Questions For Veterans
feedyoureye replied to ShouldBlittler's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Research papers with small sample 5 year results only started coming out late last year(2011) so anything said about the VSG longer out than that is pretty much hear say. I would ONLY listen to those who actually had it done earlier for longer term personal results. I do have one friend who had much of her stomach removed over 30 years ago. She lost lots of weight at the time, and has gained lots in the last 6 years. No one ever told her she might lose weight from her stomach being removed... and no one ever told her how to eat to keep the weight off (protein first and such) She has never had problems with her stomach the whole time. She can lose weight and feel good about eating small portions of protein and low carb veggies when she weans off the refined carb goodies. -
Its probably not the worst thing you could have done... but I find when I give myself an inch, it leads to a mile... let your stomach rest. Soon enough you can have some treats. I had sugar free chocolate pudding with a spoon full of peanut butter, or PB2, or almond/flax butter to get my Reeses fix as soon as it was ok with the Doc.... probably around 3-4 weeks... I still try to stay away from sugar alcohols too... they can cause gas and stomach upset... who needs that!

I came out of the surgery 10 pounds up. I started losing shortly after that. Drinking lots of water helped to get things going. -
A Letter To Myself The Night Before Surgery- Written 1 Year Ago

You look lovely, and the letter idea was such a good idea! Congratulations on so much success. -
So sad your feeling rotten! There was a nasty flu going through California last month, it seemed to hit everyone, started in the throat... sometimes went into the lungs and even the tummy for some. I had it for 3 weeks before I felt better. Luckily, the tummy was spared. Happy birthday, how you feel better soon...

Coops. My method for "forgetting everything bad" this weekend was eat anything I want and don't write it down! I had cherry pie with ice creams for dinner one night. Thank goodness for the sleeve...left some on the plate. I was out of town for 3days/2nights.... I guess the eating thing was a bit of an experiment... I am so compulsive about writing food down, and weighing every day... my scale broke and I went off to LA and ate everything I wanted. Came back, got a new scale and just like magic! up 4 pounds above my lowest! I know its mostly water... and I wasn't planing to do it forever... actually kind of relieved to be home and eat more salads and protein first. I must say I did enjoy the pie and the fries, and the margarita.....Back on track willingly today. The sun is shining, the birds are fighting over the best branch and the cutest girlfriend... spring is nearly here. -
58 here... I went on a road trip to LA this weekend. I was there for 2 nights. I decided to have a "free" trip... not write any thing down... eat what ever I felt like at the moment...(read that extra carbs and fat) and enjoy! Thats what I did. Thai food, cherry pie a la mode for dinner one night... fries smothered with cheese and such... it was all really tasty. I could not finish anything... thanks to the sleeve, leaving pie and ice cream on the plate blew my mind! I did have a sweet tooth, and bought southbeach protein snack bars to carry with me instead of hitting the doughnut shop one day, and had a protein tray from Starbucks on the way home.... when I got back, I figured my calorie intake for the last day and it was around 1800 cals. I had gained 4 pounds. I'm sure three of this is mostly from salt and carbs and will come off fairly fast... but still... if I ate this way every day... up would go the scales like magic. It was EASY. The mindless eating does it every time. Some foods are "sliders" they just slide on down, do not give much of a full feeling and are often full of salt, sugar, fat and carbs. I am glad I ate the pie for dinner... but really, that behavior is one of those things that has to be pushed WAY back to the rarely done category. If you graze, eating small amounts of food all day... especially slider type foods, this is a way to cheat the sleeve too... get more food in over time. Drinking during meals can help wash food through and make room for more quickly. There are plenty of ways to cheat the sleeve. At first it may seem impossible, but the sleeve does stretch (just to a point... never all the way back) but if you can eat twice or three times what you could eat early on, and eat the wrong things... it really adds up. The sleeve is a wonderful tool! It is our habits that will decide if the tool is being used the right way over time.

Kale is a green leaf in the cabbage/broccoli/brussels sprouts family. It has a slightly leathery texture, with a mild flavor. I chop it up fine and eat it raw in a salad of blueberries, walnuts and white stilton cheese. I use a little flax oil and aminos or soysauce as a dressing(1/2 t of flax, and about the same of ginger-soy). I also use it in soups, stir fry or however. Its very high in Omega3s. -

Calcium Vs. Calcium Citrate
feedyoureye replied to Happy Camper's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I take Bariatric Advantage cherry... kind of chalky, but I have gotten used to them...sort of like sweet-tarts, and think them a treat now. I also have the chocolate and they are OK, but not as nice as the cherry, I buy in the giant tub for the best deal. Studies say the the citrate is better absorbed for anyone. Not just WLS folks. Studies also say you really need around 1700 a day... I don't take that much.... but there you are. Trader Joes have chewable vitamins that arn't bad and not too expensive. -

I hope eating healthful veggies is never a cliche in my book! (I'm from California though.....) The farmers market is inspirational... why not eat local and organic!? Its smart is so many ways. Support your local farmers. I have been eating some Omega three eggs lately, and they are so much better tasting than the regular.... I am hoping to come to NOLA at the end of April... any suggestions for good veggie restaurants? -
-I STILL insist on drinking my coffee before during and after my Breakfast (the same cup). The other meals I don't seem to have the temptation... -chocolate chips are my OTHER husband. It appears we are married too. I do measure and log them into my fitday EVERY DAY. -Sometimes I eat my carbs FIRST. I do however manage to get my Protein in every day... How about you?

Before becoming a vegetarian I ate raw beef, eggs and fish.
