  1. I haven't seen him yet. We're still waiting for the fluoroscope to be repaired. He needs it to look at my throat. Barbara now has me set up for the July fill trip. Hopefully, it'll be fixed by then. Meanwhile, I've lost 57 pounds. That's a half pound short of halfway there for me.

    Richard,

What did Dr. Rod suggest you do about this?

  2. The surgeon still hasn't seen me, but he believes this is a form of esophageal motility disorder caused by irritation from over-flilling the pouch (eating too much for a bandster). I think it may have occurred when I was still learning portioning.

Actually, I'm being too hard on myself. There are a number of reasons for motility, and I have been relatively careful about the amount of food I eat.

  4. Just to keep you all informed, I didn't go to see the doctor for my fill because his fluoroscope broke. We'll be rescheduling. My family doctor didn't know much about it. I'm anxious, though. Half the time, it feels like someone has their finger on my Adam's apple.

  5. Denton Area Bandsters will meet for their monthly dinner this Thursday, April 5 (always the first Thursday) at Jason's Deli in Denton from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Jason's is across from the mall on the northeast corner of I-35e and Loop 288. Address is 2219 S. Loop 288. Spouses and friends from anywhere are welcome. Those who have been banded or are considering it can benefit greatly from these meetings. I hope to see all of you there.

We'll be there again Thursday, June 7. :clap2:

  6. I'm still having the problem. I'll be going to my family doctor next week for other things and will ask him about it. But he doesn't do banding, and he may not know anything about it. However, I'm going to my surgeon for a fill next weekend. I'll let you know what he says when I get back.

  7. A friend of mine went to New Dimensions here in San Antonio... medical information and she had the bypass done by the doctors there in Feb... When I checked it out they do the lap-band... I'm just starting on the lap-band road on May 26th with my first seminar... I checked the doctors out and they are highly rated... Hope that helps

Yes, but do they do fills for people banded in Mexico? Do the use fluoro? Do they do the standing method? So many questions! :)

  8. If I lived in San Antonio, I would drive to Acuna (3 hours) or go on one of the "fill trips" with my doc's assistant Barbara, and have Dr. Jose Rodriguez fill me. I've returned one time to him and was very pleased with the price (I think it's 100 including the fluro) and his method. I live too far away or would have gone back to him for my other fills, as well. Some from my area (Dallas/Fort Worth) are going to him in June on one of the "fill trips". You can also shop in Mexico while you are there. You can contact Barbara at JoseBand

Right on! For $130, you can get chauffer driven to the appointment by someone who is extremely knowledgeable of banding, join with other bandsters and get some shopping done, not to mention the best fill around, with fluoro and using the standing method. I wish I lived in S.A.!

  11. Joan,

Do you realize how much that sounded like you are the daughter talking about your mother? :rolleyes

    Well Guys,

I'm not going to make any promises, but I do hope to attend the next meeting. The real reason I wasn't at the April meeting is because my daughter doesn't understand why I would want to go since I can't be banded for a year. I told her lots of people have to wait that long or longer, but she didn't want to go. So, I didn't come to avoid an argument with her. She was sitting there watching me write my last post, so I again didn't want to argue with her and avoided the real reason I wasn't coming.

  13. I live in Coppell (banded June 2005) and my daughter lives in Corinth (also banded in June 2005. She had a slippage and is unbanded right now, but hpefully she will be back among the banded in April and we would like to attend a luncheon or dinner closer than Dallas or Plano sometimes. Please keep me on your notice list.

    Dixie

Would that be unbanded or disbanded? :welldoneclap:

  14. I've been thinking that it would be good to start a campaign to require insurance companies to pay for banding. After all, we're talking about one of the leading killers in America. There's a way to do something about it, but many insurance companies won't do it. It shouldn't make rates go up because the banding will save other, much higher expenses like heart surgery. Perhaps a letter-writing campaign and a petition would get it started and media coverage would keep it rolling. Any thoughts?

  15. Before I got my first fill, sometimes in the morning, I would feel the feeling you get when you take medicine and it "doesn't go down," like a lump in my throat. (That description is not necessarily a sensation felt by bandsters only, but I never had it before I was banded unless I had swallowed something that just didn't seem to go all the way down at first.) Don't misunderstand, I'm not saying I get the feeling when I take medicine. As I said, I felt it in the mornings, like before I even got out of bed. But since my first fill, I have the feeling pretty much all the time. It doesn't matter if I have eaten. I even had it when I was doing the liquid diet, after the fill. This isn't the bad feeling when you eat too fast. It's just a mild sensation, not painful, but bothersome. Anyone else have that? Do you know what it is?

  16. Sorry y'all missed the Denton Bandsters meeting. We had 88 people attend. There was a stripper who came out of a cake (sugar-free of course...the cake I mean) and Eddie Murphy showed up in a fat suit that we all set ablaze. Next month, we will once again be at Jason's Deli on the first Thursday of the month, that is, if the manager drops his lawsuit.

  17. Hi All,

Add me to your list of happy North Texans!:)

I'm Cindi, from Garland, Northeast "suburb" of Big D. I had my surgery at SCOR by Dr. Benavides (he's AMAZING) on January 19th, 2007. I have the big #11 band, and have had 1 fill so far. Doing OK, am hungry and dieting, going for fill in about 1.5 weeks. Love this LBT, glad to know there are lots of us out there!

    Keep it up, love!

Cindi, My gosh! You got banded eleven days after I did and you've already had one fill, and you're going for your second in a week and a half? I was banded on January 8, and I get my first fill on March 10 (in a week and a half. I was told to wait and let my stomach heal first. I can't complain about the weight loss. I've lost 27 lbs. so far. I've heard nothing but good about Dr. B, so I can't argue with him, but it just seems like that's sort of fast.

  18. Denton, Texas bandsters will meet for the second monthly dinner at Jason's Deli this Thursday, March 1, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Jason's is in the shopping center, across from the mall, on the northeast corner of Loop 288 and I-35e. Spouses and friends are welcome as well as those who are not banded but curious or planning to. Last month, we had a great time. Hope to see you there!
