Official Ongoing Gastric Sleeve Maintenance Thread
feedyoureye replied to Oregondaisy's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Thanks for sharing all... I am not at goal yet, but can see some of the same impulses in my own eating habits.... -
' A technician that ran the bodpod machine used for my body fat test used a formula to figure it out... Sorry I cant tell you what it was...
-
Last two weeks I have been up and down, and up and down... Hope to get a little bit more down soon! I am eating more, between 800-1100..... leaning towards the 1000 mark... Just had my body fat measured and my resting calorie burn.... around 1500... so I should be losing a little faster....but my body has always been this way...SLOOOW to lose! Good news? I could live with this weight, even though I am still "overweight".... still working on getting more off, working out around 5 days a week. I'm at around 7 1/2 months out. Down 59 pounds plus 10 from before surgery.

Should I Sleeve if I am NOT A BIG EATER?
feedyoureye replied to sleevenaive's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The stomach and gut are two different things... I think the probiotic route sounds good as far as the gut goes. What a mystery! How frustrating! Can you do non spine exercises? weights with the arms, leg only or isolations of some kind? Getting the body moving, even parts of it might help get things going... -
Hope you feel better soon! That doesn't sound like fun!

Should I Sleeve if I am NOT A BIG EATER?
feedyoureye replied to sleevenaive's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are eating 600-1000 cals a day and have gained 35 pounds in 6 months, I don't know if the sleeve will help. That is about what you will eat for the first 6 months on the sleeve, and if you can't exercise anymore, then I don't know how much the sleeve will help you. The sleeve is a restrictive procedure... and you do lose some Ghrelin... the hunger hormone when you have the majority of your stomach removed. This ends or reduces hunger for many but not all people who have it done. Peoples tastes change, and the sleeve will probably keep you towards the 600 cal end of the scale for a while, but the stomach stretches out a little and you can eat more after 6 months or so. If you have been very honest about how much you eat, then I'm not sure I would get it done. Do you use a site like Fitday.com? May I suggest you really keep track of what goes into your mouth for a couple of weeks if you haven't done this, and go from there. Good luck with your search for the answer. -
I took Tai Chi years ago... Now I take belly dance classes.... and they both have lots of isolations, and layering of multiple movements. If you are not used to doing something like this, it will take a while to get into it and develop your brain and body. I have been dancing for three years, and really I am just starting to get "it". Many sporty people come and go, they say they feel uncoordinated and drop out... the difference between those that get good and those that don't is the ones that get good do not quit. With practice comes grace and strength. I gave myself 5 years to get half way good, and I will definitely need that much time. I also enjoy the class a lot. Find a teacher that teaches to you, not just the class as a whole. Enjoy! Tai Chi is awesome!

You could also replace the PB with peanut flour or BB2 to lower the fat and up the protein...love that taste!

There is a statistically significant percentage of people who get the sleeve who then get depression down the line. The Drs don't know yet what causes this... hormones, or whatever. He may be thinking about this. I have had low grade depression for long stretches of my life..my Doc warned me about this possibility.

Thats so great! Best of luck to you in the future. Cheers! -
We missed you and think you will really enjoy it. The little downtown of Vacaville is really cute. Perhaps we can all go back in 6 months for a followup? We also asked the guy to figure out how many calories we were burning at rest and with added activity... this is not on the bodpod printout. According to the formula I should be losing a pound every three days... which is NOT happening! I know... calories in-calories out.... but still don't think that is everything.... I am losing about a pound every 7-8 days.....which is more in line with my absolute resting energy expenditure number....

Foxbins, and I had a blast today... getting BodPodded and having a little walk and coffee break afterwards. Thanks Fox! So the BodPod says I have 36.9% body fat....I do not know if this is the same as my Ticker BMI number of 27.7..... I was thinking it was... but now that I look at the risk percentages on the paperwork... perhaps not. High risk in above 40% for women, 31-40% is Excess Fat (my BMI is in in the overweight range) and 23-30 is moderately lean.... I am going back to get measured again when I lose 25 more pounds or in 6 months... I do exercise 5 days a week already, but it was recommended to do weight training.....I walk for an hours twice a week, dance for an hour+ twice a week and ride my bike or something once a week for around two hours.

Calcium Citrate chewable--Which one taste the best?
feedyoureye replied to Penpen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just ordered my second GiANT bottle of Bariatric Advantage wild cherry chewables... I have come to enjpy them... WARNING! Do not inhale while chewing them, you get cherry lung from the dust. It is the cheapest way to get in good quality calcium citrate in a chewable that I have found. -

You don't get off that easy Indio! 4 years? Do tell. So glad to hear you have been able to keep of for so long. Any tips? Thanks, and I will keep an eye out for your DIL. -
Just a heads up, some fruits are high glycemic index, like watermelon is very high... all that means is they dump sugar into your blood stream quickly and get an insulin response...which makes you hungry. You are better off eating a piece of cheese or a few nuts or something with some Protein in it. Even if you eat protein with your fruit snack it will help reduce the insulin response.

study by Dr in California of 5 year patients?
feedyoureye replied to MeMeMEEE's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
We have gotten a fairly new stand alone procedure... I'm sure time will tell what needs to be done to get the best results. We are the guinea pigs! I am hoping by the 3rd-6th year there will be something to help those who were early out in getting the best continued results.... like a tighten up or whatever. Until then, i will just do the best I can muster... which will NOT be perfect.... but hopefully good enough! -
OK. So newest studies say that single stage VSG patients on average lose 60.7 percent of their excess weight. It seems like I see mostly people on here that are still early in the process of losing, or have lost ALL of their excess weight. So do you think that people who use forums lose more than the average because of accountability or some other factor, or people who lose more than average are more likely to post? Where are all the people who make up the longterm (3-5 years) unsatisfactory weight loss percentage? I have not had surgery yet, but am almost done with my tests... I of course would like to lose close to 100% of my excess weight....60 would be MUCH better than none of course...

Wow! Just the B12 and dehydration alone can really mess with you... hope you feel better soon!

Hair Loss - WTF!!??
feedyoureye replied to warrior68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Look up Hair loss in the search here, many/most get some and perhaps a lot. I am on my 7th month, 4 of those with hair loss... its getting pretty thin. People say different things about why, but in the end Docs seem to throw their hands up and really don't know why. Protein? Surgery? Anesthesia? Vitamins? I think the body goes into a mode where it throws the hair follicles into hibernation while the body does its wild thing. You have lost a lot fast... no wonder! I hear it will grow back... I sure hope so! -
Sorry you are having strange pains. I get them now and then too, mostly on the left side under the bottom rib... I chalk it up to the surgery, I think i must have some scar tissue and my insides were changed, so I think its just stuff settling in. Your gall bladder is on the right side, so probably not that...
-
I love them as a healthy snack, and enjoy them in the pod too, I like playing with my food a bit!
-
I think hormones must be part of it... could it be carb or caffeine withdrawal? Life can be a piss off sometimes... and making big changes like we have stir the pot too... Perhaps a chat with the Doc? Good luck with that...
