How was your 5:2 day today?
feedyoureye replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Haha Sheryl! Keeping the dogs in a Kennel outside.... Lil'Sukie has a line drawn that she cant sleep on the dining room table or french kiss (very often!) Thats about it. We actually found her stretched out on the kitchen table when she was younger when we got home from someplace...and pissed on Craigs head when she was mad at him. We lived in a convirted loft, the upstairs were rows of 2 x 4s... you could see some light through the cracks downstairs... you gussed it, she went up stairs, aimed and fired. Craig was doing the dishes when from "somewhere" his head was getting dripped on. I laughed my head off! He was in a huff over something and she really did not like it. Little dogs were bread to be companions. (and ratters!) Here she is "Praying" for pets. -

How was your 5:2 day today?

Happy birthday Sheryl! Hope it had been a good day for you. The newbies? I like the idea of a link you can post.... better a little than none...which will happen if you are totally burned out. I know i don't post as often as I used to for the newbies... I do have a couple of posts that seem to still get some use. I still like the Vets forum, but mostly , I like our little thread. Sarah... I think that is the thing that has been going around here for months too... a lingering respiratory thing... really take care or it will come right back! So happy you have surgery to look forward too, you are so darling, you will be bathing suit ready by the end of the summer! Coops, It looks to me like that low number is teasing you, but you know all the pounds before this one were teasing you too, and they are (with continued work) a thing of the past now! A new low number is as sign of good things to come! Denise, wow, poor Bill. Glad you are having a nice time there and it is warm for you. Sacramento is going to hit 100 this weekend.... Georgia, love the pic with the black hat! Cute darlin'! I think the 148-50 sounds like a great weight. and congrats on the 4 years. That is so awesome. I really attribute part ofmy success to you all... one piece in the puzzle of "getting it off, and keeping it off". I have been fighting the top of my bounce range for a while... ate donuts at work today. (bad BAD habit!). Im afraid that losing those 5 pounds for my doc is just a dream at this stage of things. I still feel like a success though... being at the top of my bounce range at 3 1/2 years is amazing really. After all those years of dieting constantly and never getting anywhere with it. I finally ordered and got my bariatric Calcium chewables... they are not too bad. GIANT, but sort of desert like. Just don't breath in while you chew them or you get a dust storm of cherry dust down the hatch.... I have been going in to the gym to practice dancing before regular class twice a week... mostly dancing with a veil. I am having so much fun. Sometimes one the of girls or the teacher joins me. Today a girl practicing hoops for a performance at burning man was sharing the studio with us... it was so fun! I actually think I am getting better. (funny how practice can do that!) on June 15th I will have been taking the dance class for 6 years. I started out 90 pounds ago. I would have thought I would be better by now, but really, it has been so much fun, and for an old broad, I think really, I am doing pretty good all in all. -
<p>3 1/2 years out.... at one point I gained 22 pounds.... had not reached goal yet but close. I then got it off, and have been in maintinance for about 7 months. (It took me around 3 years to get to goal) I have a 3 pound bounce range, do pop over the top now and then, get back on track by 5:2 style fasting a day or two a week I work out 4-5 days a week... walking, dancing, kayak and/or gardening.</p> <p> </p> <p>I can eat LOTS more...when i want more I eat more fruits and veggies... and dont forget the Protein. My will power comes and goes, I weigh every day, and post everything I eat 95% of the time every day... I take my Vitamins and did this as a vegetarian. When I pop out of the "zone" its because of too much junk... full sugar cake, Cookies, pizza.... I can eat healthier versions of these in moderation and maintain.</p> <p> </p>

Vets struggling with 5:2.. there may be an alternative !
feedyoureye replied to FishingNurse's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Keep in mind that Vets recommend this to those over 12 months who have a loooong stall, regain or just cant get to goal try this... others please just REALLY follow your Docs method until then. That being said, I do think its safe and effective, but for it to work you have to follow it.... long term.... its not even a weight loss plan, its a longevity plan where you can lose weight as a side effect. -

I just tried it and it worked for me... here are the first few links from that page.... Just going to get this rolling. Here is an "official" 5:2 fourm. Not all links are equal, just some reading if your interested... This is where I linked to the 5:2 FAQs page: FAQ: http://www.52fastdie...c.php?f=1&t=246 Home Page: http://www.52fastdie...7ab7bbb545beb71 Intermittent Fasting May Help Those With Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease, Study Suggests http://www.scienceda...30426115456.htm Effect of intermittent fasting on lipid profile and hematological parameters in healthy volunteers in Jordan http://universalrese...rjeh et al.pdf The Power of Intermittent Fasting http://healthdivas.b...nt-fasting.html some recipes: http://www.lavendera...e-52-diet.html I found a copy of the original 5:2 docu that started this particular movement: http://leangainsguid...-1-and-fasting/ it is 57 minutes long, take time to watch it, its very interesting. -
Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery
feedyoureye replied to sleeve 4 me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I still bounce out of my bounce range now and then. Making sure I eat cleaner, write everything down and do a semi fast day now and then really helps me to get back in the range. If more hungry, I eat more veggies, and big salad or bowl of veggie soup to fill up the gap. -

Well. Some people just can't live without drama! How sweet is that. That is something I would get a little worried about, the kid getting attached then left. It can be hard enough for an adult that "gets left" or the like. -

Holy cow! I finally got to the end of the line of posts... Want to comment on them all, but have been away so long im sure its old news.... I have been so busy, time just flys some times... Last weekend went kayaking, hubby finally got his own so we can plan more trips for the summer. Gardening and weight gain! Just 2 pounds over my bounce, but can I see it on the muffin top! I have been fasting pretty well, one or two times a week, but the other days are full of c-r-a-p! I am inspired by you all, hitting the fasts or not, keep up the good work to those doing it, and lets get out of that slump to those who are in it with me. Good for you getting back on track! Feels pretty good to be there I bet. I have been logging too, yesterday was 1900 So I hear you... I can really put it away some days! I did get in some exercise, but still... the scales don't seem to care about that.... . I have a docs appt in the middle of June where whe expects me to have lost 5 pounds.... uh, not really going to happen... and a dance performance in July... holy cow! Good luck on that one. I am just going to do it and try and get over my fear of looking like a goof...my dance girls want me to be in thier troop, and if I want to go there, I just have to start somewhere. Go Girl Go! you are my inspiration Coops! Nice to see you here... job stuff sucks sometimes... We are going through Unionizing... I am going to a negotiating workshop on Sat... I figure it might help me in other parts of my life as well... you are a star girl, time to hit the thrift stores for groovie cloths and the new free agent that you are! Love my fitbit too...but not anywhere close to 10,000 most days... Sheryl, I have always felt bad about my arms... no mater thin or thick... getting the surgery might really be good for me, but the scars and the pain.... not sure Im ready for that... and about your tests, I hope it all works osut right... do try and balance your diet with lots of veggies... gotta stay healthy for that fun new wildman! Can I tell you how that pic just lit up my face?! You guys are so obviously young and in love! YOu are just glowing. And model beautiful? Absolutely girl. So sorry for the addiction friend... sad to see someone letting thier life slip away. You have reached out, and im sure she knows it... when she hits bottom... you will be there for her. Georgia, Denise, Wanda, and all, love coming here and hearing from you all girls! -
When does regain or leveling off tend to happen?
feedyoureye replied to vogue's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I gained 22 pounds in my second year, I was mortified to have to go to the thrift store to buy jeans two sizes up. . I did manage to get it off over the next year and am now back into my smallest sizes. Vigilance is key. If you are injured and can't work out, you get sick or depressed, or just lose track for a while, you certainly can gain weight. Losing that 20-120 pounds "forever" is dependent on causes and conditions. Its not a guarantee. -
Dalwalsh, what is this linked from? Looks like an advertisement....

Awww Florinda! I love that story! Thanks for sharing!!! -
I am most interested in the calcium topic too. Mostly because it doesn't seem to show up on tests AND because i think it is the hardest supplement to "stomach" All my blood work since surgery is "perfect" but calcium is my nemisis. I hate the pills, I feel the chewables are crazy expensive and I guess I have a little worry about it. I was always vit D low prior to losing weight - now it is normal even though I take less Vit D then I used to! My Iron is always really good so I personally don't need to take that supplement. I also switched from high quality multi Vitamins to chewable gummies once I got to maintenance since I eat pretty healthy and most vitamins make me feel kinda ill. The gummies are almost like candy... About 2 months ago, when my appetite problems started, I stopped taking all vitamins except for the B complex sublingual drop that I do a few times a week. Everything else just seemed like more than I could deal with. Now, I am taking vitamins again but barely choking down 500 a day dosage of calcium citrate. I know i should have about twice (taken separately) that but they kill my appetite for hours. I appreciate you starting this thread... I am ready to be educated! even though my iron has always been good without supplementation, and I am in menopause... at my last visit to my doc and nut they wanted me to start a multi with iron because of suspicions of "problems down the road"...they also said NO GUMMIES, but Flintstone with iron would be fine. (I miss my gummies!) The calcium chews are expensive, I find if I use the Bariatric Advantage chewables in the giant bottle, it really helps with the daily cost. As a variation I use the generic chocolate soft chews from Target. VERY CANDY-ish. Vitamin K (as found in many greens) will mess with blood thinners and clotting, so watch that.

My b12 and D were low, they are now ok with suplimentation. B12 is an even bigger problem if you are a vegetarian. Calcium levels are not always represented well by the test... it is looking like some long term problems(bone loss) can show up with good blood levels. There is more and more research that shows supplementation may not work that well... whole food is your best bet when ever possible. (I try and do both...)

Gamegirl is at 9 months, is 5 pounds from goal. and says what she really wants is support more than the 5:2 even though she is interested. Here is her email to me.... Thanks Kim! I feel good. Getting there slowly although I think in 5 more lbs I will decide I need to be even lower I understand about the private chit chat. I'm sort of in limbo at 9 months. Too "young" for the vets group, too old for the outside groups so I'm having trouble finding a little support from time to time. If there is indeed another 5:2 group I'd love to join, not so much for the 5:2 really, more so for the support. Thanks so much for replying. Btw I love seeing on MFP the calories you burn from belly dancing. It makes me happy ----------------- I can't stand swallowing big hard calcium pills, I use soft chews or the chalkey chewables (I kind of like them, just don't breath in while chewing! ) Bariatric Advantage Calciums. I like the cherry best... http://www.bariatricchoice.com/bariatric-advantage-bariatric-chewable-calcium-270ct-wildcherry.html Nice to hear from you! The boy sounds very nice. I love the PCH, its a wonderful drive, enjoy with mom. Laura said it had nothing to do with Gamegirl, but they sure did butt heads a time or two. I wish I knew if there was ever a chance that Laura was coming back, It mite make a difference if we invited Gamegirl., I like her too... Maybe we do need to start an other group, but I have hardly keep up with this one! I don't want to divert my attention from this one. -

FYI Gamegirl has asked me if she can join the group. I told her that its really about 95% personal chit chat and support, and 5% fast diet. She said that what she really needs is support. She is too close to surgery to be in the Vets forum and too far out to feel like she fits into the Newbie groups. Anyway, I said we were closed but I would hoist it up the flagpole and see if it flys... She said she would be interested in joining a new group if we form one. -
What a challenge, Bear is so lucky to have you by his side. When you were describing your situation, I thought maybe a yoga class, or even a yoga DVD when you cant get away, just a little every day.... to help you to stay tuned into your body. Maybe trade in the fudge pops for some frozen strawberries or slices of apple... Yes, do make a little change so you stop gaining, and give yourself enough nutrition to keep your health, and worry about taking that off later...Best of luck to you. Sending you peaceful thoughts.

FYI the Fast diet people have a new book coming out... its a 6 week boot camp... The Fast Beach Diet Plan http://www.amazon.com/Fast-Beach-Diet-Super-Fast-Programme/dp/1780722249/?tag=thfadi-20some of us are thin Some of us ate thinking about giving it a go... I am currently at maintinance using the 5:2, but would not mind losing another 5 pounds... -
I follow the 5:2 protocol. If I fast two days a week my average is 1,171 cals a day, If I fast one day a week its 1,371 a day. I can maintain on this so far. I exercise a minimum of 4 hours a week.

Being a vegetarian... I would have to say yes. some days not.... not sure what does it! I need to go through the underware again for sure! I remember seeing a study that showed a chart where gurd and weight gain went hand in hand after three years...not for everyone. -

I was looking around and I dont think the book has anything to do with southbeach... but getting ready to hit the beach! Its a 6 week boot camp with exercise and I think its 4:3 as well... A little kick in the butt might be just the trick!
