  1. Hi everyone, I've been scheduled to have my surgery 3/6/12. Congrats to all you and I hope you all are doing well! I look forward to following everyone's success.
  2. Hey! I'm in Silver Spring Md and I will be having my sleeve 3/6/12 in Portsmouth, VA. I'd love to talk to anyone else who is going through the process of getting sleeved or has already been sleeved. I've fought so hard with the military hospital system and now that I have my date, it's kind of hard to wrap my head around it. I'm really nervous!
  3. Congratulations on your surgery date. I recently scheduled my surgery for 3/6/12. I have the same apprehension that you do, but I come to the board daily to read people's success stories and remind myself why I'm doing this! I wish the best for you!!
  4. Hello, The hospital should have a patient advocate that you can call and I would call them ASAP. Make your voice heard. They are caring for YOU and your opinion and concerns should be addressed. You know your body better than they do. I hope it all gets better from here. Remember you are your biggest advocate.
  5. Such motivation for me!! Congratulations!!
  6. Thanks for the encouragement! being able to exercise is one of the things I look forward to doing once some of this weight is gone.
  7. I live right down the street from Holy Cross and I had no idea they had a support group! thanks for the heads up.
  8. Congratulations!!! Its always great to see the scale move
  9. Hey everyone, I haven't posted much, but I lurk here quite often. I'm sitting in front of my laptop with a manometry tube down my nose, an uncomfortable lump in my throat, pain from gallstones, and anxiety because my pre-op is a week away. I was so motivated, exercising, changing my diet, doing everything they told me to. I'm strong, I'm smart, I know I can do anything I set my mind to, except lose weight on my own. And that, the fact that I can do anything but lose weight, is what is terrifying me about going through with this. The what if's. What if I go through with loosing over 70% of my stomach forever, with nothing to show? What if I subject myself to all this pain, torture, medical tests, a lifetime of not being "normal" to lose only 30 pounds? I know I'm in that pre-game jitter phase, and I recognize the crazy, self-doubting talk, but its starting to win and I need a little help.
  10. Hi All! I'm looking for sleevers in the DMV area. I hope to be sleeved in August and it's really hard to find good support groups in this area. Feel free to post here or send me a message!
  11. Im natural and locked. I started with a buzz cut last May and it was my third time going natural. The first two times did not last because mentally I was not ready to accept my hair the way it was. Now I'm loving my hair and my locs! What kind of guidance are you looking for? If you want to email me, I'll be happy to talk to you about going natural Congrats to the ladies who got their dates!!!! I cannot wait for my time
  12. Congratulations! I look forward to seeing your progress.
  13. Hey Shanny, You're in my area!!
  14. Hey everyone!! Im new to the site and new to the journey. I've started the process and am now waiting for my meeting with the surgeon. I'm not really sure where I am in the process, it seems the military has different requirements for approval. I friend requested almost everyone in this forum and if I missed you please friend request me This site has been very helpful and informative, but connecting with other African-Americans that are being sleeeved is priceless!
  15. That is very inspirational!! I love before and after pics. Congratulations on your success!
