My boyfriend loves my lap band (he gets whatever I dont eat!)
Rachel412 replied to marfar7's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think my husband is the opposite- he sees how little I'm eating and he eats less, too, to try to be healthier. And it figures because he lost like 12 pounds and everyone is fawning over him, while most people haven't said a word about my loss. Jerk. -
Please tell me it gets better!
Rachel412 replied to jensjourney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes it's all normal- but that's not a lot of comfort when you're miserable! When I was on liquids I had miso soup- it was flavorful and HEAVEN after all of the sweet liquids I'd been having, Really, you can take any soup and throw it in the blender and blend it up so it doesn't have lumps- the texture might feel odd but it'll still taste good. -
No less than 45 days, or no more than?

I try to get around 1200 but my nutritionist won't talk about calories, only protein, water, and portion size.

Trying to figure out if I'm too tight
Rachel412 replied to Woodslass's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
In my opinion, yeah, I'd say you're too tight. Even a tiny unfill can make a difference. -
You'll be fine! I got a fill the week before our week-long cruise. The nice thing is that since all the food is already paid for, you have no reason to feel guilty if you only eat a few bites of whatever you're having. There were always plenty of options for me- the only thing I missed having was greek yogurt.

Sugar & Carbs Question
Rachel412 replied to Lakeshia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know anything about the sugar questions, but I can tell you I aim to keep my carbs under 100g per day. Closer to 50. the better for me. If I have too many then I crave more, and the cycle continues... -
I want something to force me to loose weight?
Rachel412 replied to LisaR22's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
No no no no, do NOT get banded. the band won't force you to do anything. It works best for people who are ready to make a whole life change. it doesn't make me sick ever, I can eat ANYTHING I want, good or bad. Look into the malabsorptive (sp?) surgeries instead of the restrictive ones. Those make you lose weight a lot easier, and they also often make you ill ("dumping") if you eat the wrong thing. the band is really a diet with some extra help. Clearly this is NOT what you want, and it's not going to help you at all. -
Are your fills done under Fluoroscopy, or Standard way?
Rachel412 replied to 54Shirley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Standard here. I can also get fills every 2 weeks. Works fine for me! -
that's funny

Just a little curious...
Rachel412 replied to MustangMama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Seems I've heard more about it lately, but at the time I had my band put in, my doctor wasn't offering it. I'm OK with that though... it feels a bit too new for me. -
Freedom Challenge
Rachel412 replied to size10again's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Happy birthday and happy ukelele hunt, Larry! I'm down to 232.5, which gives me a 3.5 pound loss this week and puts me .5 pounds from my goal. Also I've done 3 days of Water aerobics this week and I'm hoping to head to the gym early tomorrow morning. -
Congratulations! Here's to many more sets of 30 lost...

For the first time I can remember, my shoulders are just as tan as my forearms. I know I have batwings but I don't care if people see them. Yay summer!

I think you have to take the metal off because if they need to put you through an MRI machine it'll burn your skin where the metal is. or something like that. years of watching ER and House have done me no good I bet a plastic retainer is fine though. I had to take my tiny captive bead hoop in my rook out, and I lost the bead. The last 3 months I've gone beadless, just hoping the hoop doesn't fall out.

I'm so glad that my doctor fills every 2 weeks if needed. I feel like I'm close, but not there yet... and I REALLY want to be there! My doc says that they like patients to be losing 2-3 pounds a week when they've had surgery recently. I've lost 3 pounds in the last 2 weeks, so 1.5 a week... Also, I'm hoping they can take a look at my port. The whole area has been painful lately and I'm starting to worry that I may have flipped it. Ugh, I hope not!

Eating like it's going out of style
Rachel412 replied to aliciab's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did that too. Just try to control it as much as you can, so that the post-op diet won't be a total shock to your system. -
So let's talk about our lap band surgeons for a second...
Rachel412 replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
well... I'd say your surgeon is worse than usual and your friends' surgeon is better than usual my surgeon is only in the office one day a week, because he splits his time between two surgical practices. So in my area, he does surgery on Tuesdays and is in the office Thursdays. If I want HIM to do my fill it has to be Thursday, but the practice (there are 2 other surgeons there) has a PA who also does fills, and I can see her for a fill any day but Friday- they don't fill on Friday to lessen the possibility that you'll end up in the ER, too tight, on the weekends. No fills under fluoro for me either. If I have a problem I'm instructed to call and talk to the PA. Now that the surgery is over I don't have much contact with my surgeon... he did one of my post-op checks so far and he'll do the 6 month one too, but I'm pretty much under the care of the PA and the nutritionist now, not really under his care. I don't have his cell phone number but again, I don't know how much of this is due to him working in 2 offices that are pretty far apart. And his staff is wonderful, and very well trained, and I certainly feel in good hands with them. -
Day 3 post op.... Sick
Rachel412 replied to Jsrodgers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You probably don't want to hear this but you NEED to get in the right amount of liquids, or you'll end up back at the hospital. Are you sick, like, nauseous? If so call your surgeon's office and ask for a rx for anti-nausea meds. If you're sick like the runs, well, you need to drink even more then to keep your body hydrated (the runs are normal post surgery too, since all you're having is liquids). I'm sorry! -
What are good protein shakes?
Rachel412 replied to jeeptrk03's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Seems like everyone has a different favorite. My fave is this one:http://www.amazon.com/Optimum-Nutrition-Standard-Double-Chocolate/dp/B000QSNYGI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1311262781&sr=8-1 24 g Protein (more when made with milk) 3g carbs n funky after taste, blends well with a blender, no grittiness -
Hiya! Just wanted to lend some support... I have PCOS and I'm banded. I haven't been TTC so I can't comment on how that's changed, but I HAVE been losing steadily. I'm not on Metformin or any other meds for PCOS. My period is showing up more often and becoming much more regular, so that tells me that my body is likely ovulating- which didn't happen before. Women with PCOS definitely can have success with the band- just remember that you still do most of the work yourself. I'd say at this point my loss is 95% me, 5% my band- but i'll take it!
-
wait... so after all that all they said was to come back in a month? no x-ray to see if your port flipped?
-
How do you know what the lap band can handle?
Rachel412 replied to amjcal's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I haven't encountered anything I can't eat yet. Just FYI- not everyone has "problem" foods, but it does seem like most people do. The only thing I really had any sort of problem with was beef jerky once...
