  1. Are you taking an acid reducer like prilosec? I believe some of what is thought to be hunger is due to acid. My doctor (and many) starts you on a PPI day one for three months. I have zero hunger.
  2. I love Jewls of June that's a great one. Hooray for you! But...I am still on all those sweet drinks for three weeks post surgery so be prepared....

And Now I Have a Surgery Date

Hooray! This makes you a Jewel of June ;-P
  4. I love reading these- especially all the DONEs. And of course many of them reminded me of other goals of mine! Today- a verrrry short term goal? To have my doctor put me on mushes or at least add cottage cheese, non thinned yogurt, and sugar free pudding to my thin liquids!

    Day 15 Post Op

Before surgery I bought that exact brand and flavor but after surgery it absolutely made me gag! SO I have half a bag here.... sigh, The one I found before that I still actually enjoy post surgery is Champion Pro Score 100 chocolate- it tastes like dutch chocolate - I get 45 grams using 3 scoops.... and then I use Chike strawberry in my afternoon shake, with milk, for another 35 so I am at 80. Then in thevening I can have Soup or cream of whet thinned with milk or something without worrying about the protein. Maybe I will give the GNC brand another try in the hopes my taste buds have settled a bit!

Low BMI and still having VSG

I mam kind of stunned that a doctor would remove 85% of the stomach of someone with 20 pounds to lose. I can't imagine that! I would wonder about a doctor like that- I mean- you can lose a lot just doing the two week liquid prep. Wow, that is really bizarre to me. I am surprised Dr. Almanze would actually do that,

    Started pureed food

Girl be careful about egg salad- my particular diet plan allows scrambled and soft boiled eggs but cautions you to wait until 8th week to have hardboiled. I realize they are all different , our doctors, but I don't want you to regret it AFTER the fact! Thanks for paving the way for Michelle and me After reading this I am not in as much of a hurry to have mushies as I was. You sound great though! I am thrilled for you. I didn't gain today but remember I did last week.
  11. Certainly after reading here it seems different to do net carbs but my nutritionist recommends it- and I will see if it works. It basically rewards you for choosing carbs like an apple, etc.I am willing to try it to see if it works for me and if not then I am off on my own - counting carbs period.I'll be reportin ;-P As for trusting the nutrition label though- if you don't trust the fiber amount why do you trust the carb amount? I sometimes wonder who monitors this stuff!

    Day 15 Post Op

I am so sorry it took me so long to chime in! I woke up really late today and was behind on my fluids all day so I wouldn't allow myself to post for a while until I got caught up! I am so very happy too! I never would hav thought 30 pounds would leave my body in a month....and though of course being on liquids I worked for it it is giving me the first hope I have had for a long time. Remember when Crosswind would post every day after she was sleeved? SHe reported crying every day too ;-P SO far I have not done that but give me time- and remember the fat cells release hormones as they burn so we could be all over the place emotionally in the next months! I will always feel a special bond with you Michelle and with Kelly -of course all our RVs but you two in particular are close to my heart and I never want to lose touch with you! As excited as I am to see my surgeon tomorrow I am also going to accept whatever he decides with out bumming out because more than anything I want a healed healthy thumby. I at least hope he adds cottage cheese and yogurt that is not thinned. That alone would help a LOT. I am so sick of the sweet stuff- though I can't moan too much as my two sweet drinks today have me at 84 grams of Protein, If you remember, I gained 2 pounds last week (which with our differing amounts of weight to lose is proportional) and then lost them slowly over the following three days. I figure that is why recording your weight once a week is better- there I had updated my slider and my fat secret profile and then had to wait to get back to it being true! With my whole world being Fluid, protein, etc. it is hard not to be scale centric, huh? I love you and will always be here for you!

    Walking

I predict you will feel much better by that appointment on Friday- Day 5 was a turnaround day for me but I did not really start walking until yesterday for real- before that maybe a block at most. Don't worry this early- just focus on healing.
  15. Are you exercising? I know that helps a lot. The other thing- when you admit you snack on candy or chips I think you have already answered your own question. I have learned a lot in my research going in to my sleeve and it is not just about calories. My surgeon really got me to understand how important it is to get lots of Protein and to count carbs. He said that you have to deprive your body of carbs to make it burn the fat. Have you counted carbs? Those chips and candy alone could be stopping you from realizing the loss you are hoping for. Most everyone I have seen do really well with the sleeve counts carbs to a varying degree. I plan to take in no more than 40-50 net carbs a day. If that doesn't work well enough, I will lower it. I am only at two weeks but I already make sure I get 80 grams of protein a day and all my Water, and a max of 60 carbs I am giving myself a little more carbs while I finish healing. After that I am determined to maximize the honeymoon period of weight loss. You have plenty of time to do that yourself!

    2 Weeks Out Today!!

I was hoping you would post! I am thrilled to hear your news about feeling so good! I think all three of us are doing famously. And it looks like you have lost tons of weight- woohoo! Oh I hope we both have good news on Wednesdy. I am soooo ready for mushies!

    Surgery Cancelled

See someone else- you should not be forced to have surgery you do not want when opinions differ For me reflux would be much preferable to the malabsorption of the bypass.

    Surgery Tomorrow

Hooray! Looking forward to seeing your journey! And I am fresh enough from the surgery to help if you have problems or questions...
  19. I think you are doing the right thing starting now and her is why. I cheated twice in my two weeks- once at a wedding we photographed because I just couldn't work 10 hours without eating- I had some chicken and vegetable only. I also had a piece of pizza three days before my surgery- I had gone to my GP to possible have mu surgery canceled due to a cold and my husband, knowing how I'd be feeling if it was canceled, got me a small pizza with my favorite toppings a- then my surgery was not canceled. I ate the toppings off of a piece and felt fine about it. I followed the diet carefully every other day- nothing but liquids, 70 grams protein a day- lots of water- and lose 18 pounds pre surgery. My doctor specifically said that my liver looked great. So, shocking as this advice will seem- I think you can pick one day on your vacation and have a nice dinner. Just one- and not if it will throw you off the plan completely. STarting early will give you even more assurance. And vacation next year will be wonderful!
  20. Today- day seven for me! I cant believe it is my one week surgeversary! I was a bit concerned because I woke up feeling weak as a kitten and it did not improve after my first Protein shake but my doctor (my surgeon's office said to call my GP since my doc was in surgery today) said your energy can vary drimatically fter surgery and to watch for a few days and get back to her- also increase fluids (jeeze- I was so proud to have gotten all 64 plus ounces the last two days!) Of course my hope for her moving me from clears and Protein drinks to fulls liquids was absurd since it is of course my surgeon who will do that. I can't help wondering if the two weeks of this before and now another week hasn't just worn me down- we'll see. I'll come back and talk more about day six but I want a place for you all to gather your stories so we can check up on each other! I denied myself the forum to get some work done today- sorry it was late. I'll do it earlier tomorrow!
  21. You know, even though I am postop- I am still sick of the pre-op diet! It is harder than being post-op so just know that. Even though I am going on my fifth week of thin liquids including that 2 weeks, I now have no hunger and that is a BIG difference. Know that you are really helping yourself get ready for this new phase in your life, that it really will help your liver be ready for surgery, and that aside from the first few days of post surgery recovery when you may have trouble getting anything down- it really will never be this bad again. You will be able to eat anything you want again in the future and you will finally lose the weight. Good luck to everyone on the 27th! I will be your den Mom , being 18 days ahead of you.

    I'm Sleeved!!!!

Call your doctor- that is a lot - too much liquid out.I had it every day for about 10 days but only onece a day and now it has quited down. Increase your Water as much as you can lest you end up back in ER for fluids. Are you on full liquids? Could it be the dairy products? I would definitely let your doctor know.

fever on the day of surgery

I had a cold the week before my surgery and my surgeon explained that I would not want to be in recovery in less than optimum shape! I understood what he meant and luckily got over my cold but if I had been sick still would have postponed. Glad yours went away! You will need all your energy for healing. Use a sinus wash today too to be sure.
  24. After a week that I can describe as ranging from NO energy to teensy bit of energy- my nutritionist prescribed plan of adding a few carbs every day seems to have worked. I am not talking out of control here- I am talking about 40-50 carbs a day instead of the 3-4 I was getting. It even took a few days! Today at last I felt almost like myself and went on the longest walk I have managed yet. I think we get so gung ho out of the starting gate- thinking of carbs as bad and thinking so much about the protein- we forget we are healing from major surgery and need to nourish ourselves. I also was getting about 400 calories a day and had not only stalled but GAINED 2 pounds. Now I am up to about 600-700, 40-60 carbs, and 80-90 grams of Protein. My main problem is forgetting to drink so I still set my phone for every 15 minutes after skipping it for a couple of days and finding myself at the end of the day and behind on my Water. This is how my day goes now In the morning my husband brings in a 32 ounce bottle of water , a 12 ounce cup of decaf tea, and sometimes a 16 ounce bottle of propel that I keep sipping at and working at all day with a goal of all of them being gone. I also start my first Protein Drink - 3 scoops of champion pro score, 8 ounces of decaf and four ice cubes bended. Like it a lot and can see keeping that in the morning for a while to come. 8 ounces of Fluid AND 45 grams of protein. Then comes my second protein drink of the day - 1 scoop chike strawberry , one cup milk, 1/4 cup greek yogurt (sometimes 2 chike and 1/2 milk 1/2 cup water) for 30-35 grams SO I am already at 75-80 grams and can then just add 1/4 cup greek yogurt to a Soup thinned with milk, or just have thinned cream of wheat with milk to bring me up to 90 grams. And sip sip sip and walk walk walk. And that is me at basically two weeks. I have to add I am bored out of my mind of liquids. I want to chew. I am hoping my doctor on Wednesday at my two weeks post op puts me on mushies, but I have a feeling it might be full liquids adding only cottage cheese. Oh well. You can chew that at least! Oh and I have lost 27 pounds since my preop started- 9 since surgery II hope this helps anyone as the head into surgery and beyond...

    13 days- energy up!

Isn't it amazing? I can't quite really wrap my mind around it- it hardly seems real as it happened so fast. This has never happened before for me. Hopefully some of my tips for Protein helped you! I think it is important because if you give your body protein it will turn to the fat cells for burning instead of muscle.
