All PPI, Nexium
feedyoureye replied to Ask Your DOCTOR's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is my understanding that calcium needs an acidic environment to be absorbed by the body. When PPIs are used long term, it changes the acidic nature of the stomach and most calciums cannot be absorbed because of this. calcium citrate is recommended for those on PPIs because it has its own acidic base to promote absorption. I have read studies that say even this may not be enough to keep some calcium from being leached from the bones for the bodies use... but 1700 mgs of Calcium Citrate seems to show some promise of reducing the bone calcium loss. I certainly hope to get off the PPI after 6 months if possible. Around 30% of people with the sleeve have acid reflux problems, and this is certainly one of the side effects of the sleeve. Ill see if I can find that study to post here. http://www.ptcommunity.com/ptjournal/fulltext/32/9/PTJ3209502.pdf -

Day 95: Possibly fat forever?
feedyoureye replied to crosswind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 6 months, I can eat around 3/4 cups of food, less in the AM, more if its Soup or something slidey. I went from 1/4-1/2 cup to that in about a weeks time. I can eat anything and must have a little cast Iron pipe for a stomach. I just read a couple of studios that talk about weight regain stats.... here ya go: Sleeve Gastrectomy Abstracts.pdf Check out the study on page two and ten The one on two talks about weight regain between years 3-6. The study on page 10 finds that the size of the remaining fundus does not affect weight loss! -
Hey how long till PIZZA
feedyoureye replied to BIG BOY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had pizza last night that I made myself. Here is a link to the recipe.. I wouldn't eat it until your stomach is pretty stable, its heavy, but very low carb My link I also make one using a low carb tortilla as the crust, that is good too! -

I believe this is why we are advised to take1200 mgs of Calcium citrate every day. I have read 1700 is better.... -
I think I read that is only takes 5 minutes...

Three month surgiversary: The fast and the slow
feedyoureye replied to crosswind's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I really do think those with a support system have an easier time and more successful time at losing the weight... DON'T FORGET US GAL! The "honeymoon" passes so quickly with the surgery, time will fly! And so sorry about the D-I-V-O-R-C-E. Yuck. I'm sure the extra hormones being released with the fat aren't helping with that. My husband thinks hes my dad sometime too... and he's 12 years younger than me. Sexy behavior...NOT!!! -
CW, sorry your having some troubles! Of course my mind leaps to the worst case scenario and I'm sure this is not the case for you... have you been eating lots of raw stuff? Fibery stuff? Celery, cocoanut, and such? The Fiber can build up in the stomach, and not be able to exit.... forming a ball that gets bigger... and makes less room for other food. If you have been eating lots of raw, perhaps try some papaya enzymes (come in tabs). http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/1550-obstructed-by-a-bezoar-has-anyone-else-heard-of-this/

Kelly, we were thinking July 30th, sound ok? We haven't talked about where or a topic yet...

Thanks Skcunningham! It still tickles me too! Except the last time I was that size I was 16 years old... Hahahaha! I think women don't want to give up their real body inches....unless they have a "trophy" size...it sure would make things easier finding the right size though! Maybe ladies pants would actually be consistent sizes then for a change....

Did you promise yourself any reward when you reached goal? Like a new wardrobe or something? Do you have any photographers friends? It might be nice to get some great photos of you boxing or in some slinky dress or however you like to see yourself at goal. I look at myself now, and I think "what if I stop losing weight now...can I have a great experience just the way I am?" I think I could. Many of the sleeve stats say the average excess weight loss is 57% or something like that. Im right there now. My weight loss has slowed down, but seems to still be going somewhere, so I think I can lose some more, but no guarantees it will be do my chosen goal. Good luck Coops!

How would you act differently if you went on "maintenance" than you do now......? Is it mostly psychological?

Help - ??s on Sleeve "Rules"
feedyoureye replied to Soon2BMiniMommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At over 5 months I can eat almost anything. I have lost the taste for the skins on apples and some other fibrous bits of pineapple and such. Bread and pasta are no problem, but I keep it whole grain or low carb versions. I have never thrown up but did slime once or twice from eating a little too much. I eat mostly slowly, and even when I bite off a normal sized bite, I swallow it in smaller bits. That goes for water and protein drink too. -
I am over 5 months out. The tummy at first was a lion! roaring and growling all the time. It was like dishwater sucking down the drain after drinking anything! It got better and better and now hardly makes any noise at all. I do hick-up now and then when I am full.

Take it one day at a time. My BMI was around 36.5 or so when I started and did not need to lose weight on a pre diet. You are doing it for the right reasons... just be careful you dont lose too much weight for your insurance requirements... most say if you are under 35 BMI you are out of luck. -
When do you stop worrying and start living?
feedyoureye replied to june13sleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
..yes to what Foxbins said. .. it gets more normal as time goes on. For me it was about 3 months too, Im at about 5 1/2 months and things are pretty much the same as before surgery, but I eat less and exercise a little bit more. I started losing hair at 3 months and hope it stops soon, but no one but me has noticed. (besides my husband finding hair all over the house!...and my drains and brush...) Its all so worth it. -
