  1. Hi, I am from Clayton nc and I went to Dr Peter Henderson, he works at Rex Hospital also and will held surgery there. Have you hear from him? I was searching about lapband for a while but did not have luck for referrals. This Dr. seems to know what he is doing but I woudl like referrals from him. I went to seminar and Phycologist appt. My Dietittician appt will be next week and I am also planning to attend a weight loss forum at Rex. I was very confused about what surgery to get, finally I decided lapband because it is the only surgery my husband is agreed with for being less risky. Please keep me posted about your success? have you lose weight since the date of your surgery? Are you hungry? My problem is I eat too much and I hungry all the time, I am not eating too much sweets or Pasta I just like to eat.......

I hope you can keep in touch, I really need support in this, it is scary but I am so excited I can't wait to change my life and feel normal again. I HEARD DR ENOCHS IS VERY GOOD, I MAY CHANGE DR. PLEASE GIVE ME SOME ADVISE, I AM CONFUSED ABOUT THIS.

    Thanks

Hello, I am from Goldsboro, NC and my decision to get lapband was the best ever. I had surgery on March 19th 2010 with Dr. Enochs in Cary, NC but actual surgery was done at Rex in Raleigh. I am down 57 lbs, starting weight was 246 at initial consult and this morning I weighed 189.2. Please if you have any questions feel free to ask. I LOVE LOVE LOVE MY BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was banded 01/14/2011 at Rex Hospital by Dr. Scott Bovard with Bovard Bariactrics in Raleigh. On tomorrow I will be 14 day post op. I feeling better every day. I started the process on 10/25/2010 by attending a face to face chat with the doctor, then attended two support groups (clients of the doctor), corresponded with several members of the group personally, pre op test/psy eval on 11/28/11 (all coordinated by the medical office and at the same location), meeting w/ medicall staff at Rex on 12/28 and the doctor on 12/28, banded 01/14.

  7. Your story sounds great. I heard about other people who failed with lap band. I decided to do it and I am so scared but happy at the same time. I really need this to be done, well as all of us, I have Dr appt tomorrow just the first appt....... hope this will done soon. I heard about gastric plication surgery and I am very interested but I dont think the dr I will see can do it. I heard very good comments about this dr, it is in Raleigh NC but I dont have nobody who have it done there...... I really need help and support, hope we can talk about it. Thanks a lot.

    Well Hello,

I am losin and lovin and that is what I am doing. I ma going to be 52 next month. So far I have gone from a size 28 to a 16/18. I recently had a set back because of stress from a divorce. I am back on track and ready to move forward. I would like to be further along my but surgeon says life happens and when it does it takes a toll on every part of your bodies including our band. IT DID!!! I have been banded for coming up to 2 years. My wonderful surgeon was (and is) Richard Collier in Conroe Texas. I would highly recommend him. If you are not in that area and are looking for a surgeon I can recommend going to local hospitals and ask around to see who has the best care. I asked who the nurses liked to work with, what the nurses thought of the doctors bed side manners and after care. I was not only told who to go to but who not to go to. Once in the wiating area for surgery nurses were discussing who was going in next and for what and what needed to be done to prep them. The common comment was "That is Collier's, she needs nothing from us". When I quesitoned why, they all assured me he is the best prepared and the best at preparing his patients. So research your surgeon. Visit with him several times before the procedure. I got the best and after all this time, he and his staff are so extremely helpful. I have been very active as a motivator on another site Journey Lite, however it has gone to just three or four of us that will comment. Many will view not many will comment. So I am looking for some action so to speak. I love my band and what it has given to me and I love to share it with people so if you have ANY questions, I will be happy to chat with you. It has changed my life, my health and my personality. All in good ways. I also write a weekly motivational email for a Weight Watchers group at work. I am not a member, but I am the coordinator. I will encourage anyone with a need to lose weight. If I can say something to help them on their journey I will. I would love to help people before they get to the point I did where surgery was my only option. I will warn you, I am wordy when it comes to things I believe in and I do believe in the lap band. I also am writing a book about my journey, so some of what I will post will be from that as well. So this is me, I am glad to make some new friends. I will be a faithful poster and responder so let's get started.

  8. I just joined today. i was actually surfing to see if there was a dating site for lap banders lol. April 27th will be my one year anniversary. Had a fill last night. 149 pounds already!

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!! You lost a lot of weight. I am very excited about it. My Dr. appt. will be tomorrow. Hope I will have the results you did. I hope I can have the surgery soon. Where did you go? I am going to Raleigh NC. Wish me luck.

  9. Hello All,

I was banded on 3-24 in Durham, NC by Dr. Portenier. Prior to surgery he told me about Gastric Plication and told me that I could have that done at the same time as the band. I opted to do it. Kinda like 2 WLS in one. Just wondering if anyone else did this?? If so what your experiences thus far have been?

I felt absolutely awful the first week after surgery. A lot of gas on my chest, shoulder pain, nauseous constantly and many, many esophageal spasms. The 7th day was much better and I have felt more normal. I'm not doing so great at sticking to the all liquid diet for 3 weeks. I have had some mushy Proteins. Like cottage cheese and refried Beans.

I'm still not taking in a lot of calories a day.... still staying hydrated like I'm supposed to, but the scales just aren't moving down. They did the first 5 days. But nothing after that.

I appreciate this forum and I love hearing the success stories!
