So Much Conflicting info
feedyoureye replied to samantha209's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree. It is more work to balance... I do cook, and make up little packets to throw into my lunch. I have been experimenting a little more with carbs, and I have to say, I was really hungry yesterday and I think the brown rice and lentil salad (delish) was the culprit. :^( ...live and learn! -
What has been the most shocking comment about the sleeve at any stage (pre-op, post-op) or about your weight loss?
feedyoureye replied to Becca's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thats what I thought too! As I look back at it, I was almost being an apologist for the weightloss...giving all the credit to the sleeve.... she hit the nail right on the head! -
Just a reminder: Those ups and downs on the scale are often just normal body behavior. Don't let it get you down people! Here is my daily weigh in for the last 6 weeks....As I sometimes have to remind myself daily, the scale is going down monthly!

I take a screen shot of it to my desktop, then upload as an image to the post.

The fiber in the skin is harder to digest, I find, even at 5 months I shy away from the skins sometimes. It just doesn't feel right. Most things Im fine with... its crispy apple skins, I eat about half of the time. You can get ultra fibers like celery, coconut and such staying in your stomach and not passing out...on the rare occasion...Chew well and cut into small pieces to help the stomach cope. -

Eating carbs and Protein at the same time reduces the surge of the carbs. Yogurt should be no problem. People who are sensitive sometimes even eat fruit with protein, nuts, cheese or something like that to avoid a spike. -
Here is the 12 month one which shows months before I got the surgery... you can tell when that happened!

HI Coops! I use Fitday.com, and they let you view your progress on a graph in about 8 time frames. If you input your weight daily, you get something like my graph. It helps me see the overview, and not freak out so much on the daily ups and downs. You go to Weight, then My weigh reports then choose a time frame from one week to 12 months. The view I used for that graph was 8 weeks.

I look at women and men bigger than I am now, and think "If they only new about the sleeve" or "Perhaps they don't have the money" or "perhaps they don't have insurance" For all I really know, they are happy the way they are... but I know how I was, and am going from that...I wish I didn't even notice the difference between fat and thin! ...but I do.

I have not been in Ketosis for over 4 1/2 months and have lost 60 pounds. Don't generalize how people should eat. Especially extremes. I do think your right that a lot of our diet these days is pretty sad and nutritionless...fat-salt-sugar laden junk. You can eat lots of low glycemic index veggies and carbs and still lose weight without going into ketosis. -

Thats really nice! The other day I was out with a gym buddy of mine (super athletic and thin) and someone asked how I was losing the weight... I said I had had surgery to make my stomach hold less, and my friend blurted out "She eats tiny meals and exercises 5 days a week!" So glad she could see how it really happens ! know it looks like magic, because all these folks that have a hard time getting and staying thin "all of a sudden" get thin and fit.... but really its eating less and exercising more... with a tool that helps us to eat less volume pretty consistently. -

I am a vegetarian, and that makes it a little harder to restrict carbs, but I defiantly lose weight better on a low glycemic index plan, like Southbeach... where the carbs are lower and I can avoid insulin spiking. Really, it reduces my cravings noticeably and this helps a lot to continue eating the right amount for the right reasons. -
About the food=pleasure thing
feedyoureye replied to tntransplant06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Food used to be my drug of choice! I would eat to get satisfied, but really, the satisfaction never came with food, but I kept eating it ... looking for that high.... I think it was the sugar mostly... that insulin response.... it caused continued craving, but not really satisfaction. Stupor yes- satisfaction no. I still get that craving... I guess its mostly head hunger, but could be the body craving its old drug of choice. I have to watch the sugar.... I can suck down cookies and chocolate and cake easy peasey. Protein first!!!!!!!! Its the only thing that really helps! (with a little sugar free pudding thrown in!) -

Day 76: Crikey I was Fat.
feedyoureye replied to crosswind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That might be a hard one.... Have you talked to a psych? That might be helpful. I know i write down everything except low glycemic veggies. I hate to be a slave to the counter... I have at different times refused to write anything down. I swore I would never again go on a "diet" where I had to write everything down... and here I am again. I am trying to make a different relationship to the scale and the counter...just to help realize one kind of measure of the progress... but not get too pushed around by the good and bad of it, or letting it push my "failure" button. -

Right on sista! I know we all have to eat little servings of whats right, and most of us work out too... thats supposed to be the secret to weight loss right? Eat less/exercise more? Perhaps she believes that she has a higher moral character than you? You should ask her if she is hungry all the time? Do her knees hurt? Does she carry a hundred pound sack of potatoes around on her back when she exercises? Has she ever been the fattest person in the room? Has she ever tried to lose 100 pounds? Then get off the high horse please! Moral character is surviving the list of things that can bring you down in life related to being fat like trying over and over again in the face of failure to lose weight by eating less and exercising more!....and still continuing to be kind and loving to others. ...ohoh, now I'm on the high horse! -

Glad to see you back, I just did a search to see if we were just ships in the night, and found this post. Sorry about the extra drugs...it may slow you down, but things will look up again as soon as you go off. Cheers, and glad to see you living life so well. -
Good for you! I notice more guys checking me out lately...cute guys too! I am married, but it gives my batteries a charge when a cute guy checks me out or holds the door for me or something...

So today I tightened up the food a bit, no sugar, gave the cake away, low fat snack and pretty clean. Also went to dance class as usual. My move is to eat protein snacks instead of junk snacks as a start, and try to bring down the calories by 50-100.
