Hunger--the time game
feedyoureye replied to tntransplant06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
DS is Duodenal Switch, the sleeve is the first part of the DS process which is usually a two part surgery. If you don't lose enough weight wih the sleeve, you can convert ot the DS. http://www.yourbariatricsurgeryguide.com/duodenal-switch/ A Bougie is a weighted tube that is put down your throat and into your stomach where it acts as a guide to help the Doc to keep the staple line where they want it to be. It can be used to staple a certain size of stomach (lower numbers are smaller than larger numbers) I have a 36French, but some Doctors stable close to the Bougie and others staple loose, so the number is not always what it seems. http://mozmonq.posterous.com/vsg-qas-what-is-a-bougie -
I just bought two wonder bras at Ross... For you gals with little boobies, they really shape things up! I even get cleavage, which for me is near impossible! I just paid $8 each for grey leopard print. Comfy too. I went from a 44c/d to a 36 B or C so far....

One Year Anniversary Battle
feedyoureye replied to Globetrotter's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You have been through a lot! And we all go for comfort when that happens.... now you are "coming too" and starting back on the right trail. Just think about it, before the sleeve, those 53 days of staying the same would have been 20 pounds of weight gain! At least it would have been for me.... so back on the horse, and head in the right direction... its NOT too late. Stock up on treats you CAN have, sf pudding, cheese sticks... or whatever you like in that department. You can still enjoy life without sabotaging your progress. Good luck! -
Globetrotter! I haven't seen you around in ages! Perhaps I have been just looking at different posts... how ya doing?

~ Not Sure What To Do
feedyoureye replied to Samantha~Leibold's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The new stomach does stretch. It will not get to be as big as it once was. It might get to be 3-4 times bigger than when you first get it done... you start out able to eat maybe a quarter cup, and end up able to eat a cup (after 6 months or more). For some folks it seems to stay smaller, others larger...Some kinds of foods just slide on through, and you can eat even more of them. If you stick to dense Proteins first, you eat less. New studies show some people stretch out the esophagus end, from overeating, and have a return of some weight and increased reflux at the same time(after the third year, 30%). It is speculated that continuing nutritionist visits years out will help keep the weight off. I asked my Doc, who is the head of the Bariatric dept of a University teaching hospital, about removing the 'stretchy" part of the stomach...and he said "It is all stretchy" He also disclosed to me that he thought that the sleeve had a higher chance of regain than the RNY further out. He said this will not happen to all people, but you need to watch what you eat forever. I really want to believe that I have lost this weight "FOREVER", but I see the studies, and know MANY people with the sleeve, will have weight regain... perhaps not all of it, but as much as half of the total EWL. That is one reason to really use the honeymoon period to lose as much as you can, work on those exercise habits and take responsibility for eating habits... and not rely or blame the sleeve for your total success or failure... There is also an increase in depression at 3-6 years out too... will you be happy living with 50% of your excess weight lost? And not 100%? The newest statistics say most people will be happy with their results, even if they gain some of the weight back. Just reporting on what I have read... I don't want to go into a wishful fairytale land here, I want to go in prepared to be as successful as I can with the sleeve in the real world. So far I love it! -

My hair has been falling out for three months so far.. I can really notice it, but no one else seems to see it... they are too busy checking out the weight loss! My hair is to my waist, so its looking thin at the ends and will take 5 years to get this long again fully..... Its still shiny at least!

Good luck to you! I know when I eat refined sugar and carbs it makes me hungry for more... Backing off even a little might make a big difference. -
My mom used to make a casserole with it... cooked and drained yellow crookneck, eggs, milk, onions and salt and pepper... some cheese topped with Parmesan, baked in the oven. It was my fav. A quick version is what I posted above. Enjoy!

I use Dreamfields at 5 grams of digestible carbs per serving.. it tastes just like regular pasta. You can get it at many supermarkets. http://www.dreamfieldsfoods.com/ -

Im feeling for you! I have read that it is between years 3-6 where people have the most weight gain. Hang in there! Does Protein first help you? How many cups of food can you eat at one setting at this time? Still drinking all your Water? Good luck....I am only at 6 months, and can eat about twice as much as in the beginning... -
Its just one of those things, you start out feeling like a klutz, but if you stick with it, you get better and better until your not a klutz any more! If you are really interested, just don't give up! I have been taking classes for 3 years, and I can truly say I am much better than when I started. I really enjoy it and now that the fat is melting off, the belly dancer muscles are starting to show!

Proposed Meeting Place, Hayward, CA
feedyoureye replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If I don't have any conflicts, Vacaville wouldn't be to far for me to drive... or carpool with other Sac peeps...We are meeting in Sac at the end of the month too, right? I have to check the Sac meeting thread....we still need to figure where to do that too....July 30th? -
Some interesting studies for sure. All of the "this pound is now lost permanently" talk around here needs some tempering. Time will tell. (and out ability to stick to the rules enough to keep the weight off over time) Still better then any of the other methods I have used in the past!
