I think it is wise to stay away from that scale for a week. I wouldn't do anything with positive that information other than feel defeated. I usually gain like 7 pounds - a lot. You know I have been in a stall for a bit, but I bet after my period I drop like 7 lbs all at once. Hang in there!

    Week out

You know I had not had a lot of hunger/cravings UNTIL the past two days - I could have eaten a horse the past two days. I am about 3 weeks out, and I think I was dehydrated. Yesterday I drank A LOT of no cal beverages, and today my cravings are sooo much better. It also could just be my "cravy-time."

    help! - one week out

This might not be the right answer. This is just my experience. I am about three weeks out, and basically, I just drink what I want. I do not have any issue with liquids what so ever. I sip on a protein shake if it is acting as my meal, just to savor it a bit. But if I am adding protein to a crystal light or tea to get it in, I just sip away. I think it is important to stay hydrated, and drinking no-cal beverages is not what got me to need the sleeve, so I do not worry about it. I do not "believe" beverages can stretch the sleeve, I may be mistaken. Since my surgery I do not drink any carbonated beverages or coffee (because I used a lot of cream and sugar), but otherwise I do not really monitor the no-cal beverages the way I do my food.
  14. OK, this is paranoia, but know I can ask ya'll. How do you know if you have something "stuck" in your sleeve? I have read where some have had to have endoscopy (believe that is correct?), because of something stuck in your sleeve. Was it stuck in your throat or actually obstructing the sleeve? I accidentally did not chew a piece of fish very well yesterday, and my lil' head won't let it go.... I feel totally fine, but was curious how you knew that had something "stuck?"

You might have better luck than I, but I was told all OBESITY related stuff was a "pre-existing condition." I have been teaching 20 years, and I was not obese when I began. I almost would have been less frustrated if they had not covered this type of thing, rather than the "pre-existing" condition worn-out record used by insurance companies. With that said, I was a self-pay, and do not have any regrets.
  16. Thanks so much for sharing this. Really amazing how healthy the scar and the area around it look.

I am in Austin too. My surgery was in Dallas, but post what you think about the local person. It would be nice to have someone local if an issue arose....
  18. Jab925 I took an iron supplement and helped me loads!
  19. I have not done this yet, but I seems like it is just almost inevitable. I used to eat like lightning! I am so sorry. No fun. You had energy for walking, that is good. My energy is just in the toilet today, so I am going to try and take some Iron. I feel really foggy which is driving me nuts. Did you throw up familiar foods or did this occur when you tried something new?

    Ouch!

Anna, No fun. Glad it wasn't a sneeze. Might give Bea a call, but I remember that early on, Theresa posted that she was told that there might even be some "popping." So glad you are feeling better. I would be scared to death to hear a "pop."
  21. This is so weird. I was sleeved the same day, and I am EXHAUSTED today. I went to a basketball game yesterday, so I had a bit of a hard time getting my food in. I just woke up from a 2 1/2 hour nap - that is a nap! I feel kinda foggy too, I wonder if I am too low on my carbs? I hate this foggy head feeling. I am trying to eat a bit more than usual today. I hope it goes away after a day or two. Not fun.
  22. FUN! Hope you had a great time. Did you have energy and could you manage your food ok while traveling? That is a big accomplishment! Hope to see you on the 10th. I am pooped today, went to the UT basketball game yesterday. What a game! A really busy day still takes it out of me, just woke up from a 2 1/2 hour nap and feel better!

  23. Anna,

It is so good to hear from you. I hope you can make it to the 2/10 support meeting, I am planning to attend. I scheduled my 6 wk. w/ Nicholson on that date. If you can't I completely understand, I know it is a drive. I am so sorry to hear you are anemic. I am a tad worried about that too, I posted that I know we aren't suppose to begin calcium or iron until soft solids - is that the same as mushies? I don't know and am not sure if it is one or two either, I might just start w/ one and see how you tolerate it? I love those Viactiv chews - they are my 10;00 snack each day. I hope to see you soon and think of you all the time.

  24. I am on mushies. (I love the mushies. - sf popsicles are my best friend) I have energy, I'm losing fine for me (not crazy fast, but I am fine with the steady progress). I can try some soft solids now, and I don't like them. I had two bites of scrambled egg out of a breakfast taco, and I think the cook had laced them with lead. It felt like I swallowed buckshot. Tuna is ok, but I still have it pretty soupy and I would prefer soup. Is it bad to just stay on mushies, if you feel ok? For example, I still prefer applesauce that is thinned with applejuice rather than "straight" applesauce. I am a bit worried too that there is very little fiber in my diet. Thoughts?
  25. I guess one worry I had was I do not think I can begin my calcium or iron supplements until I am eating solids? I just do not want to delay those supplements and cause deficiency issues? Are mushies enough to accomodate adding those?
