study by Dr in California of 5 year patients?
feedyoureye replied to MeMeMEEE's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks Foxbins... ...No correlation was found between gastric volume and excess weight loss..... I found a study that also shows this... see page 10 study... This looks to me like the difference between bougie sizes might not be that big a deal. It talks about how fast the stomach empties out relating to Excess weight loss more... What has been the most shocking comment about the sleeve at any stage (pre-op, post-op) or about your weight loss?
feedyoureye replied to Becca's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
A bus driver I see every week came over to me ... He then asked me if I was feeling alright, and how was my health... I said I was fine and felt great, and my health was better than ever. I lost weight to improve my health. I then jokingly said he must be thinking about my sister... He then leaned in and told me he preferred my sister... I think its fine that people have their preferences, but that was a little rude to my face! -
Morning star farms makes non meat meat products (freezer section) including breakfast sausage patties, links or crumbles that are good and high in protein...they might sit better than the "real thing". If something does not work, try it again later, the wee stomach changes its mind as time goes on... I know you dont like cottage cheese, but if you blend it and add some flavor syrup or fruit, is quite good and creamy without being sour... and very high in protein.

Carnie Wilson made the news today
feedyoureye replied to former_vbg's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The comments were rotten too! (By the way...She looks fantastic in that green dress!) The whole weightloss stigma is such a mess! No wonder she got the surgery in the first place. Good luck to us all with our surgery, and good luck with living in such a stupid society if we slip up! -
No one but your surgeon can answer that... He may oversew, which would bring the size down.. my surgeon said that some docs cut close to the bougie, others loose, some oversew, others don't.. so the size of the bougie does not tell the whole story. My doc used a 36, over sewed, and left the Pylorus end loose to avoid potential problems. I have never had any problems eating what I want, or vomiting after eating... I don't lose super fast, but steady. I have read one study that said that the amount of fundus cut off during the surgery (to the patients in the study) did not predict weight loss. see page 10 for study, it has to do with fundus size, content voiding speed and weightloss with the sleeve... Many people go into stall after 2-3 weeks, it often can last as long as 4 weeks. Sounds like you have a daddy of all stalls! Are you drinking all your water? I think the exercise is a must... at least walking. Did you lose a lot of weight before surgery? Sometimes this slows down the initial loss after... Are you drinking lots of salty stuff? Have you measured yourself yet? Do so today if not... sometimes we lose inches and not pounds. Do you need someone to look at what your eating/drinking? post here if you want someone to comment on it. Our bodies take their sweet time losing at times, keep up the good work and Im sure things will move. How much do you need to lose? people with less to lose lose slower... good luck!

3 month post-op dilemma
feedyoureye replied to Marie from Michigan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Veggies are a part of a healthy diet. I would make 4 meals and one snack to help spread it out a little bit. Your stomach will relax soon and allow a little more food, just take it slow, try. I make veggie soup with a variety of veggies, cooked till soft. This goes down real easy, and delicious. I can eat/drink around a cup or so of this, get veggies in, not too high cal or carbs, and treat it like a liquid... not with a solid meal. This is how I started getting in more veggies... now I eat some with meals too. I do stir fries, veggie pasta sauce (using dreamfields pasta) with protein of some kind.. I just eat the protein out first, then a few bites of vegies and sauce. You can do it! Adding in fiber is such a bonus to this high protein diet style. -
Love this too, I am really trying to keep variety in my diet, keeping it interesting. Eggface has some great recipes. I make muffins, waffles, ice cream, and much more that can and do belong in my new eating patterns. I am very satisfied at 6 months, even though I am NOT one of the people who experience no hunger. Learn to cook if you cant already, it is a fun and rewarding hobby! (not you chef, I assume you can already cook!)

Day 95: Possibly fat forever?
feedyoureye replied to crosswind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thats a lot to deal with! Glad things are getting better for you. My stall lasted almost 4 weeks. No fun, but I got through it...just a heads up to others that are stuck in the stall... things will pick up! -
Anyone Wish They Had Not Done Their Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
feedyoureye replied to Karelia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
6+ months here, I never had buyers remorse, but lots of adjustments to get used to for sure. I love it now, and continue to learn new things about my sleeve life every day. I tell myself I am eating out for the company, and not so much the food, but as time goes on, the food is in the picture more. I can eat anything now (good and bad!), but started out as a vegetarian that became lactose intolerance for the first month... that is better now and I can eat any dairy without problems. If you search this site, you can find lists of the yuck factor from WLS. Skin, hair, puke, pain, wrinkles, food mourning, 3 week stall (look that one up if you haven't already! People starting out go CRAZY when that shows up) and worse. In fact there are few here who did not experience at least one or two of these things. I know for me, perhaps my posts focus on the "glow" of the results, because they are really more important to me than anything bad that has happened to me. A chance for a longer life, my knees and joints are not yelling at me as often, I can up my exercise with JOY! Hike and interact with nature and people better, look hotter in cloths! Junk some of my meds and compete better in the work force. I recognize myself in the mirror after 20 years of WTF is that?! I am grateful and want others to have the chance to feel the same way. First month was the least "fun" of the process so far, but really, the 20 years before that were really the worst part! Not everyone is ready for WLS of any kind... heck not everyone is ready for regular dieting at any one time. The sleeve just evens that out by controlling how much you eat at a sitting on any given day.Sometimes I resist that control, but mostly I enjoy it. A LOT. -
So sorry to hear this. Best wishes.

Day 95: Possibly fat forever?

You know the three week stall is pretty normal? I had it too, and am at 2/3 of my weight lost at 6 months. I know it stinks, but you will be fine! -
As I near the end of my Weight Loss Journey...
feedyoureye replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Irene, we are is a very similar place... Im not in a 10, (5'8" 190lbs-size 14) but I am losing around 5 pounds a month, eating a variety of food, and pretty happy with how I look/feel. I would like to lose some more, but hope to be able to keep up around 5 pounds a month for a while longer...maybe 4-5 months. It is also important to me to not feel like I am dieting all the time, and have a normal feel to my life. I pretty much have that right now. I still want to be careful, because I know that regain may happen, especially after the 3rd year. It sure is a learning experience! and yes, a roller coaster at times too. Still love it though.... good luck to you in your new mindset! -

~ Not Sure What To Do

Many posts here from people who have had the sleeve over one year, and many who have revised from the band after band failure too... search and research! -
Sounds fine to me. Girl day!

...rubber bands with a little old socks thrown in! But all in all, rinsed well and dosed with a good tomato sauce and a little lemon and cheese, not too bad. I wouldn't cook them for toooo long.... I also read somewhere that they are not good for WLS patients... they get stuck? I have not tried them on my new stomach, so I don't know, just passing on what I read.

Anyone else out there required to take blood thinner injections after surgery?
feedyoureye replied to ChelseaChestnut's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did it for two weeks also. After the first shot, I didn't mind too much. It really went fast. I did have bruises, but they went away after I stopped the shots. Better safe than sorry! -
Well this is weird... and a little bit shocking!
feedyoureye replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I def get more attention from guys now... Doors being opened, approached at the gym, I think I mentioned a while ago that I ran into my ex-husband that I hadn't seen in 25 years and he and a friend totally checked me out. Guys stop me and start small talk, not always a "hit" but just friendly too... I like it, but a small pissed off voice in the back of my head says "Hey! I was always worth talking too!" I have had guys tell me I am beautiful... remember I am 58! I thought these days were over... guess not! I plan on enjoying it while I can (without pissing off my hubby of course!) -
