Im trying a few different things, the latest ..... weights and eating MORE. I tried eating less with no success. Keep up the good work, getting back to exercise will help Im sure! -
I still come back after over two years. It can really help me get back on track. I'm not as "frantic" as I was the first 6-7 months, but thats a good thing!

Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery
feedyoureye replied to sleeve 4 me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think just log what you log. If I cant be bothered with the ketchup, I round up something else to add a few cals. I skip logging cabbage, a slice of tomato and such....that being said, I use a lot of the same stuff regularly, and its on the list, so I just adjust the amount and check it in. Its a little obsession to do it perfect, and I have to say Im not perfect, but I am regular and that seems to help a lot. I just ordered a fitbit which will add an other tool to the toolkit as well... logging some kinds of activities. It works with myfitnesspal. -
Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery
feedyoureye replied to sleeve 4 me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am just in the early weeks of this plan, but would be glad to share. I was scared to go up in calories... so did it in two steps, went from about 1200 to 1500 to 1800. I do not feel as compulsive about food. I am not as hungry. Some days I have to make myself eat a Protein Bar or something to make sure I get my calories in. At 1200 this was not the case! My weight is mostly staying the same so far. (up a pound, down a little more than a pound so far) When I am hungry I usually still have calories to use up and can eat. I figure my calories day by day, depending on how much my output is... I go to the gym two days a week, and can eat around 2000 a day on these days, I walk two days a week and can eat around 1700 then, the days is sit on my butt I eat around 1600. It averages out to around 1800. I am trying to keep and gain muscle... lose inches, then pounds if I can. On this plan they say one might gain a few pounds before losing them. (gaining while on the "reset" part where you eat your full TDEE, which for me is around 2100 a day. I have not done a reset yet)I just know that I feel like eating minus 1200 a day is not all that healthy or sustainable for me. -
Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery

I have been finding out the details on this site/group on myfitnesspal.com at: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/3817-eat-more-to-weigh-less I average 1800 a day....which is what I should eat to maintain goal.I still need to lose around 18 pounds to get there. One eats about 10-20% below the TDEE to lose around one pound a week. I am losing slower than that. If I were to really follow their directions, I should be eating at TDEE -over 2100 cals a day.... for 5-6 weeks then slowly drop to 1800 to start losing. The idea is to eat at your expenditure, get your body used to living on full calories for a while, then when you drop a little, it will let the weight go slowly....and avoiding teaching the body to live on very little (like 800-1200 a day)With this plan patients is key, slow slow slow....but who cares if you can actually get to goal (which I have never done yet eating much less) Check out the site, it bears reading. -
Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Im still eating more as a plan. I log everything, and am back to exercise, adding in some weight lifting twice a week. I have gone from 1200 to 1800 a day with no weight gain. I fact I have lost about a pound. I just don't see how eating 1200 a day and staying the same weight can be the best way to go. If I had been losing some pounds on that, I may have never changed my plan, but I feel so much better eating more... so far so good. I hear from many folks on the net that eating more is a good way to lose very slowly... and slowly it is for me! I will keep this up and report back on my long term findings using the TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) plan.... I also bought a fitbit to figure our how many steps I take and my real energy output for daily life. -

Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery
feedyoureye replied to sleeve 4 me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am having some problems figuring out how to lose a little(20) and stay there. I seem to be able to stay where I am right now.... I have gained 18 and am staying there. I log everything and exercise. I am experimenting at eating more for an extended time without gaining more. I was eating 1200 a day, exercising and NOT losing. I figured my body may be screwed up from not eating much for so long. I have added in about 300-800 a day more, depending on how much I exercise or not. I am staying the same at this.... not gaining from when I was eating 1200 a day. I am sort of following the TDEE plan, eating between my BMR(1600) and my total energy expenditure(2100) or around 1800 a day (which should be my energy expenditure at my goal weight if I continue the same exercise routine. I just think its crazy to weight over 190, exercise and only eat 1200 a day and still gain weight or stay the same! Im seeing if I can normalize my intake. This seems to work for some people who have trained their bodies to live on very little. I still have restriction, and the protein first rule does work for me too. I am eating pretty clean, with planned snacks and still vegetarian. I guess Im in maintenance right now, but hope to s-l-o-w-l-y lose back to where I was at the end of my "honeymoon" a year ago by eating more for a while, then cutting back a little bit to lose slowly. We will see! I am so happy I got the sleeve, but I am not happy having to go up one or two sizes after I gave away most of my larger sizes! PANTS TOO TIGHT! -
I have been here for over two years and I never ran into nasty posters most of that time. Really its been in the last year or less... it only takes a few to change the mood. This site has been so good for me, a few great people really helped me along the way with advice and support. Be who you want to meet on the site, and let the rest go. Understand that some who have been here a long time hear the same questions over and over. Please do a search before you ask. Then you can post specifics on those threads already in play. Im sure I asked the "stall" question at least once, and answered it multiple times. I know it is hell! Lots of the people who are years ahead of you have left the site. Some of them drop back in now and then to catch up, get support, and perhaps lend some insight to being further out from surgery. I really appreciate those that lend their expertise and advice from further out. The easiest part of this process is losing the first year or less... the honeymoon. Losing the last pounds, figuring out how to maintain is an even longer process for some of us. At two years, I have not gotten to my goal, but still happy to fight for it, and better off by far for the surgery. How about a one year stall? IT happens to many. Anyway, just take this time to learn about yourself and take heart with the many people here going through the same thing, some are grouchy or mean, but most are friendly and helpful. We are in for the long haul, and remember what you think is true at 3 months or 8 months may not be true at 12 or 24 months. One day at a time.

New lifestyle- Vegan!
feedyoureye replied to vonego82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have eaten lacto/ovo vegetarian through out my whole sleeve experience. I am moving a little bit towards Vegan meal by meal.My advice is get enough protein while you are losing. Eating dairy and eggs help a LOT in getting to this goal. I became milk intolerant the first three months after my surgery so went without at that time. You can use whey if you are milk intolerant. If you do not get enough protein while losing, the loss will come from muscle hair and organs... don't want that! I eat/ate soy, gluten, beans, cheese/yog/cottage cheese...whey, nuts and seeds...I missed veggies,(no room) but started making veg soup and getting them in that way. Could not eat raw for quite a few months. I fully support vegetarian and vegan lifestyle, but you need to eat protein for the first year or so. -

I have been looking at this.... Eating to your TDEE (total Daily energy expenditure)This means for most of us eating more. Maybe LOTS more. Here are some vids that talk about parts of it....Myfitnesspal has lots of info on the forums and a link to a calculator to figure out how much you should be eating. Mine said I should be eating 1886 cals a day to lose. (at the exercise level I am at) http://www.youtube.com/user/EatMore2WeighLess?feature=mhee Here is my worksheet, but you can FILE> NEW(on the top of the spreadsheet page) and fill in your own to find out what they say for you. I hear you need to have a google account to use this spreadsheet... https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtVTTxJc1RRhdHVqQkdkNjhOLVY4QzBYYzNOQllEQUE#gid=14 -
Ulcers where they separate the stomach
feedyoureye replied to christy38's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
About the cancer fear, with the sleeve your dr can scope you... not so easy with the RNY. With RNY, a big piece of the stomach is left in the abdomen with no way in to take a look with a scope. There is an increased chance of GERD with the sleeve. Taking antacids all the time make it more difficult for the body to use calcium as well. This being said, what you eat has something to do with it, and the return of GERD to sleeve patients is correlated with weight gain... (perhaps food choices are at least part of the fault in this as well?) I did not have constant acid before surgery, but sometimes did.... used antacids for 6months after surgery, went off of them with no problem. If I eat junk, I may get a little acid... with chocolate mostly! I LOVE the sleeve. -
I used fitday for years, just switched to MFP and have to say it is much easier to find food, add food and exercise, and has a great phone app as well. I would get over the learning curve and I think you will be very happy with it. I started using it on jan 1st... it suggests 1200 a day, (no one should be lower than that it says, to get all the nutrition you need) Of course we are under a Drs care the first year... but after that 1200 seems a small enough amount. My prob is after 11 days on this plan, I have gained 2.4 pounds. I will keep it up and see how it goes... I am 192.4, and cant see how eating that little could put weight on! After a couple of years mostly eating much less than that, my body may need an adjustment to eating more. Don't know. I log in with facebook, so need to look into what my MFP name actually is! Best of luck all!
