  1. No pre-op diet here either, consider yourself lucky My post-op instructions are different, though.

    Still not Hungry

I was banded 2 days before you, and today is the first time I've been hungry- 1 week out from surgery. So Ill say just enjoy it while you can, make sure you get down your Water and your Protein, and if you're not getting them down, call your surgeon- you don't want to end up back in the hospital for IVs! Collister- you didn't know you could have protein shakes? Seems to me like they're the only thing that remains constant from doctor to doctor- everyone says to make sure to get enough protein
  3. I don't know if this will help or aggravate you, but my doctor didn't have any sort of pre-surgery diet. I was told not to gain any weight, but that was it. The reason I'm saying this is I've been on Clear liquids for the past week and I've really done fine, I haven't messed up even once. So it wasn't like I was used to clear liquids before I had the surgery, kwim? In general after surgery you don't WANT to eat because your innards are so sore and swollen.

    all the different instrux

I have the same post-op directions as you- clear liquids for 7 days, full liquids 7 days, mushy foods 7 days. I am fine with being overly cautious with my diet- better safe than sorry IMO. Call your doctor if you're worried!
  5. Yep, you'll need to take small sips and space them out, it's because your stomach is irritated and swollen. Make sure you're drinking enough liquids every day!
  6. Yep, the runs are totally normal- don't take anything for them! I agree with diaper cream, or if you have Aquaphor, that works well too.
  7. I'm still feeling weak, and sore. I've heard most people only take the rX painkillers for a couple of days after surgery, but I'm still taking them because my incisions hurt. When my surgeon went in to place the band, he found (and fixed) a hiaital hernia-- is this why I'm still having a lot of pain? I know that being on liquids will keep me feeling weak for a while, but I was hoping to feel a little more human by now than I do Also I ended up with a rash all over my torso that my doctor thinks is an allergic reaction to something used in the surgery, so he told me to take Benadryl-- let me tell you, Benadryl and Percoset KNOCKS YOU FLAT! Also, I burp after every. single. swallow. Every one, doesn't matter how big or small the swallow was! Is this going to go away?
  8. Thank you so much everyone!! I've realized that first thing in the morning is the most painful for me- I haven't been taking meds in the middle of the night so when I wake up I may have laid on my incisions, and man, it HURTS to get out of bed and down to where the drugs are I'm having 15 people over today who don't know about the surgery (well, I finally told them I had surgery, but not what kind) so it'll be interesting to watch them all eat junk food and pizza while I sip my broth Saundra- it does seem that a lot of people have a hard time getting down cold things, but it's much easier to swallow warm/hot things. Seems like that's the case for you too! My 6 year old told me yesterday that I look smaller. I thought that was really sweet, considering there's no way I do- she must have said it to be nice, and it WAS nice.
  9. I stayed overnight, but my surgery was around 3:00 on Tueday and I was released by noon on Wednesday.
  10. Lots to think about, thanks all! Today has been better- only took the percoset twice so far instead of every 4 hours on the dot. I keep on telling my husband how WEIRD it is to not be hungry Not that I'm complaining!

    Post Op Diet question

My plan says not to separate drinks and "meals" (clear broth, jell-o) during the clear liquids stage. HTH!
  12. Ooh, what kind of shot? My surgeon requires one overnight in the hospital but I only had 2 shots- both were bloodthinners.

    6 months of supervised diet?

I also have Highmark BCBS and had to do 6 months. It included checking in once a month with my nutritionist and keeping 6 months of food logs that were submitted with all of my paperwork. Once it was submitted I was approved within 48 hours and I had my surgery 2 weeks later.

    Surgeon setting goal weight??

My surgeon and nutritionist didn't say anything about a goal weight for me either. My nutritionist asked what weight *I* wanted to get to, then said that everyone is different and that my goals of 1) 199 and then 2) 180 or so, not skinny, were just fine. I've done some online tests that say at my height I should weigh around 147 and I can't even IMAGINE what that would look or feel like. I've never been skinny!

    Banded April 12

I was banded on the 12th too! My incisions are a little sore, and it hurts to burp (I also had a HH repair) but the worst part is the gas for me, too. I feel it mostly in my back and shoulders. Also, I've got some weird rash on my torso, I'm thinking maybe an allergic reaction to the tape they used to keep the gauze on? I'm heading in to see the P.A. at 10 so she can take a quick look. I can't imagine moving up in food stages so fast! I'm on Clear liquids for a week, then whole liquids for a week, then I get cleared to have mushy food.
