Salad and fruit have more fiber and the tummy does more work getting it ready for the gut. Chew well. Avoid celery and fresh coconut. I get some rumbles and burps to this day after 9 months, but can tolerate fresh better than ever (after sleeve). To get in more veggies, I make veggie soup and can eat lots of that without many calories and very Yum!

How soon after sleeve surgery were you working out? I love to hula hoop!
feedyoureye replied to sirensiren's topic in Fitness & Exercise
walking right away, 6 weeks for anything else. Can't lift over 10 pounds for 6 weeks... the staple line is not healed for 6 weeks. I couldnt wait to get back to the gym and my bellydance classes! -
How open were you about getting sleeved?
feedyoureye replied to cacilluf's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I told family, husband, co workers and friends. Then after, I told anyone who asked how I was losing weight. I try to include eating less and exercise as part of the reason, and not treat the Sleeve like it does all the work by itself. I have had no negative responses and one person is in the process of getting WLS now... two others look like they might do it in the future too. -
help struggling with head hunger I think
feedyoureye replied to aliescha's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The fuzzy teeth thing is from your body being in Ketosis. It gets better when you start eating a few more carbs and calories. The ppi really does help with the hunger thing early on. I was worried at 6 months if I went off the PPI I would be extra hungry again, but luckily I was fine. Its not that great to take PPIs forever... because of poor Calcium absorption. I hated sweet stuff early on, and it seemed like everything I was putting in my mouth was crystal light, Protein drinks and pudding. I started drinking unsweetened herbal tea, creamed Soups and chicken (Im a veg so it was fake chicken broth) I tried making a chai tea latte with Protein powder that was pretty good, and had a strong not too sweet flavor. (just don't get the protein powder too hot or it will clump) You can put unflavored whey in the Soup too to boost the protein. Good luck! Things will get better soon. -
Surgeon gave me the "all clear" to eat regular food but I'm afraid to...
feedyoureye replied to Sleevie WonderLand's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is normal. The good news is eating regular food works fine to lose weight with the sleeve! In fact, the sleeve and restriction work BETTER when you eat the real dense protein that comes with real food. Just take it slow, and you will see the water is fine! chew well, don't drink with or after your meal and journal to keep track of protein, carbs and calories. At over 9 months out, I can eat quite a bit of food (but next to everyone else... not so much) and am still losing slowly in the home stretch. I have never been able to lose this much on any diet I have gone on in the past 45 years. Enjoy eating REAL food! -
I think this IS a pretty big problem that could become ugly. Asking you to leave your job is not cool. I think you can be reassuring, and all that, but unless he recognizes that HE has the problem in the relationship at this point... then he will continue to feel threatened by other mens advances. He is helping to fulfill his own worst nightmare! Would he go to couples counseling? Read up on this? (self help books) I know you are attracted to macho men... and it sounds like this may be the down side to that...controlling you when HE feels out of control. My husband has asked me if I have been spending time with my boyfriend while he was gone out of town... he was "joking" but that comment came from somewhere... he has a hard time hearing my reassurances when I give them too. I think he is right that there are more choices for you(and me too) out there... maybe not a bunch of real great choices, but choices none the less. If he keeps doing what he is doing, one of those choices will start to look pretty good as an alternative. He... you both as a couple need some help. (My 2 cents) Perhaps he might read this thread to see what your feeling in writing?

Experts - Does it go away? Get easier?
feedyoureye replied to Soon2BMiniMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The hunger hormone is still in your body... your stomach is injured and in healing mode.. your fat is unloading estrogen that makes you crazy for a while (if your a gal)...Your stomach can't yet feel if its full or not because a bunch of nerves were cut during surgery... you could possibly have acid if not taking a ppi..that can mimic hunger... and you are BOARD out of your gourd because you are restricted to what you can eat and how much after years of eating whatever however much food you want to distract and comfort. All huge changes from our old norm. Soon the swelling will go down, the stomach will relax, The hunger hormone will subside, and your food choices will get broader. Things will look more like normal pretty soon. You MUST measure your food and eat the right foods for a little longer... you do not want to tempt a leak or strain that raw staple line at this point! One thing you can do is measure, then eat extra small bites, stretch the meal time out to 30-45 minutes for a 1/4 cup... not kidding here! It helps the brain to appreciate the food a little longer... if you are going too crazy suck on a sugar free mint, or drink mint tea. Write everything down you eat, even if you slip up and graze. Its good to be accountable for what goes down the hatch. Perhaps 7 small meals would work better than 3 meals and a snack. I eat from boredom sometimes too... but I write it down and adjust later to keep in line. Many people go into the infamous 3 week stall too... Mine lasted I think 4 weeks and started around 2 1/2 weeks... this can mess with your head too... just keep doing what the Doc ordered and you will get though it. Minutes go slowly, the the year will fly by... do what you need to do now, work on it, find things you can do to help get you over the few minutes a day that can lead to ruin. drink you water, save a bite from your measured meal to "cheat" with later... use those protein shakes as medicine... they help you get in liquid, protein and fill you up for a while without grating on the stomach line. Remember, your stomach is not healed as much as it will until AFTER 6 weeks. Hang in there, its so worth it! -
OK , on June 14th I was about 30 pounds out... today on November 7th I am about 10 pounds out... I mentioned I was feeling a little cheatiy...well now I just call it normal life. I watch a little, I have what i want a little, I write it all down, and I lose. Its fantastic. Lately I have added some carbs (90-140 a day) , and calories and it jump started my losing again. I'm up to about 11-1400 cals a day, 60-80 proteins, 4-5 days exercise. Love it.

My doc told me that protein drinks, gatorade, decaf tea, milk, water, soups, crystal lite, etc all count towards your water intake. Just not drinks with caffein. I think it is the best to go with straight water too, but to start out that is almost impossible, so go with what you can do. I found peppermint or camomile tea went down nicely.

Back with more questions
feedyoureye replied to x4achange's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your tummy has been though a lot! And YES! Things will change and get lots better. My stomach used to sound like water sucking down the drain! It is much quieter now. Some say don't drink from a straw, that you get more air when you drink...Also as mentioned by lily, perhaps your PPI is not working for you... After 7 months I went off my PPI, and all is well. The protein drink question really just takes some time to figure out... get samples to find one you like best. Also, your tastes will change over time... I could not stand sweet stuff at first, now no problem. I found "4EverFit" drinks the best most natural flavor protein... from Vitamin World or Vitamin shoppe or on line. Mango is my fav, but black raspberry is good too. Not as heavy a whey flavor, and a more natural fruit flavor and low color. (the Nectar are practically florescent!) Just wash that cup out asap! Nothing smells worse than whey bottle gone off.... It all just takes time. And you will be looking back soon and thinking "I can't believe a whole year has gone by and I am at almost at/at goal!" -

Unreasonable fears/disaster about living with VSG surgery
feedyoureye replied to gettingpissed's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think doing it for the health is the best reason to have this done. How you feel about yourself and the way you look are a huge bonus. And I am practically living at Goodwill! Find a thrift store or two that carry a good selection... I have one near work that get the best donations...and they rack them by size so it makes things easier... Your Dr. sounds like a keeper to me.... -
1 month out and nothing is going right
feedyoureye replied to Toniawf's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Do come back to the board often. Read up here on others that have been in the same situation. It does really help. You are welcome here, and in no time you will be back into your regular routine, except you will be losing weight to goal! -
EVERYONE NEEDS TO KNOW THIS!

Finally got a date for surgery - November 15th
feedyoureye replied to scottiff's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats you guys! Longer-life... I have seen you around here for quite a while.. I think using this board REALLY helps smooth out any bumps in the road of this surgery... I think it must bring up the statistics for success for the people who use it for sure! I can't really imagine NOT having this board to rely on day to day. -
5 months or more out, how many calories per day?
feedyoureye replied to kemo46's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thats about where I was at 5 months. My Nut recommended 800-900 through the middle phase of losing. I am at 9 months now and eat around 1100-1400 a day. exercise 4 days a week. Eating a little more helped me come out of a 6-7 week stall not long ago. -
8 months out and need help!
feedyoureye replied to lilchappy1980's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Part way into my 7th month I started a 6-7 week stall. I am not perfect, but I do log everything I eat and watch my calories (1100-1300), exercise, eat enough protein, eat around 100 gms of carbs a day... sometimes more... I am only about 12 pounds from goal, and I know it will be slow. I did up my calories and make some more carb choices right before I started losing again..slowly. I figured my body was done... but luckily it is not done yet. I am a vegetarian, and you do get more carbs eating that way. I look good, and my friends all say I don't need to lose more, and I just tell them I am going for the medical "norm" for best health. They can understand that. I am not shooting for the lowest in my BMI norm... But my body will stop when it is ready, and if I need to I'm sure I can eat more than I do now. Hang in there, and treat yourself nice. Its just part of your personal roller coaster ride. -
Diet plateau from h*ll!!
feedyoureye replied to KitKatKate's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I vote for stall. Do write everything down. It helps us to keep on track and conscious. One day you will get on the scale and you will be lower. My longest stall was around 6+ weeks long. I added some more carbs and calories, and started losing again. Just keep with it and shake things up a little now and then, and it will come off. -
Surgery with Atriel Fibliration
feedyoureye replied to lulunics's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was 57 with AFib when I got the surgery. No problem. They just made sure I was on my meds. I had to crush them for the first few weeks, and eat with applesauce. My cardiologist wrote letter of endorsement for my surgery. I take aspirin as one of my meds, and I had to get permission to NOT take it for the first month after surgery, which was no problem. Have your mom pm me if she has questions.... I have cut my beta blockers down by half because my blood pressure went down so much! -
Do you still get hungry?
feedyoureye replied to Ready4aNewLife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
are you supposed to be off of liquids yet? Most are not for 2-4 weeks... Just take it slow. the stomach may still be numb from surgery and you might not even be able to tell yet what is going on. Also the hunger hormone is still in your system for a little while. Everyone is different, just take it slow. Things will change. It may not even be hunger that you are feeling.Make sure you are drinking your Water, and Protein drinks. Are you taking a PPI for acid? I did not lose my hunger, but it is much reduced and manageable. -
