  1. Ny name is Kim and I'm a Chocolate/peanutbutter junkie. Thank God for SF chocolate pudding and PB.
  2. I'm pretty sure day one... Some Drs don't want you to ingest anything red for a short while.
  3. Congratulations! That is just so cool!:001_smile:
  4. I just try and use low glycemic index carbs like whole grains, low fat dairy and high fiber veggies...and not a bunch of refined sugar and white bread. This worked pretty good on South Beach in the past. Really kept the craving and hunger down. I think the carbs in Low fat dairy should be fine...and beans...check out the fiber, that is just carbs going out the other end!
  5. Interesting! I had been wearing sunscreen for years, and my dermatologist said get the VetD checked.... It was at 14 (should be at least 30)....I wonder how my next test will be...taking just the lower daily....I was a little depressed...taking the VitD did the trick!
  6. My understanding is: Take your once a week VitD, prob for 6 weeks, this is standard practice to bring the numbers up (30 minimum) then you can take around 1000 a day. Vitamin B12 you dissolve under your tongue/sublingual...it is best absorbed that way. Your other VitB12 is combined in a multi pill? Swallowing it is not the best way to get your B12 after surgery. I don't know about the Iron, I just remember taking it and it made me nauseous years ago when I took too much... This is the experience I have had, but listen to your Dr.
  7. Miss Vanish, I love bellydancing! I have been taking classes twice a week for over 2 years. I am really going to miss it while I heal. I think all the stomach isolations might be hard on the stitches, so I hope Its not tooo long. Rock on sister Bellydance! I hope to get the surgery in January. Let me know how it goes in class when you start.
  8. We have many Indian markets around us... they all sell chai spices in a little box, just steep teabags, some spice mix to taste, splenda or stevia and milk in a pot with some boiling water.... delish!
  9. It is going to be really hard for me to keep my carbs so low...Im a vegetarian, and everything I eat has carbs in them. I can keep my calories down though... I expect a stall....
  10. That sound great!
  11. That make sense. Thanks all. Dont you think this is a very interesting sub culture? And kind of hidden...Now that I am in "the process" people are coming out to me about their surgery. So many... mostly women in the hospital setting have had it done. Nurses and technicians mostly... I see people so differently...
  12. hahahaha! I took a 160 question test that included some questions a bit like that. I go in for a Psych meeting in a few days. I wonder if I will have that mental disorder too? I am a pragmatic Buddhist. One of the questions was "Have you been on the cover of a magazine in the last couple of months" and I answered yes... was interviewed about my painting....I thought this was pretty funny to ask! Perhaps I should bring in a copy of the Mag to prove Im not delusional....:biggrin0:
  13. Here is some interesting info on Protein drinks...I see Collagen added to many of the high gm Protein Drinks and shots out there...:001_tt2: Performance Drinks: The Truth Hydrolyzed Gelatin Protein vs. High Quality Whey Protein Unfortunately, not every manufacturer uses high quality protein. Some are perpetrating the 'big ripoff' to unknowing customers who are purchasing supposed protein / amino drinks that actually contain hydrolyzed gelatin protein (other names include hydrolyzed collagen protein, animal connective tissue protein, other animal Proteins, etc.) Hydrolyzed gelatin is made mostly from frozen and fresh pork skins as well as cattle bones and hides. These inedible connective tissues and bones are then run through a series of caustic baths, intermittently with hot and cold soakings to separate out the collagen. This is what you are putting into your body when you drink a Protein Drink which has hydrolyzed gelatin on the label. Hydrolyzed is the basis for gelatin dessert, and although it might be a fun food, it was not designed to build muscle mass and it won't. This protein has a PER of almost 0. It contains little or no tryptophane, one of the essential Amino Acids necessary for the formation and utilization of all the other Amino Acids. It is a lot cheaper for a manufacturer to purchase hydrolyzed gelatin than the special whey American Body Building uses, which is a natural milk protein naturally extracted during the processing of cheese, after which the lactose, a milk sugar, is removed. When using hydrolyzed gelatin, the nutritional information panel on the label is supposed to make the statement "Not a significant source of Protein" next to the word protein. But they usually and conveniently forger to include it. Have you been using a product like this and not gained the mass you thought you should on a high protein supplement? Well, you're not getting any protein for it. Whenever you see hydrolyzed gelatin anywhere on the label, even if the label says the product contains whey, check your rear view mirror. Gelatin can cost 75% less than soluble whey, and whey is much more difficult to process. Given these facts, how much quality protein do you believe they are actually giving you in their products when gelatin is listed on the label. THINK ABOUT IT! For these and other reasons of increased processing costs, some manufacturers opt to go the easy way, and put low quality, low biological utilization proteins in their products.
  14. If you don't already have a fitday.com account, start one. Its very helpful for keeping track of nutrition, carbs and Protein. I have to find out more, but my Nut says NO shots, they contain low quality protein that the body has trouble absorbing. whey, soy and egg based drinks only. No collagen or casein. I see others enjoy the shots, but just FYI anyway. Here is the link... looks ok. Prob not vegetarian if that maters to you. Healthy Shot? - High Protein beverages and Drinks This site shows the quality of different kinds of protein... http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=nutrient&dbid=92#foodsources
  15. I would go into your Dr. and ask him/her. I was at my Dr's for something else and asked if she could give me a referral to a Bariatric Center in the same medical system. Perhaps the Bariatric Dr. or the patient liaison in his staff can tell you if your insurance has approved the surgery for anyone else. I would think if the Bariatric surgeon thinks you have a case he might put in an appeal? I'm just guessing here... anyone out there from Louisiana?
  16. Same here Dave! Heres to being part of the new statistics!
  17. ..just checking around for stats for Mexico... On average, Dr. Aceves patients who undergo Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy can expecto to lose 96% of their excess body weight in a period of 12 months Over a 2 years period on average patients lose 100 % of their excess body weight. The Gastric Sleeve Surgery
  18. Dave, the link is: http://www.asmbs.org/Newsite07/resources/Updated_Position_Statement_on_Sleeve_Gastrectomy.pdf The AMERICAN Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Of course Mexico is part of the Americas, but I doubt that this study includes statistics found in Mexico.
  19. Your a great inspiration Tiff
  20. OK. So newest studies say that single stage VSG patients on average lose 60.7 percent of their excess weight. It seems like I see mostly people on here that are still early in the process of losing, or have lost ALL of their excess weight. So do you think that people who use forums lose more than the average because of accountability or some other factor, or people who lose more than average are more likely to post? Where are all the people who make up the longterm (3-5 years) unsatisfactory weight loss percentage? I have not had surgery yet, but am almost done with my tests... I of course would like to lose close to 100% of my excess weight....60 would be MUCH better than none of course...
  21. Soooo glad to hear this! I love me some chili pepper.
  22. I have not had surgery yet. Still jumping through hoops. My Cardiologist just gave me a clearance letter for WL surgery. My VitD was way low when I tested 3 months ago because I wear sunscreen all the time... 11. Women should have closer to 40. I was feeling depressed, and eating lots of sweets too. I took the 50,000 once a week for 6 weeks and now am taking smaller doses daily. I do feel better and don't crave sweets as much. My Dr. said that there is not a lot known about VitD at this time, but lots of research is being done and it looks like it will turn out to be a very important vit.
