    How in the Heck????

I'm 2 months out and rarely am I able to eat 2oz of dense Protein. It's really hard to completely grasp the concept until you've been sleeved & experience it for yourself. The best part is, not only will 2oz fill you up, but it also satisfies you!
  4. I heard it can make you go blind...

    Stick a fork in me....

The first 24 hours were the most uncomfortable for me but each day saw improvement. Get plenty of rest while your body is still in shock & by day 3 you'll feel much better! Congrats again!

    Howdy I am Barb

Congrats on losing 37lbs!!! It takes hard work, determination & disclipline to lose weight and you should be very proud of what you've accomplished so far. The lessons learned IRT eating the proper foods will serve you well after you've been sleeved. In my final attempt to lose weight 'the old fashioned way' I saw a nutritionist for 8 months and really learned for the first time in my life how eating the proper foods really affects our health & well being. I ended up losing 60lbs with her, but gained back 40lbs when my lifelong food addiction kicked in. That wad in 2009/2010 and really forced me to face the fact that to lose the weight permanently, I was going to have to find a permanent solution. Today is my 2 month surgiversary and I LOVE my sleeve! I had my surgery in Mexico for a myriad of reasons and experienced zero complications. I also had a medium sized hiatal hernia repaired at the time which cause a tiny bit of extra pain and difficulty in swallowing for the first week or so, but now, 2 months out, I feel great! It's said on these boards over and over, but it's totally true that the bariatric surgeon only operates on your stomach and NOT your head. After you've been given this miraculous tool, it's completely up to you to use it properly and apply the lessons you're learning during your supervised diet. Now that I'm cleared for all foods, junk like chips and Cookies sometimes call to me. I'm not hungry in the slightest, but I WANT to eat them, and derive the pleasure of tasting yummy things. Even with a small tummy, it still takes willpower to resist the temptation. The positive of having a sleeve is that even if I do succumb to the craving, I can't binge the way I used to so it limits the damage. I had to face the fact that despite my denials, I was indeed a major food addict and emotional eater. I hit that wall about a week after surgery and experienced some serious regret and food mourning but then I put my big girl panties on, sucked it up and haven't looked back. I took my 10 year old daughter to IHOP just this morning and she asked me if I missed eating like I used to. The obese me would have ordered stuffed french toast with whipped cream and strawberry topping, bacon, hashbrowns, 2 eggs and drank several cups of coffee with lots of cream. The new & improved me was honestly satisfied with 2 slices of bacon & half a slice of regular french toast. I sometimes miss the taste of all the other stuff, but it's not a major issue or something I dwell on. I feel so free from the chains of hunger and craving and I wouldn't change it for the world. Good luck on the rest of your pre-op journey!
  7. Congrats! I hope you have a fast and easy recovery!
  8. Woo hoo! Good luck & hope you have an easy & fast recovery!
  9. We're avid tent campers and my first trip out was around 2 weeks post-surgery with my son's Cub Scout den. I felt totally fine, just be sure to avoid heavy lifting. We've been on 3 family camping trips since then, including a week long stay last week and I just returned from taking my Girl Scout troop out this weekend. If you're already used to the routines of setting up camp you should be fine.

    199!

8 weeks ago today I was sitting in the hospital room awaiting my turn in the OR. My normal weigh in day is Monday, but just for kicks I hopped on to the scale and was greeted by a big old number 1 as the first of 3 digits on the scale readout! Woot! I haven't been below 200 since before I got pregnant with my son who's turning 8 on the 22nd of this month & it feels so good!!! That's a total of 36lbs lost since surgery, 41lbs lost since the first of March and 61lbs down from my highest recorded weight ever. I looooooove my sleeve!

    Do you still get hungry?

I'm just over 7 weeks out & started feeling very mild hunger pangs this past 2 weeks. I often forget to eat and though I feel the familiar rumble & grumble, it's not as intense as pre-surgery nor do I feel out of control with hunger. So far it's been easily managed and I can usually ignore it or drink water to make it go away. If I do indulge with not so great food choices, I can no longer binge as I did before since I get really full on 2oz of solid food.

    Couch Potato to 5K

I completed the C25K program last year and it was great! Just waiting now to be 3 months out when I'll be cleared to start up again. I used the C25K app (the original program!) which allows you to select your own playlist, set notifications and can track your course with GPS. If you search the App Store, it's listed under C25K (Couch to 5K) and is produced by Bluefin Software, LLC. Running is such great exercise! My weight is just now back down to where it was this time last year when I lost 60lbs thru diet & exercise. There's a HUGE difference in how the weight has come off after the VSG and I attribute it to the lack of running. Last year my thighs and butt were so much thinner and tighter because I was running 3x/week. I currently do Zumba 3x/week, Water aerobics 2x/week and strength train 2x/week but it just isn't the same. One suggestion to anyone just starting out - go to a local running store and have them fit you for proper running shoes. They can be pricey, but so worth it in the long run.

    Self Pay in TN? Costs?

How funny - you're not the first person to tell me this very thing today! LOL!

    April Update from everyone

It might be helpful to also include your weight at time of surgery. Those with more to lose tend to shed weight faster initially... Surgery on 4/15/11 Surgery weight - 235 Current Weight - 204 Lost 31lbs in 6 weeks, 4 days. I lost a huge amount the first 3 weeks but it's slowed to 1 to 2lbs a week these last three. I started exercising 2 weeks ago (cardio 5x/week + strength training 2x/week) so I'm just waiting for my body to adjust.

    Self Pay in TN? Costs?

You got a small snippet of my attention due to your butting into a thread concerning self-pay costs in Tennessee twice when you're located in Dallas and because you chose to single my post out when several others mentioned Aceves and his superior experience in VSG. I give gnats about the same amount of swattage, too. Have a wonderful night!

    In Mexicali!

Again, I would *LOVE* to see where anyone said this story shouldn't be shared and discussed. My only concern is that it is scaring pre-ops who do not share Renee's medical dx and since that played a HUGE part in her experience, I think it needs to be kept in mind. Most people don't understand how one's body changes while on narcotics for daily pain management and it's a game changer when it comes to any surgery, let alone an elective one. Personally, I think Dr. Aceves & his staff should have been more prepared if presented with her complete drug history and certainly more understanding of fibro/cfs.

Turkey Neck with early weight loss

Can't wait to see pics, Oregondaisy! I've got another 54lbs to go but already bothered by the waddle. And the tummy, and the droopy boobs.....

    In Mexicali!

I haven't seen anyone say you shouldn't share your experience here. But it does need to be made clear that Renee is a special case. There are people already scheduled to go to Mexico that are now thinking about canceling their surgery because of this thread and IMO that's a HUGE disservice when MX might be their only option. Comments that one was lied to by someone they trusted need to be explained and put into context. Also, future fibro/cfs patients on narcotics for pain management need to be sure they consult with their own pain docs and get them in the loop as much as possible to eliminate any further suffering, no matter what doc is chosen.
