  1. I always thought it was discouraged because its a diuretic....
  2. I have only been in maintenance for a month. Trying to figure out what that looks/feels like, and have the "fear" just a little as well... but try not to let it dominate my experience. The other day my husband asked me why I am still hanging around on "that website" and not just doing what I have to do and move on. This was in response to me bitching about how much time and head space I need to dedicate to losing and maintaining... and he just didn't get it. I would love to just live by the seat of my pants, but that train takes me to fat town every time! So there you go. Luckily (yes I said luckily) it has taken me 3 years to get to this weight, and I did take the time to learn somethings that works... Maintenance is 98 percent the same as losing so far....except I am at goal, which is awesome!!!
  3. Your in the right place! Having this support through the holidays really helped me a lot this year. Last year I gained because I stopped really looking at what I was doing and just "winged it". I still had fun and treats this year, but paid attention, and came out the other end in my goal range. We are here for you! Live and learn. Your plan looks sensible.
  4. Last year I gained so much weight, this year I stayed accountable (scale and MFP) and it was much better. Even with lots of treats... I kept it in the ballpark most of the time because this time I was watching the intake more closely. Welcome back girls! I know you can do it! I am within my 3 pound bounce range goal... hope to take that goal down another 5 slowly .
  5. Coops... YOU ARE GOING TO GET TO GOAL THIS YEAR!!!!
  6. Naughty Buplee! (I'm wagging my finger at you )
  7. The fast days are supposed to be separated by at least a day, but you can shuffle them around if it helps you stay on track... I do Monday and Thursday, but if Im having a party on a thursday, I might do it on Wednesday instead... no prob. I think the thinking on back to back is its just a little harder to fast for two days in a row, Pudding. 3/4 cup skim milk 1 1/2 T corn starch Torrani of your choice (I like chocolate for extra chocolate flavor, or salted caramel is nice too... SF of course...) 1T cocoa powder (or not) a drop of vanilla a shake of salt (or not... it seems to round out the skim milk flavor) I just do this on the fly, I do measure the milk, the the rest I am guessing here... The recipe doubles ok. I always make one for the hubby too. Mix corn starch with aprox 1/2 milk -set aside Mix 1/2 milk in a sauce pan with torrani (about 1/8 cup or more to taste) , vanilla, salt and cocoa bring to just below low simmer stir corn starch mixture right before adding to hot milk mixture drip it into the pot, still on the heat, and use whisk to stir until thickened... if it starts to boil, remove pan from heat, keep stirring for a few more strokes... if its not thick enough you need a little more CS. I like to eat it warm, sometimes I will add banana, or chocolate chips, or walnut pieces or marshmallows (not vegetarian ) or cool whip free.... what ever I can afford calorie wise. Change up the flavor as you like. Makes 3/4 cup serving, If you can't eat that much, split in half and share or save for tomorrow!
  8. No need to worry, just keep on doing what the doctored ordered. Your body CAN NOT stay the same weight if you are overweight and eating less than a thousand cals a day. I know for the first 12 weeks or so I was eating a lot less than that and I had stalls that lasted for 3 weeks and more. I am a slow loser, but it did come off in the end. Later on I had to make some changes, but really if you follow plan, you will lose most of it.... stalls and all. Don't forget to enjoy your life, and feel proud for what you lose... however much it is. This is not a race to some finish line... there is no finish line, this is for life!
  9. There you go, thats what I'm talking about! Hey! My ticker disappeared!
  10. Sounds good! After you get a couple of those under your belt, you will look forward to them!
  11. Love New Orleans. The charm is lovely. So is the family. Glad your having a nice birthday!
  12. You can spread out your calories any way you want... some only eat dinner, others three small meals... just watch the calories.... I think taking a nice long break (the 18 hours is good) someplace in the night+day is a good rest for the body. Not eating too late the day before, and eating later on fast day works for me. A half an apple will not kill your plan, just add it to the calories and get as close as you can to 500. I'm fasting today too... a little creamer in my decaf in the AM, 0% Fage for lunch (sometimes I have a protein drink instead) , then stir fry veggies for dinner and home made SF pudding for desert. 530 cals. This is a pretty common routine for me.
  13. I hope you like it Queenie! It has been a lifesaver for me and my waistline.
  14. Had a fantastic day yesterday, went hiking and bird watching at one of my fav wetlands site. I went with a bunch of foodie friends, so the picnic was splendid! Too much salt, carbs and fat for a really clean meal, but so delish. Thank you sleevie for keeping the intake down! We went out to a local Indian restaurant that got good reviews on Yelp. OMG, it was just the best. A little hole in the wall, mostly take out business... some of the best Indian I have ever eaten, and all the foodies agreed. It is an area that was "colonized" by the Sikh community over a hundred years ago for the great farmland. They are an awesome presence there. So lucky to have them! Anyway, about 95 percent of their customers were Sikh community coming for takeout... a steady flow the time we were there. I will go back. Anyway, fasting today, will mix a couple of spoon fulls of the leftovers from Indian food to flavor my veggie stir fry for tonight. What a treat! Have a wonderful fast day all you fasters, if no a fast day, then just a wonderful day! M2G... look at your handsome hubby and cute girls! You all look fantastic, and sounds like a really fun wedding party!
  15. Hi Lisa, welcome back!
  16. I know sometimes its hard to say no, but even with fitting in a couple of fast days, it makes a difference. We all say "I can eat that tomorrow!" with the 5:2, it helps keep me on track. Fasted Monday, and again on Thursday (tomorrow) and eating happy hours style all two days in between (super grazing) but hope to at last get away from the party and holiday environment after that... for a while anyway! Looking forward to that. Going out for a hike today. Cngrats to you, and it sounds like it just might work for you which is awesome!
  17. Thanks all, I talked to him when he got out of surgery and he sounded pretty good, but he has had some many surgeries in the last 5 years, and 86 years old! Hes keeping them busy in the old OR.
  18. Best of luck to you! You made it happen!
  19. Ladies, send good vibes, my dad is just getting out of surgery... Just found out....
  20. Me too. Back down into my middle bounce.
  21. What a nice post Linda. And Nancy, I know its hard to give up on your favorite dishes. I think Linda has some good ideas! I am on a budget too, and try to get the best food for the least money! Can you substitute brown rice for the white? And I like a little corn too, but it is high glycemic index, which means it can spike your blood sugar and make you hungry! Rather than eat it by itself, I mix a small amount into my mixed veggies, or in my Soup to get the sweet flavor without having too much. Beans are yummy, and can be so healthy if you don't add too much fat. Just a touch. I think you will be ok, but just have to get out your creative flair and make over those family favorites for your NEW Healthy life. Its so great that you went to your meeting, it looks like every one else chickened out but you! One on one with the nut is great. Maybe you can make over some of your recipes and take them in to share with her and get other ideas. Best of luck in the new year!

  23. Bear, I follow a version of the 5:2, that is a longevity protocol that involves two days of semi fasting every week. It has helped me to lose some regain and finally get to goal and maintain. Not too hard to follow. In fact I enjoy how it makes me feel. I have thought how the enforced calorie reduction involved in WLS seems like it would cause life extension to me too...
  24. Here it is. Obesity and Mortality Risk New Findings From Body Mass Index Trajectories I signed up for this site, its free and quite interesting. You can get notices on any topic you want. http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/815335_1 Here is a tantalizing two paragraphs from a LONG DRY article. IntroductionThe rising prevalence of obesity has emerged as a potential threat to overall life expectancy in the future. The extent of this threat, however, is still uncertain, and estimates of the percentage of total deaths due to obesity vary widely, from 5%[1] to 13%.[2–4] Although these estimates are all based on measuring the mortality consequences of body mass index (BMI) assessed at baseline (i.e., at 1 point in time), other studies have found that a dynamic measure of weight status (weight or BMI change) is more predictive of mortality than is a static measure of weight status (i.e., baseline BMI), especially among older adults.[5, 6] We might expect obesity to increase the risk of death more profoundly when it persists over the life course. Therefore, in order to better assess the rising threat of obesity, it is essential to examine the mortality consequences of BMI trajectories. Prior studies based on dynamic measures have yielded mixed findings about the mortality consequences of weight change.[5–21] Several factors contribute to the mixed findings. First, the association of weight change with mortality depends on baseline BMI status. Weight gain leads to excess death among overweight/obese individuals but lowers the mortality risk among underweight or normal weight people.[8] Second, the association differs by the magnitude of weight change. Modest weight gains are associated with a decreased mortality risk, but excessive weight gains predict an increased mortality risk.[7, 13] When both initial weight and the magnitude of change are taken into account, small weight gains (1.0–2.9 BMI units) are not associated with excess mortality risk among 50–70-year-old Americans, regardless of their initial BMI levels, whereas large weight gains (3.0–5.0 units) increase the risk of death only when the initial BMI is greater than 35. Moreover, both small weight losses (1.0–2.9 units) and large weight losses (3.0–5.0 units) are associated with an increase in the risk of death among people who are normal, overweight, or mildly obese at baseline.[22] What!??? 8o
