  1. I am day five and whoever said day five is a turnaround is So right! Today the liquids go down without pain!!!!! This is huge as getting fluids in , Protein, Water, tea, anything- has been MAJOR work until today. I still have to sip of course, but don't have to wait for the pain to pass and the huge burps to subside for the next sips. I am still setting my phone timer for every fifteen minutes and drinking 2 ounces as that has worked for me- and I keep a variety next to me to drink0 currently black decaf tea, propel grape, water, and the nummy chicken broth my husband made for me with powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored Protein powder in it. Yesterday I managed about 48 ounces fluid/40 grams protein - today I plan to do better. One of my issues was that the Protein drinks I adored presurgery were suddenly yucky and actually caused me to vomit. I felt like the net had been pulled out from under me- and along with the pain, the gas, and the trouble drinking it made for a really hard few days. I admit I cried a couple of times day 2 and 3 feeling I would never be able to do everything I needed to do to heal and get back to life. I have fibromyalgia and it was not until after surgery that I thought about what that might mean to my recovery. I am sure it amplified some discomfort. I haven't been as good about walking and I need to do better- I just did not feel up to dressing and my walk in my robe extends to my block of long time neighbors who all know the crazy cat lady at the corner and have seen it before. Anyway- for me five days is the charm- I am not at ALL worried about getting my fluids in today and am pushing to do a lot better than 64 ounces as I do find I have had diarrhea every other day. I don' know if this is normal and will talk to my dietician and doctor on Monday about progress in general. I will get about 60 grams of protein today and when I get some more supplies should do better. My husband will be way buff since he will drink the protein drinks I can't abide now- and that leaves me scrambling and without the supplies I thought I had ready to go, For the record my solutions so far are Champion Pro something or other 100 mixed with 8 ounces of cold decaf coffee and belnded with three ice cubes in the morning for 30 grams, and Unjury unflavored powder mixed with that nummy broth I mentioned. I only have a couple of samples of that powder so have to look locally and in any case I do not like the amount of powder you have to use to get 20 grams, I would like a little more bang for my powder. OK RV peeps- chime in with your story! ps I have never, even when I was crying regretted this surgery for one minute!
  2. My doctor gave me omeprazole and I am instructed to take one a day for ninety days even if NO acid. I am doing it- as he also told me when I asked that he has not had patients with a later acid problems and certainly not one needing revision surgery.
  3. I am fifth day and I think it is normal to have trouble drinking. It sounds if at least you CAN drink- I was hurting at first so that is great for you! I would set an alarm every fifteen minutes ad try to get a couple of ounces down. You really need to watch getting dehydrated, especially with diarrhea - I also have that and am really being vigilant as I do not want to end up in the er on an iv. Good luck!
  4. Also five days out and just getting better at swallowing. I think it takes about four sips to drink a tablespoon- I have been setting my phone alarm for every 15 minutes and using the 30ml/2T /1ounce in little cups I got from the hospital to measure what I drink - I make sure I drink two every alarm. The other thing is that whatever you drink after has to be palatable to you. The Protein drinks I loved before surgery made me vomit. So planning on this supplement might be risky! I have found some things that work, fortunately. You wont really know until you are post op- and in addition I think you will need to find some protein supplements that can work long after that to help you keep your protein up for the long haul.
  5. Not a requirement for me though I have seen it mentioned once on You Tube by someone on the east coast.
  6. You can actually fix that- click edit and then click full edit (sic) and the title will become editable! I will divide my votes between you and our other candidate, since you can vote every day
  7. Awesome! I am still not weighing because of all the fluids I had and now everything I drink seems to stay in.
  8. Yes I have a call in to my dietician. TIffykins said that the protein in thos shots is a different kind of protein and not digested in the same way. My. doctor does not recommend them. In any case- I am in no condition to try and quickly get something gross down while everything hurts goin in. There is pain on swallowing anything right now and slow sipping is all I can do. Unfortunately our brita filter water made me puke too. Smart water turned out to work, but slowly, and it hurts. I am shockd at the change in taste buds. I am not allowed milk- I am allowed Clear Liquids and Protein drinks for three weeks. It has been difficult. I guess my point would be to look beyond your own experience and know that everyone has their own, and it might be completely different from yours. And not because of a mistake they made, or lack of preparation, but simply because they are different. Today was better -hooray!- my husband made wonderful chicken broth while I was in the hospital and strained it, chilled it skimmed off the fat, and made ice cubes for me to use- I added unjury unflavored powder and it worked- it hurt- and took forever!- but I got it down. Day by day! That is all we can do.
  9. I am having some issues with protein drinks but tonight I stirred unjury plain proten into homemade chicken broth and it's great! If you are having yogurt, etc. add protein to it- add it to anything you can have that it will mix with. I think that will help. Of course today- 4th day, I can't imagine ever hitting my numbers!
  10. At least SW doesn't charge for checked baggage! I am from Redwood City but I had my sleeve done locally on Monday. You will be fine. I'm happy to help answer questions about the sleeve in general!
  11. I hear you on the doctors all differing! Not only that, but most people who use my surgeon get to have cottage cheese, yogurt, cream Soup, etc. the fourth day but for some reason he is having me do THREE weeks of Clear Liquids plus Protein shakes. I cried when I got his email. Like you I am just remembering that my sleeve will be the better for it. Sigh. Good luck to you!
  12. I bet you liked that hotel- I will have to see- I stayed there a few times.
  13. You are so right! i have had to beg my husband and son NOT to make me laugh! I am pretty tired tonight, for sure. I find it too hard to hold the phone up! But we can be sleeve buddies for sure. I will prop me up in a little bit to do a video too so everyone knows I survived! RE Meds- the first day was tough. I cut things in half with a pill cutter if they are larger as my doc says to do that for larger than pea size. I take them first thing in the morning with some warm tea and hope for the best. I got my acid med in a Gelatin capsule- that goes down well. I am very lucky as both of my pain meds are ideally suited for the sleeve. I use the fentanyl patch, lightest dose-12, and that requires no swallowing. For breakthrough pain I have dilaudid 2mg- a teensy weensie pill- again ideal. In the hospital my doc used dilaudid iv for my pain pump so it was familiar- though man it works fast IV! When I have pain at home I wish I could get it to work so fast! So far no pill has caused me to vomit at home. The only time that happened was when they crushed one n the hospital, and gave me a powder in Water. GAG! Give yourself space and time to adapt and as I have learned this week- don't be hard on yourself if you don't progress as fat as others- they don't face the challenges you do. Hugs sweetie! This will be behind you soon enough and you will be so happy!
  14. Yep- but I think it is three bruises from three shots grown together. I read a thing about the bruise being different depending on the duration of the shot. Some of the nurses were very adept- others, not so much. Maybe I will see if the on call doc can receive pix on his phone!
  15. First of all nothing anyone says here will serve as my medical advice! I also think every once in a while we can be calmed down when in a heightened state to realize we actually do not need medical advice! In the hospital I had six heparin shots in my stomach- and every time they did it in a different area. Of course the level of skill in giving them varied widely! There are bruises, some much bigger than others, and a particularly big one on my left side. Since coming home I have been lying on my left side to sleep- going back and forth from that to my back. Left side is my sleep side, normally. Today I noticed the left side is more painful than the right (well that is where my sleeve is right?) But tonight looking in the mirror I thought maybe the biggest bruise had grown and perhaps met the others- my husband thought so too though we have not truly had that good a look since I got home as I was too busy desperately trying to get fluids in! Anyway the bruise surrounds one of my incisions too- does that affect anything? I know nothing about heparin so I don't know if lying on this is causing it to bleed more, etc. I can also send this photo to the doctor on call but wondering if there is any reason... My abdomen is also bloated and I am thinking that will cause pressure on the bruise and incisions. Ths photo is right under my left breast on my upper abdomen and stretches around.
  16. I do appreciate them saying to listen to my intuition about artificial sweeteners. But being as I had my sleeve already I certainly do not need a referral! I'll tell you something Renee- as prepared as I was I didn't think about my fibro for a moment! D'uh! Other than the fact that I believe taking the weight off this body of mine will dramatically benefit all my conditions- including my fibro. You need to put those fear aside- fear serves no purpose! Remember that even though I can hardly hold my head up right now (late afternoon early evening is a low energy time!) I would not change a thing. I am even too tired to post but giant hugs to you and you have a friend here to help you through your surgery when the time comes- it is great I will be a little bit ahead of you so you can have hope!
  17. I can't help but come back to your post. Seriously this was just plain insulting. I did thorough research and made life changes months ago . Stevia worked for YOU. YOU hit your goal in five months. YOU had no problems with any of the phases, apparently However I have news for you- it is not because of your superior preparation before. Surely in reading here on the forums you have seen that everyone experience is different. You can do everything you can to make your post op easy and hope that following all the golden rules (Protein, Water, exercise, low carbs, supplements) is effortless because of what you KNOW- However, your new tiny tummy does not always know what you know. I have fibromyalgia and my body already had a history of betraying me on occasion. I hoped for the best and right now I am scrambling to figure out what I can do that works. I asked about sugar because the other options were not working. Not because I am dumb, unprepared, etc. I am FOUR days post surgery. Perhaps you have forgotten how that felt.
  18. Certainly I of all people, struggling to drink and get any Protein here on day 4, know how hard it is to go through each stage. However, one thing I noticed was the high carbs in the oatmeal , and certainly in the mashed taters. Tasty as those things are my own dr. would lecture me severely because of the carbs. I have learned from all my research that those foods come third when we eat- protein first, fruits and veggies, second, carbs third. I have been kept on Clear liquids plus protein drinks for three weeks but when I get to have full liquids and mushies, I will add unflavored Protein powder to things like cream Soups, eggs, etc. I think adding 10-15 grams to your taters would have been a great thing to do! However- I get it- you are just starting out- we are just trying to get ourselves down the road and without pain. I will not lecture you about any mistake you might make! In fact- I am so jealous!!!! ;-P Do you have a magic bullet or blender? For pureeing? That would probably be great. I am having trouble finding a Protein Drink I can tolerate and Atkins is one I will try- but I think 15 grams is pretty low. I try to get a lot more protein bang for my buck. The chocolate I found by Champion Nutrition Pro Score has 30 grams in 2 scoops - great bang for the buck! Have fun ! Onward and downward! ;-P
  19. That just may help! I am not going to push myself until I can drink more without pain. Today has been much better for fluids, and one 30 grams of Protein shake. With setting my iPhone I think I pulled myself back from the brink of dehydration though my urine is quite dark so I will be closely monitoring. As prepared and researched as I was, you don't really know how it is until you are in it- and also everyone has a different degree of difficulty during healing. WIth my fibromyalgia I should have realized I might have some problems! D'uh! And the Propel grape Water is excellent! No one knows all of that more than me! Very similar things have been posted by me to others. Here's the thing- I tried countless samples and used my two weeks of liquids to find the best Protein Shakes for me. I found five different ones that were palatable and I got some of each to have here waiting for me. And so far, four days after surgery, all of them made me vomit. I am not talking about my approach to life when I am able to eat. I plan to count carbs, and I WILL make the most of this losing phase. But have a heart girl- you are being a bit harsh when I am vomiting and fighting dehydration, still feeling pain on swallowing, and my careful research was for naught. And where is your suggestion for what I might do to solve this? RIght now I need to get through this few weeks and heal my sleeve and move forward. No need to imply I am making excuses or sabotaging. I will try a different stevia but so far it made me vomit in my tea yesterday. Yep. Fatal in large quantities. Plus once they taste even a smidgen they then crave it- lethal combo of circumstances.
  20. I will definitely try one- I did NOT like stevia used in my tea but maybe it is more artfully used in the Jay Robbs- others have mentioned them. Ye- that is another reason I hate having introduced artificial sweeteners into our home- most of them are toxic to dogs and my dog is a light in my life . Here is where I stand today- I have decided to do a balance of full sugar and artificial. Today my formerly very fave chocolate Protein Powder tasted halfway decent with decaf coffee and ice blended into it. I think I can get it down as long as it is early in the day. The Dreyer's fruit popsicles I can also handle- in fact I LOVE them! (EDY's on the East Coast). But I will also allow myself a little sugar and my focus will be protein, and fluids, at least for this three weeks.
  21. OMG this was so helpful! I swear I was so hard o myself for not being able to get Protein shakes in yesterday- I felt like a total failure. had been so carful to research and find some I loved before the surgery only to find they absolutely disgusted me after. Sigh. Today I am setting my iPhone to go off every 15 munutes and drinking 2 ounces of anything- water, warm tea, the decafcoffeee/chocolate Protein Drink that tastes way better in the morning....any liquid I can. I will just focus on liquid instead of beating myself up that the things I liked just last week I can no longer drink without gagging and vomiting. All I can say is my husband will be buff from drinking all the things I have that I can no longer tolerate!
  22. Thank you- he is a bright light for sure! Thanks for the tip about the spring water too. Today is a bit better- I am actually getting a 30g Protein shake down by setting my iPhone for every 15 minutes and using the 30ml cups they gave me at the hospital- every 15 30 ml of Protein Shake then 30 ml of water or warm tea. Someone posted elsewhere that you shouldn't worry about protein as much the first week and that took the pressure off of me for sure! Naturally I will make a video later ;-P
  23. Wow Kristy you have had an amazing recovery! Woo Hoo! I am glad one of us did!
