  1. How did you feel 3 days post surgery? Could you RIDE, not drive in a car for a long distance? I know that walking around to prevent clots is very important but I wanted to see how many did travel in a car, for how long and how much it bothered you. I know they tell you not to drive for a while, I assume that is because of the medication. I would like to hear your experience with riding in a car at least 3 days after surgery. Thank you.
  2. Great post Rootman. Did you just follow your surgeon's advise or did you take it any further and restrict yourself more? I can relate to everything you mentioned. My surgery is the 25th and I cannot wait. The physical restriction is going to be a great help but I really want to develope that psychological mindset towards food.
  3. Hey Pasquini, I am not too far behind you, keep me posted on everything, I am getting a little anxious and ready to get this over with. Let me know if it is really clean on the inside of the clinic, everyone says the strip shopping center is old and dirty but is clean in the clinic, that is what i am concerned about. You will do great, can't wait to hear about your experience.
  4. Who is your surgeon, I am going to Dr. Almanza on 5-25.
  5. For all of the people that have recently been sleeved, what position do you sleep in? I have always slept on my left side and a little on my right side. I have never been able to sleep on my back or stomach. How have you been able to sleep since surgery and when did it become comfortable to sleep on your side again? Thanks.
  6. I have a question about compression/surgery socks. I have never had a surgery of any kind but it seems like a lot of hospitals use these , I guess to control blood clots. Did you use them pre-surgery, post surgery or both? Is it something you would use after you go home or just a day or two after surgery? What exactly do these do to prevent clotting, i understand compression but what is the thought process behind them. Thanks.
  7. I knew a lot of the risks of being obese including high blood pressure, risk of stroke and heart attacks. I just found another one and new for me, I was diagnosed with Diabetes today when I went in for my physical. My last blood panel was 5 years ago, it was not great but things have really changed for the worse over the last five years. I have not been on any medication for anything, ever. I talked with my primary about my upcoming surgery and we discussed medication. I have decided to hold off on the medication until after my surgery, i have read that the surgery has really helped people's blood sugar levels get back to normal. I am really hoping with eating properly and having the surgery, i will not have to go on the medication for Diabetes. I would like to hear from anyone out there that has some input about this or has gone through it. Did the surgery cure your diabetes or at least make it manageable with diet after the surgery? I have talked with my coordinator for my sleeve surgery and I have to get my glucose number down before my surgery on the 25th. If you have any input on the best way or options on how to do this, I would appreciate it. I know the main things such as cut out the sugar, carbs, starches and things like that will help my numbers. Will the pre-op liquid diet lower this number significantly or must I do more? I should have not been surprised by my numbers today but I was. When you hear your doctor tell you you have Diabetes , it is scary. It makes my decision to have this surgery much more important and urgent. I would encourage all people to have a blood panel if they have not had one recently. I DID NOT have ANY of the symptoms of diabetes. I had risk factors such as weight but that was all. Please give me your input, i would really appreciate it.
  8. I wanted to ask this question in post -op rater than in the Vitamin section because I wanted to see how you approached this post -op. Here is my question. I had a blood panel done prior to going for my pre-surgery blood panel. I did this because I wanted to see if I had any isues before going to the expense of my trip for surgery, my surgery is not local, it will be in Mexico. My blood panel is good and I do not have any vitamin deficientcies. My next step is to start my liquid diet prior to surgery. I read on the forum with most Doctors, they like for you to have a blood panel about 6 months after surgery to make sure you are not deficient in any Vitamins or minerals. I know we will be taking things like Protein,Vitamin D, Iron and b-12 post surgery but everyone is different, how do you know what you are getting enough of and what you are not. Have you found a one a day muti vitamin is enough or did you have to take a bunch of individual vitamins? What dosages of these vitamins did your doctor start you on? How was your blood work after 6 months or after you had it checked again? I hear if you are deficeint in vitamins or minerals and you wait 6 months to find out by a blood panel, it could be too late to correct it with just taking vitamins at that point. How do you know what dosage to take of what vitamins and minerals directly after surgery and for the next 6 months? Thank you.
  9. I am glad your surgery went well, I am schduled with Dr. Almanza on May 25th. Was it what you expected in regards to the staff, facility and recovery house? i will go nuts if I cannot get my liquids in, I am a water freak.
  10. As a child, I swallowed gum, i hope they do not find a bunch of pieces stuck to my stomach, if they do, I hope it is stuck to the 80% they are going to remove.
  11. Noel, i would like to hear your whole experience, My surgery with Dr. Almanza is 5-25. Please detail everything, I would like to know how you were treated and the facility. Who was your coordinator? How is the recovery house? Thanks.
  12. Who was your surgeon, I would hope they would have more interest in your condition.
  13. Great post, my surgery is the 25th, trying to get prepared as possible. You mentioned your throat and mouth was sore from the tubing, was the tubing done while you were under or did they put it in or take it out while you were awake? This is my first surgery of any kind, getting a little anxious.
  14. What day of your pre-op liquid diet did you start these? Are you on a clear liquid diet and are thise considered "clear" ? Every doctor has different instructions, some on on a liquid diet, some are on a clear liquid diet. Are you getting 60-80- gr of protein a day? Are you staying full? Thank you.
  15. What type of B-12 are you taking post - op and what is the dosage. I hear everyone is different. Thank you.
  16. I have a question for the pre-op people who have just started their pre-op diet. My pre-op liquid diet instructions( have not started yet) say i can have, broth, sugar free jello, sugar free juice, clear liquids, protein powder mixed in clear liquids and here is the confusing one ( already have a call in to get this answered), PREPARED LIQUID PROTEIN SHAKES WITH AT LEAST 20 GRAMS OF PROTEIN PER SERVING. My question about that one is, every prepared protein shake is flavored and not clear, ( EAS, BOOST,SLIMFAST), What prepared protein shakes were you allowed to have pre-op? I am good with the powder and adding to drinks, I need to know about the PREPARED PROTEIN SHAKES. Any input would be appreciated.
  17. Good for you, it is going to be worth it. Mine is booked for 5-25 with Dr. Almanza, it is amazing all the things I need to do to get ready. This is going to be a great journey.
  18. As far as liquids before and after your surgery, do you have an issues drinking coffee? I usually drink about 3 cups of caffeinated coffee a day with a sweetner such as sweet and low, no sugar. What has your doctors told you about coffee or tea, any issues with the caffeine? Thanks.
  19. My mind is wondering again. After surgery and you were home, did you monitor your temperature to see if you were running a fever? I am curious as to how many ran a fever post surgery and for how long? How high was your temperature? Thanks.
  20. Hello dntsetl, I am scheduled for surgery with Dr. Almanza the end of May, I will keep you posted. Who is your contact/coordinator at Dr. Almaza's clinic? I have found the communication to be great. You need to get your husband on the forum and let him read, ask questions and voice his concerns. I went through the same thing but now my wife is on board. I feel very comfortable with my decision and I am sure you will grow to be comfortable with yours.
  21. Hello Sandsandles, I am going to Dr. Almanza at the end of May, I will keep you posted. Who is your coordinator, mine is Louise Johnson, she has been great. She is probably ready for my surgery to be over because of all of my questions, we communicate every day but she always takes time to answer all of my questions. You need to get your spouse on the forum, show him the time and research you have put in, he will come around to your way of thinking about this.
  22. Wow, that is a relief, i would probably start to smell after 2 weeks.
  23. Hello caleybooth, I see you and your husband used Dr. Almanza for your surgeries. I am going to him the end of May. What positives and/or negatives do you have to say about your total experience from facility, staff and surgery? At the recovery house, who was your host and can you tell me about that experience. Thanks.
  24. Thanks Shybaby, I am having my surgery with Dr. Almanza the end of May. There are a lot of great Doctors that do a great job. I feel comfortable with my decision. I do not care about fancy hospitals, I do care about having a clean and safe place for surgery and having a compentent Doctor perform my surgery. My personal opinion, if I were going to pay what Dr. Aceves charges in Mexico, I would have my surgery done in the states, I do not see a savings there and being self-pay, cost is part of the equation. The cost is not the only reason I have choosen Dr. Almanza, the communication and willing to take the time to answer many, many questions I have asked them, is priceless. In doing my research, I have tried to communicate with other doctor's and their staff, they do not seem near as interested in my questions and they actually acted like I was bothering them. My coordinator at Dr. Almanza's office is Louise Johnson, she has been great and has spent a lot of her time making sure ALL of my questions were answered to make sure I have all the information I need to make an informed decision. So like I said, there were many reasons I have choosen to use Dr. Almanza. Thanks.
  25. That is great that you found this and was treated. Was anything caused by the surgery ( blood clots) or was the pancreatitus just something that happened? Who was your surgeon and where did you have your surgery? Do you feel a lot more healthy now after the surgery?
