Official Ongoing Gastric Sleeve Maintenance Thread

Nice to see you here! I was wondering how you were doing. You look fantastic. I am not on maintenance yet, but pretty close.. For all intents and purposes I am not losing weight, and will probably be around this weight when I see where I am in a few months.
  3. So you just had your surgery? Congrats, and let us know how it went!

WhAt is the typical weight loss

I am stuck at about 14 pounds from goal, at 9 1/2 months out, but I am still working on it, and may still lose the rest over the next 8 months. I have lost 77 pounds including 10 before surgery. That is around 83.7% of my EWL(excess weight loss) including the 10 pounds. The average in studies is about 53 percent of EWL, but for those who are smaller to begin with (under 45BMI), the average is around 70%or so. As you can see here, many people lose more than that. Just do your best to follow your Drs advice, and a support group like this one REALLY helps. Cheers! Enjoy the ride!

    Eight Months Out

Marauders, AT 9 months I am having the same experience as you. I have only gained 4 pounds, and am working to take it off, but the scale won't budge all the way down to my lowest weight yet. I am eating around the same calories as you (900-1200), 5' 9" and exercise 4-5 times a week. It is frustrating, and I wonder if I should eat more. The numbers just don't add up... but then again, I never thought calories in/calories out was all there was to weight loss/gain. If this is where I land from the surgery, I am happy. I just don't want to gain the 10-20 pounds some do around the 3 year mark without having a lower goal met.... We will see! So far I have done great with the sleeve... its a life saver! good luck with your journey, and thanks for taking the time to write such a heart felt post.... PS... take care with the calcium, there are lots of studies that say that you need 1200-1500 calcium citrate a day to get enough to absorb in your system, and many with any kind of WLS are candidates for osteoporosis in the long run. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3134527/?tool=pmcentrez ..."Calcium, phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase, parathyroid hormone, and 25-hydroxyvitamin D should be monitored regularly in WLS patients. Calcium supplementation of 1.2 to 1.5 g/day and ergocalciferol dosing of 400 IU daily are recommended [135]. Calcium levels are maintained at the expense of mobilization from bone. Thus, it is important to note that secondary hyperparathyroidism manifests as a late consequence of calcium deficiency [136]. Treatment may require daily calcium dosages in excess of recommended amounts to prevent it [137,138]. In that calcium carbonate requires bioavailability of stomach acid, calcium citrate should be used to help correct the deficiency [93].".....

    Bounce

I have been on a stall for about 7-8 weeks....I am at 9 months out. I eat about 1200 cals a day, and exercise 4-5 days a week. During that 2 months I gained 4 pounds, and and have been bouncing around there, I am currently 2 pound over my lowest weight. I am about 15 pounds from goal. I figure I am where my body wants me to be, or I will start losing eventually. I guess the third choice is I will gain weight. At 1200 calories, and 5' 9", the charts say I should be losing every week. I guess I will just stay doing what I am doing, maybe up my exercise or change it a bit. I am happy eating what I am, and I look pretty good, but could use a little more fat loss. I'm with you. Frustrating for sure.

    Frustrated with a captial F

Isn't it a damn shame that we put so much self value into a number!? I do it too at times. I want you to sit down (sounds like you are already doing that...) and give your body a nice talking to....Be kind, and loving to it... it has done so much for you through the years and needs some TLC right now. Tell it that if it needs to swell up a bit and gain some weight, thats OK, that you know it will go back as soon as its ready. The meds are necessary for your healing process. Soon you will be healed and you can ditch the meds and get back on your pre injury track. Lay a love bomb on yourself! Its all part of the roller coaster ride! Huggs.

    Combo meals???

Old habits die hard! I often serve up too much, or order and take stuff home. Last night I went out with my husband, and I got a veggie burger and onion rings (WARNING!!! SLIDERS!!!) I drank some water... ate about 4 onion rings and tucked into the hamburger... about two bites later the OFF switch flipped. Husband was very happy about getting all those onion rings and the rest of the burger came home for lunch today. Not very protein rich! But I felt normal. I always protein load early during a day I will be going out to eat, just in case! Its really hard to find good protein eating out as a vegetarian.
  16. Fantastic Ouroborous! I have been watching you for a long time, and its great to see you continuing to have so much success with your efforts. I am in a long stall right now (about 6-8 weeks) and am 15 pounds from my modest goal. Perhaps I need to hit the gym more too. Your success is inspiring! Thanks dude.

    Am I doing ok?

At some time between 6-8 months you might think about getting some labs done, just to make sure your vitamins and such are in line. Better to keep up with that earlier than later.

Watch out where you point those things girlfriend! You could put someones eye out! And I'm sure they would love it if you did!!! Very nice tatas, and pretty bras too. Will you get a corset made to order when all is said and done? That would really cinch the deal. I see some cheesecake in your future (And I don't mean the kind you eat...)

    Losing hair

At nine months I am still losing hair, my guess is around 1/4-1/3rd of my hair gone so far. Its slowing down a bit, but has not anywhere near stopped. It is growing back...when I hold back my bangs I see a thick row of 1/2 to 1 inch long hair growing in.... my hair is down to my waist, so I guess I need to cut some off... it looks so thin at the ends, and the new growth wont catch up for years.....
  24. You are averaging over 3 pounds a week, that is fantastic!
