    Sleeved May 2nd

Saw my surgeon yesterday and am down to 351, which is 39 lbs from my highest weight ever. I can now sleep in my bed in almost any position with no problems. I get to move to purees on Tuesday but I have had a scrambled egg already and some mashed potatoes and they seemed fine. Was hoping I wouldn't have to experiment with the purees while in work. I dread something not agreeing with me and coming back up while I am there. Can't wait to be done giving myself the blood thinner injections each day, only 5 more days to go. Overall I feel normal, no discomfort or pain, only a little weak sometimes or wobbly as it was put before. I can definitely feel a difference in my body with just this little bit of weight lost. My grandmother who does not know I had the surgery told my mother on the phone the other day she thought I looked like I was losing weight. I don't see her every day so it was interesting that someone actually noticed that wasn't aware of the situation. I am back to work on Monday. I am really glad I took the two full weeks off, I had plenty of time to rest and relax and will go back feeling pretty normal.
  3. My paperwork was submitted to insurance on a Friday and I had an approval the following Friday.

    Bariatric Advantage Meal Replacement

I have not been drinking the Bariatric Advantage stuff since before surgery. It was way to thick all the time and there is no way I would get it all down now. I have been sticking with the nectars and unjury Proteins. My doctors office was not opposed to me using other brands as long as it was reputable. Oh and I bought my SF Torani syrups from Amazon.

    Lapband 1st

There are a ton of people on the boards here who had the band first and then revised to the sleeve. As linked above there is an entire section on these forums just for that. Take a look there. Everyone here is always willing to answer any questions you have.
  6. It is going well thanks =) I am 10 days post-op and I feell pretty normal with the exception of the pain I am getting, it is muscular in nature at one of the incision sites. Only happens when I turn or twist a certain way. Have my post-op appointment with the surgeon tomorrow.

  7. I keep going through this roller coaster. A couple years ago I went through the process and had a surgery date to get a band and I chickened out two weeks prior. I recently found out about the sleeve and started the process all over again. The sleeve was not covered by my insurance but my doctor was going to try to see if we could get approval anyway since bypass is not a good idea with my family history of chrohn's disease. I also have an aunt who had a botched up bypass years ago and she is skinny but miserable, in pain and can hardly eat. I've canceled my last two nutrition visits at his office because I haven't lost any weight. He wanted me drinking Protein shakes twice a day and I just keep sabotaging myself. The doctors office left me a message a couple days ago and said that my insurance now covers the sleeve. This is great news because I definitely don't want anything else but I am scared to death to go through with it. I need to lose about 250 pounds overall. if I was told I had to have the surgery I would do it no problem, but because it is elective, I am deathly afraid of doing it and causing myself more health issues than what I already have. Besides being morbidly obese, I have severe sleep apnea and hypothyroidism and a general ache in my body all the time, so as I get bigger my mobility is going out the window. I don't have diabetes, high blood pressure or heart disease thank God. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions that has been through this? Perhaps someone else has felt the same way along their journey. I have lost about 15 years to obesity and I am not getting any younger. I used to be a very fit and active person at one time. Thanks for any insight you can give. HMW
  8. I told my husband, kids and certain other immediate family members and a few select co-workers, 4 of them actually. two are good friends and the other two I just felt comfortable letting them know. So far i don't regret telling any of them, they have all been extremely supportive, even sending me e-mails each day checking in on me. I go back to work on Monday and I may decide to eventually tell others but that will be up to me, I don't want it broadcast around the building. I don't need others judging me.

    6 days after surgery

I was sleeved on the 3rd and I had Cream of Mushroom soup today and it was great. Also, have cream of chicken and golden mushroom soups in the cupboard for the next few days. What about yogurt? Last week I was eating a lot of chicken broth and before surgery I had reserved some liquid from a previous batch of my beef stew and it was great to have post-op, just liquid, no pieces.

    Driving

Not sure, I mean my caloric intake is severely reduced from even the pre-op diet and I am getting in the amount of Protein the doctor specified. So far today I have had 100cal yogurt, 180cal Protein shake and 100cal cream of mushroom Soup with only dinner left in the day and more protein. I've had 36g of protein so far today. I might get to 600 calories today. I am sure it is a little bit of everything, our bodies have been though a trauma and now we aren't feeding it like it was used to being fed.

    Driving

Glad I am not the only one. I get those "wobbles" too. Doing the dishes last night totally messed me up. I did drive for the first time on Mother's day and was fine, my surgery was last Tuesday. I also haven't taken any pain killers since the day I left the hospital. The littlest things mess my head up, just gotta take it slow.

    Vitamins????

For immediately after surgery the doctor has me taking The bariatric advantage crystals that you mix in with 8oz water. It covers everything you need so you don't have to take multiple supplements right away. You can buy them online. My surgeon sells it in his office.

    Mini-Goals, anyone????

My first goal is to get to twoterville, 299 which I weighed 7 years ago the year my dad passed, I was doing atkins at the time. I gained 90 pounds in 7 years geesh. Then I have a small goal after that and it is to weigh less than my husband and never pass him again. I think he is about 280, so thats a small second goal. Then on to 250 which is significant to when I met my husband 11 years ago and then Onederland which brings me back 18 years to when I got pregnant with my oldest. I know my "normal" weight is supposed to be like 125 at my height however getting to Onderland will be awesome and anything after that is just bonus IMO.
  16. Sending good vibes your way Meggie. Hoping that your surgery goes as smoothly as mine went last week. Our thoughts are with you.

    About to leave

Best wishes for an easy recovery to all the sleevers being done today.
  18. I am 6 days post-op and started my full liquid stage today. For me the broth, while boring, was really the only hot thing I was drinking during that whole clear liquid phase so I was looking forward to it. I only drank it once a day so I didn't get tired of it. The rest of the day was filled with Protein drinks that took hours to consume, SF Popsicles and Water. I was so happy to finally be able to have a yogurt but I am sure this time next week I probably won't want to see any more yogurt either. I have only lost about 6 lbs, it takes time. Your body is recovering from major surgery. It will start coming off.

    Trying to decide

Congratulations on your choice to get the sleeve. I just had mine last Tuesday and am in the full liquid stage of my post-op diet. Hunger is not a problem post-sleeve for me so far, your main goal is Protein and staying hydrated. I gave up all soda and caffeinated products several weeks before my pre-op liquid diet. It was extremely helpful not to have caffeine withdrawal during that pre-op liquid phase. I was never much of a Water drinker but it is definitely my friend now, along with 0 cal lifewater and decaf tea. Good Luck on your journey and everyone here is always willing to help with any questions you have. This forum has a wealth of information.
  20. I was sleeved on Tuesday and I am still way to sore to sleep on my side or stomach right now. I tried crawling into my bed last night and then had trouble getting back out so I slept in a recliner and will do so again tonight until some of this soreness goes away.

    Sleeved May 2nd

The alpine punch and orange pineapple banana isopure haven't been that bad. I took all of what I didn't drink at the hospital home with me. That blue colored raspberry one I dumped down the sink. I figure I might as well use them up then I can move on to my nectars that I have here which I like much better. I was not able to sleep in my bed last night, I got into it and I can't sleep on my back, to flat, I couldn't prop myself up and my side and stomach sleeping are a definite no go. It was painful to move around so I ended up out on the couch in one of the recliners. It was the most sleep I've had all week.

    Sleeved May 2nd

Thanks for all the well wishes from everyone! I am home today, doing pretty well I think, pain isn't too bad I didn't take any narcotics while in the hospital except the percocet that one time. They did send me home with a Loritab script and I took it once this afternoon, no problems keeping that down and it basically put me to sleep for a little while. Last night I had terrible knots in my throat/stomach every time I sipped anything it would feel like it was stuck, then I could feel it move, then another know again and so on. This morning i felt good and was able to finally pass gas, TMI I know but they wouldnt' let me leave until I did that. I have some knots again tonight. I drank a whole Isopure today with quite a bit of Water and a couple ounces of chicken broth. I definitely don't want to get dehydrated. My Aunt and Uncle came to see me last night at the hospital, so nice of them and they gave me a gift card to Kohl's so I can go shopping once I lose some of the weight., they are awesome people. In addition to the Loritab script I was sent home with an Aciphex script which is not covered by my insurance so they told me just to get the prevacid instead. A Lovenox script I have to inject myself with that every day, piece of cake actually and I was worried about doing it and a Vitamin D script which is once a week for 4 weeks 50,000 units. Did anyone else get this? I wasn't aware they gave this and why. Tuesday I can move to full liquids and looking forward to it already. Then next Friday, the 13th I have an appt with my surgeon and he will let me know when I can progress to purees.
  24. It has been an interesting journey leading up to this point. I am still hoping that my surgery won't be canceled. I am trying not to worry about it since there is nothing I can do to change whatever the outcome is at this point. I keep thinking I will wake up and find out that nothing was done. I have lost about 17lbs on the pre-op diet but 13 of that was over 3 weeks ago, these last 3 weeks have been slow going. I have only lost an additional 4 lbs so I think the surgeon is not going to be happy at all. I pray for a smooth journey tomorrow with no complications and that I can finally join the other side equipped with my sleeve. I keep trying not to think about it but I am so scared of leaving my husband and kids all alone if something goes wrong. I haven't been outwardly emotional about it until now i just kept pushing the thoughts out of my mind. Trying to think Happy thoughts of riding roller coasters, horseback riding and dancing. Fitting in my husbands car properly and one day maybe being able to drive it (mini cooper), Sitting in an airplane, movie seats and a booth in a restaurant (always sit at a table) and fitting properly. Getting rid of my CPAP machine. Wearing jeans that actually button and zipper (no elastic waist), wearing cute tops that don't resemble a parachute. I could probably go on forever. Please send Happy Thoughts my way!!

    So Emotional!!!!

I've been pretty emotional tonight as well. Same thing basically. My 18yo son overheard me talking to my husband about how I was worried something terrible would happen. Later when he was downstairs, he gave me a big hug and said he heard me talking and that I was going to be just fine. I have to believe it is all going to work out and next week we will all be chatting about what liquid or mushie item we have been eating.
